Cheongdo, August 17
Taehyung ran as fast as he could, forcing himself not to look back. His legs were beginning to go numb, yet he somehow found the strength to push himself even harder. His lungs burned, so he ducked into a dark, unlit alley and hid behind a pile of cardboard boxes and wooden crates, desperately trying to steady his breathing. The moment he heard hurried footsteps approaching, he held his breath. Curling into himself, he squeezed his eyes shut.
He couldn't let them catch him. He wanted to live.
“Where the hell did he go?!”
“Aish!” One of the men kicked a metal trash can, sending it clattering across the pavement. “Find him!”
Two of them ran off in opposite directions while the third slowly searched the alley.
Taehyung's heart pounded so violently he thought it might give out. Tears soaked his cheeks as he clutched the sides of his head, terrified beyond anything he had ever experienced. He dared to open one eye and caught sight of the man's shadow creeping closer. Every instinct screamed at him to run, yet he fought to stay perfectly still not even allowing himself the smallest sound.
Cold sweat soaked through his clothes despite the warm August evening. So why wouldn't anyone help him? Because this was the outskirts of the city, one of its poorest districts. Around here, everyone fought their own battle just to survive another day. And with the country having been at war for years, people had learned to mind their own business. Eventually, the man backed away.
Taehyung let out a shaky breath far too soon. Someone grabbed his wrist and yanked him out from behind the crates. A scream rose in his throat, only to be smothered by a hand covering his mouth. His terrified eyes flew open. Another wave of tears spilled down his face this time from relief. The man standing before him wore a mask, but Taehyung would recognize those chocolate-brown eyes anywhere. He couldn't look away. The other man glanced behind them, then silently pulled Taehyung farther into the shadows before guiding him through a narrow hole hidden behind a crumbling wall.
They walked in silence through a maze of narrow backstreets until they reached a tiny shelter. It wasn't much to look at, but it was home. One corner of an old brick building had somehow survived whatever had destroyed the rest. Sheets of corrugated metal leaned against it, forming a makeshift wall and roof. The whole structure looked like it could collapse with the next strong wind, yet it had stubbornly remained standing for months. Instead of a door, they had a thick piece of fabric hanging from a rope, which helped keep at least some of the cold outside.
The man shoved Taehyung onto a stained mattress before setting a pot of water on a small portable gas stove. Like almost everything they owned, it had been salvaged from the trash. As long as it still worked, none of them complained. The brown-eyed one tore open a packet of instant ramen with his teeth and dropped the noodles into the boiling water. While it cooked, he shot Taehyung a glare.
“Care to explain what that was supposed to be?” he demanded, getting to his feet. “Are you trying to get yourself killed?”
“I didn't mean for any of that to happen...”
“You never mean to.” He let out a frustrated sigh. "But it happened anyway. Do you seriously think I'll always be around to save your ass?”
“I...”
“Taehyung, you're an adult. Start thinking before you do something reckless.”
His fist slammed against the wooden board they used as a table.
“I'm sorry." Taehyung lowered his head. "And... thank you. I still don't know how you always manage to find me at exactly the right moment."
“You're more predictable than you think,” the older man replied, his voice softening.
“Just admit you've been stalking him, Seokjin."
A familiar voice came from outside. A moment later the fabric serving as their door was pushed aside, and their friend stepped inside.
“Hoseok. Where have you been this time?" Seokjin asked, clearly eager to change the subject.
“Out shopping.”
Both of them looked at him skeptically. Shopping? With what money?
"Oh, come on." Hoseok rolled his eyes. "I helped a couple of elderly people carry their things. They insisted on paying me, so I stopped by the convenience store."
“You didn't run into them, did you?” Taehyung asked quietly, his eyes widening. “That's their territory.”
“Luckily, no.” Hoseok grinned as he pulled several cans of beer from his bag. “Which means we have something to celebrate.”
"I honestly admire how you stay so positive," Taehyung said, taking one of the cans.
"One of these days that'll get you into trouble," Seokjin muttered, grabbing another.
“Jinjin, relax.” Hoseok rolled his eyes. “Sometimes you're worse than an overprotective mother.”
Seokjin chose to ignore the comment. The three of them talked late into the night, laughing far louder than anyone living through a war probably should have, until exhaustion finally sent them to sleep.
