will peddled towards the wsqk station for the week robin was hosting the station like old times whilst jimmy was out of town thatd hed been looking forward to for the past month ever since he recieved a call from her about it
now it has been a few months since he graduated and saw robin , now summers almost over with and next month he would be in a new place with new people and alot more experiences, sure he loved his hometown and his current friends but he was itching to get out there and see the world beyond Hawkins
as he came to a stop outside the station standing up his bike against the wall before pushing the cyan door open and walking inside , its funny many months ago this was the place where he came out to the party and was the place where they planned to destroy vecna and the upside down after many years of trauma and pain, will observes his surroundings
“hey will!” will heard a familiar voice calling out before getting out of the music booth “just on time i got like 30 minutes before im on air!”
“rockin’ robin!” he exclaims happily before walking towards her
“how’ve you been without me? missed me? enjoyed summer? hows the kids doing? hows mrs byers and hopper doing well everyone?” at this point she was excitedly rambleing
will was overwhelmed with questions
“one question at a time maybe?” he laughs
“right- sorry sorry! got to excited!” she joins in the laughing and will takes in that the last time he has seen her that she has changed her hair is still somewhat short and remained the same , she wears alot more jewellery like ear piercings and necklaces around her neck! and rings on her fingers, apart from that she has remained the same
“to answer your barrage of questions moms doing okay! hopper and her got engaged and are planning to move out with jane to moutauk”
“aww im happy they are engaged!” robin grins clearly happy
“and yes i missed you robin but ive been doing okay with everything! me and the party are stronger than ever really this summer weve been sticking together you know? how have you been outside of Hawkins?”
“oh! uh good its good out there honestly me and vickie are planning to get a apartment in new york somewhere and vickies almost done with medical school as for me ive just been chilling about i missed good old Hawkins- its good to be back” robin speaks
“wow really thats great!” will beams “im happy for you two!”
“are you finally excited to get out of Hawkins and start college?” robin enquires
“yeah! i really am im planning to study and major in art, and of course share a apartment with lucas and max!” will expresses
“wait what about mike?”
will freezes and his breath hitches
“u-uhm what about mike?” will feels his legs go numb and his cheeks flush, robin of course clocks this
“i mean isnt he going to the college that you are?” she eyes him suspiciously
“o-oh yeah he is were just not going to share a apartment”
“thats not like you and him did something happen?” robin querys raising a eyebrow as a small frown appears on her face
“not anything bad- i mean atleast i dont think anything bad but..” will trails off
“but?” robin encourages will to continue
“its just- recently we have been more closer and when i think theres something there he suddenly springs on me how platonic we are and how we are ‘best friends!!!’” will uses a mocking tone at the end pacing back and forth using his hands to explain it
“yeesh..” robin raises a eyebrow tracking wills movement as she puts her hands on her hips sensing how in distress will actually is
“its like im stuck on him! i feel like a fool waiting for something that has a low probability of happening! i just dont know what to do!” will runs a hand through his hair as he exclaims
“hey- firstly you are not a fool and secondly you just need a clearer signal!”
will stops his pacing to look at robin
“before me and vickie got together and i was unsure whether to go for it or not i used something like a common interest- for example we both was in a band in high school so i used that for example i used songs she liked and gradually i got bolder and bolder and used more romantic songs then the avalanche hitted you know? just like i said earlier this year!” robin explains as her cheeks flushed
he smiles as he looks at her reaction her and vickie are quite a cute couple and is always going to be happy for them but will deep down will always be slightly jealous, is it so hard to want romantic love as he snaps out of that thought pushing it down and aside he looks at her in thought
“you just need to think of something very telling to whether he likes you in a romantic way no more assuming or just guessing” robin smiles at him
“how long are you gonna be here for?” he queries suddenly
“a week why?” she glances at will slightly caught of guard
“i got a idea” he states
“okay shoot im all ears byers”
“what if.. you helped me?”
“help how?” robin smiled escatic suddenly clasping her hands
“well me and mike the probability of us hanging out everyday is high well what if you put a song on the radio that i request that is like you know a hint” will clarifies
“woah trying to take over my booth now will?” robin jokes
“may i remind you that its your temporary one” will snaps back
“yes yes no need to remind me fine ill help but itll cost ya!”
