Summary:

Being Chairman means Leon has certain duties he has to do, such as Gym Inspections from time to time to see how they're doing and if they need any assistance. Which means that today is take your kids to work day for Leon and Raihan, and work becomes more play than anything else

Notes:

Well it's certainly been a bit huh?

I didn't forget about the silly dragon man! I've been busy writing my other fics along with AUs and life in general. Buuuuut, this fic is a lot longer than the others I've done for the series so hopefully that makes up for it! With more fluff too since the family's gone through some angst lately.

Thank you all for taking the time to read my fics and those who have taken the time to leave comments and kudos too!

I hope you enjoy!

Work Text:

The day for Leon’s Gym Inspections had arrived and Hop was sitting on the couch impatiently waiting for him. It had been around a week since the Oleana incident and it had been Raihan to point out they needed Leon to do his Chairman duties so that way they could avoid another visit from the woman. Hop sincerely hoped she never did given how Leon still growls at even the mention of her…

The clacking sound of heeled boots made Hop jump from his mulling. He turned to see Leon make his entrance into the living room.

“I’m still not used to your wearing that.” Hop pointed out as his brother strode in wearing his Battle Tower outfit. It was really fancy, proper, and his big brother looks super cool in it! Like a true Chairman! It’s just so… different from what he was known for.

Leon twirled around dramatically, giving a pose as he moved his hands to his hips with a chuckle. “Well, did you think that all I wore was my Champion Uniform? Come on now Hophip you know me better than that!”

Hop shrugged with a hum. “I mean… that’s practically all you did wear…”

He gave a startled laugh as his brother suddenly was in front of him and bumped their heads together.

“Of course you take this as an opportunity to tease me. You little rascal…” Leon chuckled.

“But I’m you’re little rascal.” Hop grinned gleefully. Leon beamed bright with a sparkle in his eye.

“That’s right you are!”

Leon’s arms wrapped around him in a big hug, giving his cheek a nuzzle. Only to press his lips against Hop’s cheek to blow a playful raspberry that had Hop sputter in startled cackle of laughter.

“Lee hehehe!”

“There’ll be more of that if you keep teasing me!” Leon purred, gripping his face as he tugged Hop’s head down and pressing a kiss to the top of his head.

Hop giggled, his heart feeling light and warm. A complete contrast to how it had been lately.

Ever since Leon had opened up, he and Hop had become closer than ever. Which was saying a lot because he and his brother had already gotten closer since the Eternatus connection had happened…

Hop couldn't deny, he loved it.

“Well, well, you’re all dressed and ready eh?”

Rain’s playful teasing voice made them look to see the man striding over, an easy smile on his face.

“Yeah!” Leon beamed. “Are you ready to have your Gym Inspection today Raihan?”

The Gym Leader let out a chuckle. “Ready? Of course I’m ready, I’m the great Raihan.” He winked. “I know my Gym will be in top shape for it. It always is after all.”

As the two chuckled, Hop smiled to Gloria as she gleefully dashed over to him.

“You get ready quicker than Raihan…” Hop whispered playfully in her ear. The girl had been ready hours ago and had spent the time waiting for other man in the training room playing with her Pokémon.

Gloria snickered. “I know, he’s worse than my mom…”

“What was that?” A playful growl from the shadow suddenly looming over her.

“Uh oh…” She murmured, only to squeal in laughter as Raihan easily scooped her up and threw her over his shoulders.

“I thought you knew better manners kiddo!” Raihan laughed as he began walking towards the door, opening it with his foot.

“Put me down you mean lizard!” Gloria giggled, lightly smacking at his back. Raihan let out an exaggerated gasp.

“Lizard? Lizard?! Oh! Oh okay! Just for that you’re staying up there till we get to the ground floor!”

“Nooooooooo!” The girl cried dramatically as they left through the door. Her shouts and his laughter echoed the hall until the door closed shut, silencing it.

Leon’s warm chuckle made Hop look back in surprise. “I always thought Raihan would be a good older brother.” His eyes shone with joy for the other man just as bright as his smile. “I’m glad he and Gloria have each other.”

Hop smiled and nodded. “Yeah me too.”

Now Gloria had someone who could watch out for her and her the same like him and Lee.

A heavy hand laid on his head and ruffled his hair wildly making Hop laugh.

“Now c’mon! We better get moving so we can get my Chairman work done!” Leon laughed, throwing an arm around him and tugging him close as they walked out to begin their day.

Their first visit was to Milo. It was actually Hop’s idea to try and visit each trainer how the Challenge would go. That way it’d be easier to keep track where they needed to go. (Because despite everything his brother was still utterly rubbish with direction)

The Gym Leader was out in the fields tending to his Pokémon. He perked as they approached, turning and giving them all a smile and wave.

“Hey there all! I’ll be there in just a jiffy!”