Their situation was simple. The three of them lived together in what could barely be called a shelter, and not only did they have to fight every single day just to find something to eat, but the entire neighborhood was controlled by a particularly vicious group. It was one of the poorest parts of Cheongdo, where bombed-out houses stood with collapsed roofs and shattered walls, and empty lots marked the places where homes had once been.
The persecutors weren't wealthy themselves, yet they acted as though everything belonged to them. They intimidated everyone they came across, though for some reason they seemed especially obsessed with those three. Heavy clubs were never far from their hands, and they had no hesitation using them on anyone who crossed their path. In fact, they almost seemed to enjoy it. Even the police patrols roaming the streets weren't nearly as terrifying as they were.
There were days when they stayed inside the abandoned warehouse they called home. Taehyung was curious, sometimes far too curious for his own good, so he often followed them there from a distance. Strangely enough, once they were inside, they seemed... normal. They laughed around a fire, shared food, talked animatedly like ordinary friends.
Then why did they spread fear and destruction the moment they stepped outside? He didn't know. And that was exactly why, earlier that evening, he'd gone back again. This time, however, he'd been caught. He had risked his own life simply because his curiosity was stronger than his fear. Fortunately he'd escaped before anything worse happened. Which, unfortunately, only meant he'd want to try again. And Jin was definitely going to kill him for it.
Cheongdo, August 20
“Curious as always.” The tall young man shoved Taehyung against the wall. “You'll regret it this time.”
Of course he hadn't been able to stay away. Only this time luck had finally abandoned him. They'd caught him, and there was no one nearby to save him. He'd told Jin and Hoseok he was going to search the junkyard for things they could use around their shelter. Instead, he'd gone in the complete opposite direction. Jin probably should have seen it coming, but Hoseok had convinced him to trust the younger man.
Well... He shouldn't have.
“Namjoon...” Taehyung struggled against the two men holding him in place. “Why are you doing this? Why are you on their side?” His eyes found the third man. “Yoongi... please...”
“Shut up.” Yoongi's fist crashed into his face. “You should forget about the past. Got it?”
“Like you did?” Taehyung spat blood onto the concrete. “Sorry. I can't. I'm not a heartless traitor... or trash.”
Another punch. His vision blurred. They used to be friends. When times were temporarily bearable. Back then they'd promised to stick together no matter what happened. Instead, Namjoon, Yoongi and Jungkook had chosen to side with the occupiers. Now they terrorized the streets, reported anyone who broke the rules, and carried out every order without mercy. Taehyung could never understand why. Why had they abandoned them? Had they always been capable of this kind of violence? Why were they especially cruel toward the people they'd once called friends? He had searched for answers countless times. At one point he'd even wondered if someone had brainwashed them. But whenever he secretly watched them inside their warehouse, they acted just like they used to. Laughing, talking, being themselves. Which only made everything harder to understand.
“What did I ever do to you?” he shouted. “I'm not even breaking your ridiculous laws! I'm just trying to survive!”
“You've been caught multiple times performing for people at night.” Namjoon folded his arms. “Singing to give them hope. Very clever. Then there's stealing food...” His expression hardened. “And, well... you're Korean.”
Taehyung scoffed.
“As if you aren't.” He laughed bitterly. “You're nothing but obedient dogs. You think those Japanese officers won't dispose of you eventually? The moment you're no longer useful, they'll shoot you just like everyone else."
Another punch. His nose burst open, and a dark bruise had already begun forming beneath one eye.
“You're...” He barely managed to lift his head. “...cowards.”
“What did you say?”
“You're afraid...” Taehyung whispered, staring straight at them. “Afraid of who you really are.”
His voice trembled, but he didn't look away.
“You're too afraid to fight for your own people... so you joined the enemy instead.”
For the first time... He thought he finally understood. Or at least, he hoped he did. A brutal kick landed in his stomach, folding him in half.
“Throw him in the cage.” Namjoon's voice was cold. “I don't want to look at him anymore.”
At that very moment, Jin and Hoseok were already searching the junkyard.
“I told you he wouldn't be here!” Jin's voice cracked. "He must've been caught! Damn it...” Tears welled in his eyes. “We're already too late."
“Jin, it'll be okay.” Hoseok tried to sound confident. “They all know each other. They wouldn't hand him over that easily... right?"
“You're too naive, Hobi.” Jin shook his head. “Namjoon has always had a temper. The first chance he got, he showed everyone who he really was.”
“We'll get Tae back.”
