“Wow. You really did a number on this place, Replacement.”
Broken glass crackles underfoot as the younger boy shifts. His eyes are hooded, his face gaunt with exhaustion.
“What do you want, Jason? Why would you even come here?” Tim’s hands flutter vaguely, gesturing to the breakage around them. “There’s just…there’s literally nothing here.”
“Except you.”
“I’m nothing, too.”
“Are you?”
“Yes. You said as much, remember? I’m just” – a laugh, a fractured thing ripe with bitter amusement – “a subpar, unworthy replacement.”
“I didn’t mean that.”
“You did.”
“I wasn’t thinking clearly. I was angry.”
“Well, so am I, Jason.”