Hop meanwhile, couldn't stop himself jumping with glee as he saw the multiple herds of Wooloo happily rolling around.

If there was anything he missed about Postwick, the Wooloo Fields had to be it. It had always been his favorite spot to sit down and watch the adorable Pokémon folic and enjoy their day. It was also a place that brought Hop a lot of fond nostalgia, since it was the very place his older brother had caught Wooly for him.

“If you want you could go and play with the Pokémon here.”

Hop jumped at Milo’s voice suddenly being close by. Actually really close by as the Farmer had now made it right in front of them.

The kind smile that was always on his face was warm as he motioned towards the Pokémon. “They’re all tame and love attention. So I’m sure they’d love it if you kids wanted to play with them!”

Hop and Gloria gasped, sharing a look before beaming and nodding wildly.

Milo chuckled and opened the gate and Hop all but bolted through.

“Wooloo’s!” Hop cheered with joy and bounded down the hill. It didn’t matter if he saw the coolest Pokémon of all time, Wooloo’s would always be his absolute favorite Pokémon in the world.

The little Pokémon all perked and happily bleated as Hop gleefully rolled down the hill leading him right to center of the Pokémon herd.

As the kids enjoyed their time with the Pokémon, Raihan quietly followed along with Leon and Milo. He vaguely listened to the two’s chatter as they walked around the Gym grounds.

He was sure Leon could handle this part on his own. The man had come to know all the Gym Leaders well thanks to the many years of being Champion. The main reason Raihan had decided to join at all was to ensure that they could keep the… well dragon secret under wraps.

The Gym Leaders had already taken to the idea that as of late the newest Chairman had been ill which was why they had set the rules of letting anyone know before they arrived to his home.

It wasn’t that they didn’t trust the others… it was just a secret like this was easier to keep the fewer people knew about it. Oleana arriving at Leon’s home had been a surprise, and one that reminded them all how careful they needed to be.

Raihan didn’t exactly trust the woman, and if she ever found out while he wasn't exactly sure what would happen… he knew it would be bad news.

“Raihan come look at this!”

He jumped at the delighted cry of the Chairman, only to realize they had made it back to the fields where they had met up with Milo earlier. As he strode over to the two men he could see bright amusement on the farmer’s and absolute joy on Leon’s.

‘What could have cause that?’

He followed the direction to where the Chairman was pointing…

And Raihan couldn’t hold back the warm laughter that escaped him from the sight before them.

Gloria was currently being snuggled and giving many, many puppy kisses by the litter of Yampers. Her delighted happy squeals were loud and shrill and gosh Raihan thought that had to be the cutest noise he’s ever heard. The only thing to compete would be Hop’s own squeals and downright gleeful cackles of laughter.

The boy was currently being absolutely cuddled in a cloud of soft cuddly Wooloo’s who were taking turns nuzzling and giving him little licking kisses as well.

“Take a picture! Take a picture! Take a picture!” Leon demanded with glee, smacking Raihan’s arms wildly until the man took his phone out.

“Alright, alright…” Raihan chuckled. “I was going to anyways, and you have a camera too you know.”

“Yes, but you take better shots than I do!” Leon told him simply. “And I want the absolute best shots of this! I want fifty copies!”

“Fifty?!” Raihan barked a laugh. “You sure you don’t want to round that up to a hundred?”

“Hmm… no because if we see something else to take photos of I want plenty of space for it in my home and office!” Leon beamed, not taking the hint he was joking.

Raihan just sighed fondly and made sure to take many photos of the adorable scenes of their hatchlings below. Once done he saw Milo give them a tip of his hat.

“You all are welcome to stay as long as you like! I’m going to go take care of our grass type Pokémon, it was nice seeing you all again!”

“You too.” Raihan nodded with an easy smile. Considering how relaxed Milo was it surely meant the man had passed. No surprise at all.

Once Milo was gone a loud rumbling sound rippled the air near him. Raihan knew it in an instant thanks to constantly being around it so often.

“Goodness Leon you’re so loud with glee over here you’ll make the tractors jealous!”

Leon was purring again. So hard he was shaking, but the happy smile on his face proved even further he was just as overjoyed as Hop was.

“Seeing my Hop happy makes me happy.” Leon purred. Raihan chuckled warmly.

“Yeah thats something’s that’s never changed for you.”

Over the years growing up with a rival like Leon, he had come to know the man well. Such as how much Hop meant to him, and how guilty he felt being away from him so often. Raihan knew the time the two brothers were spending now meant the world to the man and seeing Leon this happy was a wonderful sight for sure.

He paused before giving a grin. “Hey Leon?”

“Hm?”

“Why don’t you join the Wooloo cuddle pile? I seem to recall you loving that at Hop’s age too.”

Leon perked and for a moment he looked eager, before he calmed. “Ah, but I want Hop to enjoy it.”