“I hope you're right.” His voice was barely above a whisper. “We can't lose another person.”
“Speaking of that...” Hoseok said casually. “Jimin was like a brother to all of us.” He glanced sideways at Jin. “But I think Taehyung means something more to you.”
“Don't talk nonsense.”
Jin looked away immediately. The two friends returned to their shelter first. Jin tucked two knives into the waistband of his pants, just in case. Hoseok, meanwhile, wrapped his torso in several layers of bubble wrap he'd scavenged earlier. Jin didn't even comment anymore. Sometimes he genuinely wondered how Hoseok had managed to survive this long. Together they headed toward the warehouse where the three traitors usually stayed and where Taehyung was most likely being held. They approached from behind. Through a narrow crack in the wooden wall, they peeked inside. No Japanese soldiers, no police. At least there was that. Jin wanted to come up with a proper plan first. Hoseok, on the other hand, had no interest in waiting. He had always been impulsive. Always rushing headfirst into danger without thinking. It was almost as if he couldn't grasp the seriousness of their situation. As though he refused to accept that this was a real war. That any one of them could die tomorrow. Today was no different. To him, it almost felt like some dangerous game. Maybe pretending was simply easier. Maybe denying reality was the only way he could protect himself from it.
If it kept him sane... Who was Jin to take that away? Even if he'd never truly understood it.
“Hobi...” Jin whispered. “Do you hear anything?”
“Not really.” Hoseok frowned. “We'll have to go inside.”
“Have you completely lost your mind?” Jin hissed. “They're probably better armed than we are! Did you forget those clubs they carry around? You want to get beaten half to death again?”
“No...” Hoseok awkwardly patted his chest. “...but I wrapped myself in bubble wrap.”
Jin stared at him in disbelief.
“You seriously think that's going to help?” He turned to face him, frustration written all over his face. “Will you please understand that this isn't some stupid game? You only get one life. You don't respawn. This is a real war!” He suddenly grabbed Hoseok by the arm and pulled him down. “Crouch.”
A Japanese soldier was walking down the street nearby.
“Hyung...” Hoseok spoke quietly once the footsteps faded. “I know all that.” He lowered his eyes. “But... pretending nothing's happening works for me. I'd rather laugh...than lock myself away and cry every night.”
“You still cry.” Jin's expression softened. “Just in your sleep.”
A heavy silence settled between them.
“I just don't want to lose you too.”
Hoseok gave him a small smile.
“First we need to figure out if Tae's really in there.”
“That won't be necessary.”
A familiar voice echoed from above them. Jin closed his eyes. Damn it. A few minutes later... The two rescuers found themselves locked inside the very same cage as the person they'd come to save. Taehyung was bruised and battered, but conscious. Seokjin immediately knelt beside him.
“Tae... can you hear me?”
The younger man gave a weak nod.
“I'm sorry.” His voice cracked. “I know I shouldn't have wandered off... But I couldn't help it. My curiosity won.”
Jin gently cupped his bruised cheek. Taehyung finally looked up at him. The shame in his eyes hurt far more than the bruises. He'd been captured, beaten. And worst of all... He'd dragged his friends into it too.
“Hey.” Hoseok sat down beside them and held out a small container. “It's ointment.”
He answered their unspoken question before either of them could ask.
“Where did you get that?” Taehyung asked, genuinely surprised.
“I brought it with me.” A faint smile crossed Hoseok's lips. “I actually prepared for this. You remember when my father used to beat me?”
Taehyung slowly nodded.
“I made this from those blue flowers you gave me back then.” He placed the container in Taehyung's hand. “It works really well, it'll help with the pain.”
Silence settled between them. Jin carefully began applying the ointment to Taehyung's bruises, while the younger man watched him intently. He liked watching Jin concentrate. Loose strands of dark hair kept falling into his face, yet he never bothered brushing them away, and a small crease always appeared between his brows whenever he focused on something. Taehyung sat perfectly still, letting him work, while Hoseok wandered around the cell, searching for some way to escape. There was none. They were trapped, condemned to wait until the soldiers came for them. That... or death at the hands of Namjoon, Jungkook, or Yoongi. The latter sat near a hole surrounded by chunks of broken concrete, where a small fire burned.
“Yoon,” Hoseok called after a while.
Yoongi looked reluctantly in his direction.
"Where did the others go?"
“To get the guards,” he replied flatly. “So don't even think about escaping.”
