Work Text:
It all started while they were working on the void escape tunnels, when a flood of players death messages began appearing on their communicators with that annoying beep sound.
Such a high number of deaths in just a few minutes was unprecedented on the Wisp smp. And because of this, Nufuli assumed that the only player capable of a thing like that at this moment was RecallingMan-or the self-proclaimed God, whichever you prefer-and that for some unknown reason, he had decided to start a massacre.
Loonac and Nufuli stopped working on the bedrock breaking machine. For a while, the two of them just stood in one place in silence, staring intently at their communicators.
Virtualdragonn has lost a life.
Slushly_ has lost a life.
Virtualdragonn has died.
Dimofyy has lost a life.
Slushly_ has died.
In the end, Lunak was the first to break the silence.
"Should we go?"
Lunak sounded unsure.
Nufuli glanced at him, then looked back at his communicator screen, watching as players were not only losing their lives but also getting banned. If this was Recalling, they had to go, otherwise, innocent players would pointlessly die. (And they would lose their chance to try fight the God.)
"We should probably go."
When they arrived at the scene of the slaughter, only one player was left alive, Dimofyy, and he was down to his last life.
Through their combined efforts and an invisibility potion, they managed to escape from the God and even save their new teammate's life. However, in exchange, Nufuli lost one of his three lives.
Nufuli had never really thought about how dangerous it actually was. For him, for his friends.
The second incident occurred when Loonac and Nufuli returned to work on their void escape tunnels.
When Loonac had finally broke the bedrock, just for fun, Nufuli decided to put on his elytra and fly out into the void through a small hole in the bedrock that the snowman had recently made. After a couple of minutes of worrying about his friend, Loonac, following Nufuli decided to try flying under the bedrock too.
Who could have known that at that exact moment, a certain annoying God would decide to teleport to them and seal up their exit, leaving them stranded in the endless void?
Neither the snowman nor the water dragon thought too much about this incident, simply because they didn't have the time to do so.
And when Dimofyy left to the Nether, saying, "I just need to check something," leaving them alone at their base, Nufuli and Loonac didn't know what to do with the free time they had.
For the past few weeks, their lives had consisted entirely of rushing somewhere, constantly being on the run from RecallingMan, fighting, and trying to survive. They had absolutely no time left to even rest.
That was exactly why they unanimously decided that, for tonight, they had had enough of these Gods.
The snowman was half-reclining on a sofa in a small library area. He sometimes wondered why Nufuli even had such a place in his base, as Lunak had never caught the water dragon reading anything. But now, it seemed he had his answer: it was for peaceful moments like this, when nothing was chasing you (at least for tonight).
Nufuli was lying with his head on the snowman's lap, his eyes closed, somewhat relaxing for the first time since they had first encountered the self-proclaimed god.
Nufuli let out a heavy sigh.
Even now, the only thing crossing his mind was Recalling, the player-God who had been hunting his team for weeks.
Now that he could finally analyze all their encounters in a calm environment, he couldn't help but remember every situation where his friends and he himself had been on the brink of death because of this God. Both Nufuli and Dimofyy had already lost lives because of RecallingMan.
And.. What if Lunak had died because of the god?
What if Dimofyy had died because of the god?
What if he and Lunak hadn't been able to get out from under the bedrock?
What if...
Nufuli shifted his head slightly to the side. 'Gosh. You can never relax, can you?' He thought, as he tried to push these intrusive thoughts away atleast until Dimofyy returned from the Nether. Such things were best discussed and figured out with all members of their team.
Meanwhile, Loonac was lazily playing with Nufuli's hair, running his fingers through the strands and combing his locks.
It was nice to do nothing, to just lie on the couch with his friend, having a small chat about simple things, or just sitting in comfortable silence.
During this comfortable silence, while Nufuli was deep in his own thoughts, Loonac noticed a small braid behind his friend's ear. It was made of pale turquoise (teal?) coloured hair, unlike his friend's usually brown hair.
"Nufuli? Did you dye your hair or something?"
Snapped out of the depths of his thoughts, Nufuli lazily opened his eyes and looked up at Loonac.
"Huh?"
"The... pale-teal braid in your hair? I've never seen it before."
Nufuli fell silent for a moment, thinking about how to answer.
"It's a strand of hair from my... former teammate. I asked him for it once, you know, to exchange strands so I'd have something of his. It's kind of like how you, I, and Dimofyy made matching chestplates."
Nufuli instinctively touched the braid, messing with it a little.
"It's like, a trust gesture."
He lowered his hand and closed his eyes again.
"I see. That's nice."
Loonac thought it was a very cute gesture, considering it was Nufuli. He had noticed that the water dragon always kept sentimental items from his friends; he could even swear he had seen HelloWhatsUp's shield in one of the chests once.
At some point, Loonac absentmindedly began braiding multiple small plaits into his friend's hair, smoothing them out, and braiding them again.
The snowman became so absorbed in this mindless task that he didn't even notice when his friend fell asleep. Nufuli's body was even more relaxed, and his breathing became rhythmic.
When he finally realized it, Loonac smiled as he finished tying the last braid, which he had placed on the opposite side of the strand from Nufuli's teammate.
Loonac took the yellow bow off his hat and untied it, leaving just a yellow ribbon. Then, he used the ribbon to tie the braid in Nufuli's hair.
Carefully Loonac inspected his work. He then followed Nufuli's example, closing his eyes and wrapping his arms around his sleeping friend.
He would probably ask Dimofyy later for some little item that he could give to Nufuli. That would be nice.
