A sin

Work Text:

Algy sat and stared out of his window longingly as rain pored down into his big garden because he is very rich

Him and Jake hadn’t been speaking for almost 4 weeks now, and ally was beginning to worry he hated him since moving to day school.

Before that they had been very good friends and hung out often, even to the point of making Liam jealous, but that was all over now.

Suddenly the door bell rang

Who could it be? He wasn’t expecting anyone today.

He tentatively walked up to the grand front door

He opened it to reveal a rain drenched Jake, shivering under the thin fabric of his PE kit.

“Jakey? What are you doing here…”

“Algy” Jake cut across “Iv been working up at the courage to tell you so shut up and let me speak!”

Algy nodded, slightly taken aback by the jakes abruptness and his urgent maker of speaking, almost as if he stoped talking for even a second, he would lose all momentum and stop.

Jake took a deep breath.

“Algy, I love you.”

He just stood there in shock, unable to comprehend what the other boy was saying.

“Iv always loved you, ever since we were kids. I knew it was wrong so I tried to fight but I can’t! I wish I could. Algy Delany I love you and nothing anyone says is ever going to change that’

Jake stood there, on Ally’s doorstep, breathing heavily. Algy couldn’t quite tell because of the rain, but he thought Jake was crying.

“But…its a sin”

“I don’t care anymore, don’t you see. I love you and I think….I think you love me too”

“But I can’t. The church forbids…..”

“You say all this, but you haven’t once said that you don’t love me back!”

Algy just stood and stared

“Say it then. Say that you don’t love me and I’ll leave you alone forever. I swear.”

“I…I don’t…..”

“You see? You can’t do it. You love me Algy, and you know it.”

“But…I can’t. You can’t, we can’t. Our families would never allow it!”

“Then lets run. Run so far away from here and nobody knows our names. We can be free!”

Algy bit his lip. “Okay. Give me a minute. I’ll get my things.”

As Algy and Jake began to run, all their savings in a curry Tupperware container, they laughed imagining the life they could lead.

“Where should we go?” Ally asked.

“I don’t know. Maybe Brighton?”

So they caught next train going south, as the train chugged off, into the sunset.