“I wasn't...” Hoseok hesitated. “But why don't you come with us?”
“Hobi, don't bother.” Jin finished spreading the ointment over another bruise. “A traitor will always be a traitor. Don't expect him to help us.”
Yoongi merely scoffed. No one spoke after that.
Taehyung remained curled up against the wall with Seokjin sitting beside him, while Hoseok repeatedly rested his forehead against the cold stone in frustration. The blond felt terribly guilty. If it weren't for him, none of them would be here, wondering whether their lives were about to end. Fear had emptied his mind completely. He couldn't think of a single plan.
For the first time in a long while... He felt utterly useless. They waited for what felt like forever before Namjoon and Jungkook finally returned. They spoke quietly with Yoongi for a moment before walking over to the cell. All three prisoners immediately noticed the dark bruise beneath Namjoon's eye. Apparently, even loyalty to the occupiers didn't make life any easier.
“They'll be here soon,” Namjoon said. “You're being taken to the embassy in Daegu. That's where their nearest headquarters is.”
Without another word, he turned to leave.
“Namjoon!” Hoseok decided to try one last time. “Are you really going to keep being their lapdog? They could kill you any day now, just like they could kill us. Why don't you run away with us?”
“It's the only way we'll live longer than you.”
“Is it?” Hoseok shot back. “We're still alive, aren't we? We've spent the last five years hiding well enough to survive.”
“So who's the real coward here?”
“Maybe...” Hoseok sighed. “Maybe all of us. None of us has the strength to stand up to them alone. For now, staying alive is the best we can do. But surrendering to them was never an option."
He looked directly at the three of them.
“Unless... this whole thing was some clever plan to gather confidential information.” A bitter smile tugged at his lips. “Judging by your faces... I doubt it.”
No one had the chance to answer. The warehouse doors suddenly burst open as a group of Japanese soldiers marched inside. The three friends were pulled out of the cell and escorted to the back of a military truck. Namjoon, Yoongi and Jungkook climbed in after them to keep watch.
While the two Japanese soldiers in the front argued loudly about something, the atmosphere in the back remained heavy with silence. Eventually, one of them spoke. Carefully. Making sure the soldiers wouldn't realize he was speaking Korean.
“Listen carefully.” Namjoon kept his voice low. We'll be making one stop on the way. We're going to help you escape.”
“And why should we trust you?” Jin asked immediately, his voice dripping with disbelief. "This is probably just another one of your brilliant ideas to earn their favor."
"Not this time." Namjoon finally dared to meet his eyes. “I know this is going to sound unbelievably stupid... but I regret it. Maybe not at first. I just wanted to survive. Just like you. But... We chose the worse path.”
“Shizuka ni!" one of the Japanese soldiers barked from the front.
“What did he say?” Taehyung whispered.
“He told us to be quiet,” Yoongi answered under his breath. “Listen. We'll stop once. Either you trust us and run... or you'll die in Daegu. Your choice.”
“How are we supposed to escape?” Tae asked.
“When the truck stops, we'll loosen your handcuffs. We'll pretend we're going to the restroom. The two soldiers will stay behind to guard you, but we'll come up behind them. They always keep spare weapons beside the driver's seat.”
“Won't there be more soldiers at the stop?” Hoseok asked.
“The two driving now will switch places with another pair. They'll exchange a few stupid jokes... then leave almost immediately.” Namjoon's voice grew even quieter. “That'll be your only chance. So think carefully.”
The soldier in the front slammed a hand against the metal partition.
“Shizuka ni suru to itta darō!” ("I told you to be quiet!")
After that, no one said another word. Their minds were a mess, and none of them knew what to do. Jin didn't trust them, not even a little, but if his friends decided to take the risk, then he would too. Hoseok was willing to try, while Taehyung wanted nothing more than to return to their miserable little shelter, be with his friends again, stop worrying about tomorrow, and simply enjoy being alive. Quietly, he reached for Jin's hand and closed his eyes, trying to hold back his tears. He blamed himself for everything, but there was no turning back time. They had to try to escape. If their former friend was lying, then they had nothing left to lose anyway.
Eventually, the truck came to a stop, and Taehyung could feel his heart pounding against his ribs. It made him nauseous. Namjoon, together with the other two, loosened their restraints before climbing out of the vehicle. Hoseok cautiously leaned toward the opening, waiting for the perfect moment.
“Hyung...” the blond murmured, fidgeting with his fingers.