“what? i got mone-“
“im not that broke i dont need your money” robin deadpans.
“you know what nevermind ill help you out for free” robin gives him a suspicious knowing grin as she continues
“ooookkaayy..” will says slowly slightly hesitant now
“so how are we going to do this? telephone? you riding here everyday? you seriously need your drivers licence by the way”
“dont you think im trying?” will huffs out
“anyway i think phone is best”
“great! so what song do you want to play first?”
“heroes by david bowie!” will chippers
“any reason why?” robin interrogates
“well mike likes david bowie” wills face heats up
robin giggles “aw you sap- but hey no judgement here”
will cheeks turn red “dont make this to be bigger than it is.”
“well what it is youre a sap!” she teases
“hey! i am-“ he knows its futile to argue and he closes his mouth because he is definately being a sap, i mean really putting a song on that he knows that mike loves? really could he get any sappier than that?
“anyways how do i know if you and mike are together? so i know when to play the song and am i allowed to use your name publicially this is very important” robin questions
“well we hang out at the same time everyday around 12.30 everyday he comes to pick me up” will affirms “and yes you can i permit it”
“man hes consistent..” robin mutters and comments
“what was that?”
“nothing!”
“anyway- what time is it now?”
robin quickly glances at the clock at the sound booth through the smudged glass
“its about 12:15 is mike picking you up here?”
“yeah were going to get milkshakes with jane dustin max and lucas”
“so.. your both gonna thirdwheel a double date….” robin yet grins suspiciously
“okay whats with you grinning like that” will crosses his arms
“oh nothingg” she says sing songy
will eyes her suspiciously but he drops it as they talk and catch up more and overall it was pleasent until robin has to go back into setting up the radio again preparing to host again and will sits there and watches her from outside the booth seemingly lost in thought until a loud beep is heard from outside the station, snapping will out of his thoughts and he gets up and heads out to see who it is
he sees mike’s car well to be more specific his farthers ever since he passed his drivers licence hes been able to get permission to use it
will then grabs his bike and loads it into his trunk and shuts it as he gets into the car
“oh hey!” mike smiles as will gets into the car
“hey mike” will returns the smile as mike starts to drive
“had fun being with robin?” mike querys his eyes not leaving the road
“yeah it was nice catching up with her”
mike hums in response as will fidgets with the radio station turning it to the wsqk station as mike continues to drive to the diner where they were meeting the rest of the party not complaining about will touching the radio like he would if someone else touched it
then suddenly the radio crackles to life as the familiar theme tube of the wsqk fills the relaxed silence of the car
“hey folks guess who is back , thats right me robin aka rockin robin,” robin starts to speak as will smiles warmly
“today is a bright sunny day in Hawkins and all i gotta say is that its great to be back- i mean you must have all missed this voice am i right?” robin laughs warmly and a round if applause is heard probably a sound effect as they stop at a red light, will can slightly hear mike thrumming of his fingers against the wheel
“today we have a special request from a dear friend of mine of whom he is called will byers who requested for his- uh best friend you know who you are, and he wanted me to play heroes by david bowie”
will then hides his face slightly from embrassment even thiugh he expected it and partly because hes afraid of seeing mikes reaction but he needs to know. he needs to then he gets a ounce of courage as he looks at mike and he is looking at him with that dorky smile and he could slightly see a ounce of adoration?
then quickly will looks away his face definately now flushed as his breath hitched
“so first before any of the other songs i will be playing his request before anything else and yes before you ask other requests will be accepted for this week only whilst im in town no favortism here- well a little here but thats beside the point” robin announces

then the first beats of heroes started to play as mike continued to drive with a huge smile on his face as he does as will looks at mike the flush on his face now calmed down and silently takes in his smile.
