Chapter 1: Intro.

Link….. LINK… LINK Why did you leave me…you let me die… why why why....It was the same dream again. The red sprawling void he was in. Zelda's pained crys for help, but all he could do was watch from afar. He could only watch as the guillotine blade slowly rising. The crys got louder and more desperate as the blade rose higher. Until it dropped. Link awoke covered in sweat gasping for air “Another damn nightmare” He grumbled.

It was almost 18 years since that painful day yet said painful day haunted him almost constantly. Hyrule had grown a lot in the past 18 years. Castle City extended from Crenel peak to Giants forest to as down south to Windvane meadow.
All that space was filled with housing and whatnot. The castle was a grand palace. A castle he would be living in if he wasn't such a coward.

He got up and went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. One of the only things keeping him sane was his cooking. He loved cooking. He loved experimenting with food. He decided he would make a crepe for breakfast. It was one of Sonia's favorites.

He was proud of his daughter, Sonia. She would be graduating in a few months before going to the knights academy. Her 18th birthday was today. He hoped she would like his gift. It was a beautiful white rapier with gold accents with encrusted gems on it. A farewell gift before she left to become a knight.

He wasn't very close with her. He looked up when he heard walking. He saw her walking into the kitchen, or more so ran in as she had slept in. “Not even a good morning, or at least a thank you for this breakfast I've made”. She mumbled thanks to him. As she was about to run out the door he stopped her. “Happy birthday”. He said with a grin. “Thanks dad but I gotta go”. She said before running out the house. “Ah, she is definitely gonna be late”.

Sonia was ecstatic. Today she was 18! She could finally start doing things on her own. She ran to school to make it on time. She barely made it on time and when she made it on time she was greeted by her friends. They all said their congratulations to her and gave her their gifts.

The day went by pretty quickly. She was already in history class, her last class before she could go home. “And that was when the great king established this colony we now know as lower Demisia…” Sonia zoned out and began looking out the window down towards the sparring grounds at the people ther—BOOM!!! There was a loud explosion then another, and another. The sky turned crimson red and she swore there were red wisps in the air.

People started crying and she saw, faintly, a gold triangle on her left hand. She ran as fast as she could. In the streets there were monsters and houses on fire and people at the houses trying to put out the fires. She ran home and saw Epona hitched to a wagon and her dad packing things into said wagon. Their dog, Wolfie, was sleeping in the back of the wagon.

“Sonia, help me pack up.”

“Dad what's happening!"

“All will be explained later."

She helped him pack up and found a painting under her father's bed. It showed 2 hylians, a goron, a zora, and a greudo. On the back of the painting there was text that said Champions Ceremony. Her dad burst into the door

“Give me that!!!"Her dad practically yelled those words.

“Dad, who are those people?"

“People you don't need to worry about.” He replied.

“Go get on the wagon we have to leave now.”

“Dad what's going on, why is the sky red?”

“All will be answered later.”

“Is that another promise you're going to break?”

“Look, I know we don't always see eye to eye, and we don't have the best relationship, but I need you to trust me.”

“Why.” She replied with a fierce look in her eyes.

“Because I love you.”

“ Fine but I better get answers, by the way, where are we going?”

“A small village nestled in the hills south of here, by the name of Kakariko.”

“Kakariko? I think I read about that in history, isn't that one of the villages that existed before the great king founded Lower Demisia?”

Then Sonia saw something she never thought she would ever see, very subtlety her father flinched. She had never thought that in her whole life she would see her father flinch like an abused animal. She had seen the man cry, sure, when he got very drunk, the man was an alcoholic after all, but flinch? Never.

She brushed it off as something to do with that painting. They both got in the wagon and rode to the kingdom gates. The doors were open and people were rushing out of the city. Sonia had never been outside the city so all of the hills and the rivers shocked her. All of this green was so shocking. She wanted to explore it, all of it. As they rode down the paths, passing all of the farmland, there was something clawing at the back of her mind. What was that glowing triangle on her hand?
