Chapter 1: Five Years…FIVE YEARS!

Chapter Text

It's been Five years since Uma vanished without a trace...

Since then the VKs and Ben have been planning bringing five new VKs from the isle over to Auradon however it keeps hitting walls whether it's the fairy godmother not being available or Ben not being available or worse The VKs not being available however this past month everything suddenly has moved, they've picked five new VKs and are planning to go and meet them to bring them over to Auradon. Mason on the other hand, hasn't been very focused on 'VK Day' and instead has been trying to hunt down Uma. Years of reports from sailors, merchants and pilots saying they've spotted blue tentacles in the pure blue ocean waters but yet no sign of her when anyone goes to investigate.

It's the middle of July, the flowers are blooming in Auradon and it feels like a normal day for Mason. Mason's eyes fly open as he yawns, his hair a mess. He gets up and throws open his closet, picking an outfit and putting it on constantly looking in the mirror. He walks up to it and takes a seat at his vanity, stuck to the mirror with a massive blob of blue tack is a picture of Mason and Ben last year. Ben looking at Mason with those, 'I'm never leaving you eyes.' Mason mid laugh looking at Ben like he's the best thing in the world. And he was. Mason brushed his hair before looking at the post-it note on top of his diary, 'Mason, I had to leave to go work. I love you.' was written in Ben's messy but yet adorable handwriting. Mason smiled as he put on his shoes and left.

"Mason...you're late!" Evie says rushing Mason out of the castle. "Late for what?" Mason asks laughing as Mal joins them rushing him outside. "The VK Day celebrations." Mal says taking his hand, the doors fly open and Mason sees a massive celebration. Banners are everywhere, balloons and even fairy godmother passing around with Jane who looked like she was desperate to get away. Jane hasn't been right since Carlos passed away, none do the group have. However, everyone has been powering through just like Carlos would've always wanted. Mason looks at Mal, "I just wish Carlos was here to see all this..." Mason says quietly like saying it more loud would make it hurt more. Mal and Evie look down not wanting to reveal their emotions. "Me too." Jay says, appearing behind them, a silence in the group as they start to hug "he's always with us..." Mal adds hugging the group tightly, not wanting to let go. "Your mom would hate an event like this." Evie says laughing, "Imagine Mal's she'd curse the entire place". Mason adds laughing, "I don't actually know where she is, probably on the isle." Mal adds

"Mason!" The Fairy Godmother shouts, Mason turns around and smiles giving her a hug, "now, everything is set for Celia, Harriet, Maddy, Squeeky and Squirmy to come to Auradon. We just need your signature." The Fairy Godmother says handing him a golden folder, Mason signs it and smiles at her before turning to the buffet table and eating a strawberry. "Those are for the new VKs." Chad says rolling his eyes, Mason laughs and says, "and your attitude is so five years ago. Grow up." Mason smiles as Chad storms away, "has anyone seen Ben?" Mason asked Mal who shrugged, Evie smiled as Jay looked away. "What's going on?" Mason asked, Evie smiled and said, "just be patient..."

"Places...places." Audrey sings as everyone forms into lines and starts to sing, "His heart's all a flutter, his brain is now butter...his forehead is bathed in sweat." The group starts to sing, Mason looks confused as Ben comes through the group, "I met this guy who rocked my world like it's never been rocked and now I'm living just for him and I won't let it stop." Ben walks over with a smile on his face, "but now look at what you've done you got me...down on my knee." Ben sings as he gets down on one knee, Mason's mouth instantly drops open. "Mason Yzma...you've made me the happiest man alive for almost four years. Every day I'm with you, I fall more and more in love with you. You're the person who made me believe true love was real...will you marry me." Ben opens the engagement ring box, a beautiful pink diamond surrounded by vines, Mason looks down at the ring as his eyes fill up with tears. "Ben..." Mason says before laughing, "Yes!" Mason said, dropping to his knees, "Yes! Yes Ben, I will marry you!" He said as the crowd erupted in cheers as Ben kissed Mason.

Mason walked over to Mal, Evie and Jay with a smile, "How much did you guys know?" Mason asked, "Everything, you're gonna be a great king!" Evie said, Ben laughed and walked over, "Queen actually." Ben said, taking Mason's hand as Mason rested his head on Ben's shoulder. A little quirk they always do when they are together, " In Auradon, the title of King and Queen aren't gendered, more of co rulers titles." Ben adds, Mason smiled and nodded. "King Ben and Queen Mason, I can see the merch already." Dizzy, daughter of Drizella who was brought over from the isle five years ago, says with a smile. Ben and Mason laugh before a siren tore through Auradon and the celebration froze. Even the music seemed to hesitate as The Fairy Godmother's voice echoed through the courtyard, strained but steady. "Everything is okay... everyone please remain calm!" But the sky had already begun to change.

A shadow rolled across the ocean. Then green. A thick, unnatural green that crawled toward the castle like it was alive. Mason's hand tightened around Ben's instantly. "Ben..." he whispered. Then the ocean erupted. Green smoke burst upward in a violent wave, swallowing the horizon in seconds. And then came the laughter. Cold. Familiar. Impossible. "You really thought you'd won..." The voice echoed through every stone of Auradon. "...it's time to take you to my reality." The smoke hit the courtyard. Audrey screamed first. Then Chad. Then Evie but she got cut off mid-breath. Mal reached for Jay. Jay reached back. But the smoke separated them. Ben pulled Mason closer. "I love you," Ben said, desperately, like it could anchor reality. "I love you!" Mason answered immediately. Then Ben was gone. Just... gone. Mason didn't even have time to call his name again. The smoke swallowed him too.

And Auradon disappeared.
Then the Isle.
Then everything.
