steak anon takes a deep breath in, staring at the plate with tears beckoning to fall from his eyes. "steak... you're so tender and medium rare... a perfect fifty-six degrees celsius, all for me..." he whispered, hands shaking as he grabbed at the fork and knife residing at the sides of the platter.
he wiped a small tear off his cheek with his forearm.
"i've waited ages. i've travelled through seas of war and fear, hurricanes and storms of despair, all to finally be with you." steak anon mumbles, a weary smile making its way to his face. slowly, he dug the steak knife into the meat, sawing off a bite-sized piece with utmost delicacy and care before spooning it into his mouth.
all of a sudden, his smile fell.
"steak... how could you?!" he choked out, his tears flooding his vision as he fork and knife clattered onto the table as he jumped out of his seat. to his utter horror, steak anon was staring down into lies cascading across the plate. the steak... was well-done.
"things weren't supposed to end like this!!" he cried, falling to his knees. "we— we were going to be happy! together! you, medium-rare, and me, well-fed!!" his words rang out, resounding in the dining room with a stagnant boom.
he pushed the plate aside, head falling into his hands against the cold tabletop. "i bet you weren't even butter basted!!" he accused, a venomous bite in his voice. however, his anger was short-lived, a sudden guilt taking over instead.
he glanced at the plate, at the well-crusted, perfectly salted, despairingly well-done steak. steak anon sighed, remorsefully tugging the plate close as he sat back in his chair.
"i'm—" the words wouldn't come out. they were stuck in his throat, but he pushed them out with a hoarse voice. "— i'm sorry. i know i shouldn't be mad over something so trivial. i just— i just wanted today to be perfect... i wanted you to be perfect. but..." steak anon rested his hands on the fork and knife, looking off to the side. "i need to recognize that perfection is unattainable in this world, and that i shouldn't be mad about something you cannot control. just because other steaks are medium-rare, doesn't mean you have to be, too. everyone loves a good well-done steak!"
he chuckled, slowly carving into the meat once again. "just know... i love you. even if i don't show it enough."