“What is it?” Jin looked at him with concern.
“If... if we don't make it... if we die...” Tae swallowed hard. “I want you to know I'm sorry. I feel awful, and if it weren't for me...”
“Stop.” Jin cupped his face in both hands before he could finish. “Yes, you could've been more careful, but don't blame yourself for this. These are the times we live in. We were lucky to survive this long.” He gently wiped away a tear before resting his forehead against Tae's. “We have to believe it'll be alright.”
“Guys, we'll have to move any second now,” Hoseok warned quietly. “Get ready.”
A moment later, the first gunshot echoed outside. Then a second.
“Now!” they heard Namjoon's voice shout.
The three of them jumped out of the truck and ran in the direction he'd indicated. The smartest thing would've been not to look back. But Taehyung was far too curious. He slowed down and glanced over his shoulder. Then he stopped.
“Hyung, watch out!”
“I'm sorry.”
He couldn't hear the words. He only read them from the movement of Joon's lips. It was already too late. Two Japanese soldiers had arrived to replace the previous guards, immediately turning their attention to the three traitors. Yoongi and Jungkook were thrown violently to the ground, while Namjoon collapsed a heartbeat later as a bullet tore through his head.
Taehyung froze. Horror rooted him to the spot. Jin grabbed his arm and tried to pull him along, but he didn't move an inch.
“Taetae, hurry!”
“D-did you see...”
“Yes.” Tears began filling Jin's eyes. “But we can't stay here or we'll end up the same way.” His voice broke. “Please... I can't lose you too. Hurry!”
Taehyung wiped his face and forced himself to run again. He felt even worse now. But he couldn't let his friend's sacrifice be in vain. Maybe... Maybe this had been Namjoon's way of making up for everything. He only hoped the others would somehow manage to escape as well. That one day... They would meet again. But he couldn't know for certain.
They ran for nearly an hour without stopping. Adrenaline numbed every muscle in their bodies, leaving them oblivious to both exhaustion and the distance they'd covered. They only slowed once they reached a forest. None of them knew where they were anymore, and darkness was quickly settling over the trees. They continued deeper into the woods, keeping away from the road in case someone happened to pass by. None of them had spoken since losing sight of their friends. The silence was heavy, yet beneath it lingered a quiet sense of relief. They were still alive.
Hoseok walked at the front, checking the path and pushing branches out of the way.
“Can we stop for a little while?” Taehyung held a hand against his stomach. “I haven't eaten since yesterday.”
“I'm all for it.” Hoseok leaned against a nearby tree.
“Let's go a little farther first,” Jin said, carefully brushing away the tracks they'd left behind. “Or better yet, start gathering branches and leaves. We'll need to build some kind of shelter.”
“On the other hand...” Hoseok scratched the back of his neck. “Is that really safe? What if this is their territory and we accidentally sit on a landmine?”
“Hobi...”
“What? I'd rather not get blown to pieces. It's already dark. Maybe we should just go back to the road.”
“Or we stay right here,” Taehyung suggested. “We can go back a little, collect some branches, and use them.”
The other two exchanged a glance before nodding in agreement.
They spent the night more keeping watch than sleeping, barely gathering enough strength to continue at dawn. Staying there wasn't an option, so they set off again as soon as the sun began to rise.
Along the way, they stumbled upon a delivery truck carrying food and managed to steal a small portion for themselves. They didn't reach the outskirts of the city until late that evening, perhaps even the following day. They moved carefully, hiding whenever they heard voices or footsteps, until they finally arrived back at their shelter.
The three of them collapsed onto the old mattress at once, letting out relieved sighs. It wasn't over yet.
“We can't stay here any longer. They'll find us sooner or later.”
“Hopefully later,” Hoseok muttered. “I'd like to get some sleep first.”
“Hoseok, this isn't the time for jokes. We barely made it out alive... and Namjoon sacrificed himself.”
“Do you think the others escaped?”
“I doubt it.” Silence settled between them once more. “We'll stay here until tomorrow, then we'll leave.”
“Leave where?” Tae asked quietly.
“I don't know,” Seokjin admitted.
Suddenly, they heard footsteps approaching. All three froze, instinctively holding their breath. For a terrifying moment, they thought the soldiers had found them after all.
Whoever was running was coming straight toward their shelter, but the footsteps didn't sound like heavy military boots. A shadow appeared on the sheet that served as their door. Time seemed to stop. The fabric was pulled aside, revealing...