god he loved his smile more than he will admit to anyone

will hears mike hum along to the song and will smiles like a idiot with seeing the sparkle in his eye but he quickly covers it up as he coughs awkwardly as if hes been caught even though mike is way to distracted in his own little world

then the song ended coincedentially at the same time they arrived at the diner as mike cutted the engine effectively cutting off the radio as they sitted in silence as mike finally spoke
“that was very sweet of you will” mike used a soft tone with him, more softer than usual
“i-uh its nothing really i just wanted to do something good for my friend” will stammers
“yeah! best friend” mike beams
then will mood turns sour- i mean seriously? its fine i walked myself into that one he thought but despite it the sour taste in his mouth remained
then it looked like mike wanted to say something else before they hear a bang on the window startleing both of them jumping slightly in their seats as they looked to see who it was, and it was lucas
“hey are you two gonna get out of that car?” he shouts his voice slightly muffled through the glass
“yeah!! give us a minute jeez!” mike says before looking at will one last time before getting out of the car
will follows out his legs feeling tingly and numb from nerves as he shutted the door as they greet lucas
“hey man!” mike greets lucas
“hey dude!” lucas greets back
“hey lucas” will speaks up
“hey- the others are waiting for us inside”
they follow lucas into the diner and lead them to the booth before sliding into next to max
“will! sit next to me” jane says as dustin gives a small wave to will as will sits next to her and mike sits directly opposite him
“what took you guys so long im hungry” max says
“shut up max! i was stuck in traffic on the way here ” mike rolls his eyes
“or that you were late” max remarks
“oh i didnt realise we had a time limit!” mike scoffs
“can you guys stop it?” will questions “im also hungry”
“sorry will” mike responds before looking through the menu as max from the far end of the table stiffles a laugh as mike gives her a questioning look
“whats so funny?” mike asks
“nothing nothing” she manages to say eventually as she calms down eventually
“your weird or something”
“aw you to!”
“shut it both of you” will snaps
“right- sorry sorry will” mike sincerely apologises
they eventually get to order and eat food and get milkshakes
“so whats the plan this week” jane asks as she dipped a fry into her sauce
“well i was thinking if we went to the lake again?” dustin suggested
and there was a vocal response of groans of objection
“we have went there like a million times already!” lucas argues
“its a good idea but we all need a different thing to do” jane responds to dustin sweetly before kissing him on the cheek
“how about the mall?” max says
“been there a ton of times there to” lucas replys
“arcade?” will suggests
“it gets boring after after so many times ” jane responds
“how about we go on a vacation?” mike suggests
they all stare in silence at mike as if he had grown a second head
“okay and where will we get the money from for a last minute one?” max argues
“we dont need money we can go on a roadtrip! completely free apart from staying in motels and petrol “ mike retorts
“do we even have the money for that?” lucas enquires
“well yeah summer jobs i have the money for that” will responds to lucas alongside with murmers of agreement from the group who also had money from summer jobs
“okay im actually listening to you wheeler” max hums “in that case who votes for a roadtrip?”
everyone hands go up apart from wills
“will?” mike asks in a small tone
“uh- i need to check something real quick before i decide excuse me for one second”
before he stands up
“if youre worried about college we got a month left before we start!” max calls out
“i know- just give me a minute!” he responds back
will then rushes to the nearest phone booth and he punches in the radio station number and putting it to his ear and taps his foot impatiently as he waits for robin to respond
“hey im on a commercial break whats up did the song work?” robin says as she picked up
“to answer your question yes it did he was smileing- but i got another problem”
“what is it?”
“the party wants to go on a roadtrip” will sighs and huffs out
“okay i see no problem?”
“will the radio work outside of Hawkins?” will asks to gather information
“i mean uh- i suppose? its a radio station so its supposed to be very far ranged probably across the whole country if i think about it ” robin replys back
“okay great!”
“you should go i think itd be fun” robin exclaims through the phone “anyway i gotta go bye will” then the line goes silent as will slots the phone back into the machenine and walks back into the diner
when he returns he looks at his friends who also looked at him expectantly
“yeah lets do it lets go on a road trip!” he announces as he sits back down
and in response there was noises of celebration jane and max letting out squeals of excitement
“okay its settled then! road trip”
this was going to be one road trip to remember
