Chapter Text

Greetings, my dear reader, and welcome to the Mondstädter Liederbuch!

Before we begin, it is important for me to introduce you to the proper structure and system of this work in order to make sure no misunderstandings happen. Thank you greatly for giving me the time of day, feedback and comments are always more than welcome!

This book is NOT canon despite it being written as such. The songs within are based on real-life German folk and military music, rewritten and translated to fit into Mondstadt. I claim no ownership over any of the original works and neither so I share any viewpoints of any possible authors. The original songs will be linked in the endnotes. This work is meant to be a fun worldbuilding thing where I am collecting in-universe Mondstadt songs; it is not meant to be political or hateful in any way, shape or form.

'Old Mondstadtian' within this work will refer to German as I headcanon for that to be the case in Genshin. This is based on the manga where Venti has used German as a language in naming his lyre ("Der Frühling" = "Spring") and then translating said name 'into Common' for Vennessa to understand. Culturally Old Mondstadtian has the same role as Latin in the the catholic church. Left will be the translated Common/English version while right will show the original Old Mondstadtian/German version; both are already changed to fit in-universe. For the OG text, I recommend either following the link to the song I have used as a base in the end notes or (should that not be an option for some reason) just asking for it in the comments. I'll either send you a link or just the lyrics themselves in response.

You are more than free to use the songs in this fic for your own works; however, I do humbly ask you to credit me should you do so. A simple link to this work in your notes is more than enough; you won't need to ask for explicit permission or anything. The characters tagged are the characters that will be mentioned within the book. Furthermore feel free to check out my Genshin Tumblr sideblog here

Incase anyone is wondering, my qualifications for writing this are:

  • I'm German
  • I really enjoy the folk and historical music of my home
  • Mondstadt is my single most favorite nation
  • Lord Barbatos said I should do it

Once again I thank you all for clicking! I hope you will enjoy what you see and have a wonderful day.