“Jungkook!” Taehyung jumped to his feet and threw his arms around him. “You're alive... Thank goodness.” Tears streamed freely down his face. “How? Where have you been? Are you alright?”
“You could say that...” Jungkook's voice trembled. “But... Namjoon hyung and Yoongi hyung...” His eyes filled with tears. “They didn't make it. They're dead.”
Silence.
“I should've died too,” he whispered. “After everything I did to you... not just to you, but to everyone...”
“Don't say that.”
“I really am sorry. I regret it just as much as Namjoon did. When we went to get the soldiers, he told me he was ready to die. He couldn't keep living like that anymore.” He wiped his eyes with the sleeve of his jacket. “We treated you horribly... but we only wanted to survive. And now...” His voice cracked. “I'm alone.”
“You've got us.” Taehyung squeezed his shoulder gently. “We just have to stick together.”
“How did you lose them?” Hoseok asked.
“I grabbed one of the soldiers' rifles and shot the ones who were still there. I wanted to save the others too...” He lowered his head. “...but I was too late. So I ran after you. I hid behind some crates in a delivery truck. I saw you taking food from it, but I waited until you'd gone before climbing out.”
His gaze wandered around their shelter.
“So... this is where you've been living all this time?”
“Yeah.” Taehyung gave an awkward smile. “It isn't much, but it's enough.”
The four of them sat around the battered wooden table.
“We'll regain our strength tonight,” Seokjin said firmly. “Tomorrow, we leave.”
His eyes shifted toward Jungkook.
“And don't even think about trying anything.” His voice was calm. “But if you do...” A faint, tired smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. “I'll deal with you myself.”
Jungkook only raised his hands in surrender. He had no intention of hurting anyone anymore. Never again. It was finally time for him to change.
They talked for a little while longer before squeezing together on the worn-out mattress and falling asleep.
Sancheong, October 15
Taehyung sprinted with all the strength he had left. His legs were slowly going numb, yet he forced himself to run even faster. He couldn't give up now not when the finish line was so close. Just a few more meters...
He crossed it at last, bending over with his hands on his knees as he struggled to catch his breath.
“Taetae, you did amazing! You beat your record.” Jin walked over and wrapped him in a hug.
“Really? Yes!” Tae grinned, hugging him back.
“Now we can finally get something to eat.”
“And after that, I'd kill for a shower.”
“And some sleep.”
“Exactly.” He smiled and then froze when Jin pressed a quick kiss to his cheek. The older man immediately looked away, pretending nothing had happened, and started walking toward the mess hall.
For the past month, they had been stationed at a special training camp, preparing to become soldiers. This time, they were fighting for Korea.
Not everything in their lives had fallen into place yet, but for the first time in a long while, they could see hope ahead of them. They no longer had to hide in abandoned buildings or worry about being dragged away simply for existing. Death was still a possibility, but now it would come on the battlefield, fighting for their homeland. Somehow, that felt different.
For now, though, all they had to do was train. And Jin had come to realize that time was never guaranteed. So instead of hiding his feelings, he had finally begun showing Taehyung how much he cared. Hoseok and Jungkook were already waiting for them in the mess hall.
The moment Tae saw their smiling faces, a wave of relief washed over him. Despite everything they had lost despite the pain, the fear, and the people they would never see again, they had survived. Somehow, they had found a place where they could recover, gather their strength, and become useful instead of merely trying to stay alive.
That evening, the four of them wandered outside to enjoy the cold autumn air. A sharp gust of wind made Taehyung shiver as he stared into the distance. Even though they had survived, he knew the danger was far from over. His heart still tightened whenever memories of the past resurfaced, refusing to let him find true peace. Beside him, Hoseok gazed silently at the darkening sky.
“Do you think we'll ever be able to sleep peacefully again?” he asked, more to himself than anyone else.
“I don't know,” Jin replied, gently taking Taehyung's hand. “But we have to try. For them.”
Jungkook gave a quiet nod.
“We'll keep fighting until the very end. We'll survive for as long as we can.”
Night settled over the camp, bringing darkness and an early autumn chill. The four friends instinctively drifted closer together, searching for warmth in one another's presence. The road ahead was still long, uncertain, and filled with dangers they couldn't yet imagine. But they would keep moving forward, because they had survived this long. And because now... they finally had something worth living for.