“Who said you have to steal it from Hop?” Raihan grinned wider as Leon turned to him cruiously. “Listen you love Wooloo cuddle piles.”

“I do.”

“And you love cuddling your Hop.”

Leon smiled and nodded. “I do.”

“Then picture this.” Raihan closed his eyes and held out his hands. “You in the wooloo pile while, while you got hold of your hatchling at the same time. So you’d not just be getting wooloo cuddles, you’d be getting Hop cuddles too. Double the win for your both.”

He opened his eyes as he heard the slow excited gasp next to him, and snorted as he saw Leon practically glowing from how many happy and eager sparkles were around him and in his eyes.

“Raihan…” Leon breathed.

“Yeah?”

Leon suddenly grabbed his hands and waved them up and down together. “You’re a genius!” He cried.

Leon let go of his hands and bolted down with hill letting out a joyful yell as he dove into the pile.

Hop yelped in surprise, only for it to morph into even louder giggles that chorused with Leon’s.

“Lee hehehehe! You're squashing me!”

“That’s the idea Hoppy!”

Raihan stood up and smiled as he watched Leon enjoying the cuddle pile all while clutching Hop tight to his chest to cuddle him as well. The wooloo had taken to him joining with ease, making sure to give both equal attention that had the brothers laughing in delight.

The absolute utter glee and elation on the man’s face was worth taking plenty of photos of.

So of course Raihan did…

As he did Gloria finally made her way back up the hill. A little Yamper was in her arms happily enjoying the ride as she made it to his side. At her curious expression Raihan motioned below, and he chuckled as she smiled brightly at the brothers’ antics.

“It’s nice to see them so happy.” Gloria hummed. Raihan nodded.

“After all the stress they’ve been through lately they deserve it.”

Given how competitive she could get when it came to Milo, she was certain to make her Gym be even more ready and impressive.

Nessa didn’t have a giant field of Wooloo, but she did have plenty of pools for her water Pokémon to allow them to happily swim around and play. Not only that but Hop’s favorite part being the trail challenge involving her water puzzles!

Though as Hop got started on one…

“YEEEEEEAH!”

Leon’s crow of delight was followed by a very loud splash. Hop turned to the pool with wide eyes, only to laugh as he saw his brother in the water with a big grin on his face.

“Felt like taking a dip Lee?” Hop teased as he walked over and knelt down. His brother laughed merrily.

“The Pokémon were all having so much fun I couldn't help but want to join!” Leon’s grin suddenly became eager. “Hey! C’mon in Hop! The water’s great!”

Hop smiled. Okay it did seem pretty fun to jump into the pool but…

“I’m not done with this puzzle yet.” Hop motioned to what he had been working on earlier.

“Oh?” Leon tilted his head. “Let me see…”

Leon swam closer, bobbing up to peer at what Hop was talking about. As Hop turned his head, he stiffened as he saw a mischievous gleam in the older’s eyes.

Oh no, it was a trap…

“W-wait Lee I still got my coat ooooooon-!” His shout turned into a yelp as Leon all too gleefully threw his arms around him and yanked him into the pool.

Leon bellowed in laughter, easily floating in the water as he kept a tight hold on Hop to ensure he wouldn't go under.

As the shock wore off, Hop groaned in dismay. “Lee… this coat’s gonna take forever to dry off now…”

Leon just gave him a cheeky grin, using his legs to propel them further away from the ledge.

“Oh c’mon Hopscotch… enjoy the water with me!”

“I can’t my coat’s feels like it weighs ten pounds…” Hop grumbled. Leon snickered.

“Well, throw it over there! It’s handled worse than getting a little wet!”

Hop sighed fondly. Of course Lee would know. Hop’s beloved coat had originally been his older brother’s before he handed it down to him. It part of why he loved it so much.

It was also why he was a little upset at the possibility of it getting ruined. Even if water couldn’t do that, with Hop’s luck he’s sure there’d be a way.

“Hey…” Hop complained as his brother easily tugged the coat off and tossed it back to the ledge.

“We can dry it off later, now c’mon!” Leon began swimming them further to the center of the pool. “Let’s have some fun!”

‘Fun eh…?’ Hop glanced at the water and grinned. ‘Okay then!’

With a snicker, Hop slammed a palm into the pool making a small splash go at his older brother’s face.

Leon sputtered in surprise, only to look back at him with a gleeful grin. “Oh....ohohoho it is on!”

Within seconds they had fallen into a splash fight. It didn’t take long for Lee to overpower him much like he always could, but that didn’t stop Hop from getting a few splashes back in. It also didn't take away from the light feeling he had in his heart and laughter that echoed between the two of them.

By the time Raihan, Gloria and Nessa had gotten back from chatting their splash battled had already ended with the older winning. They had found Leon lazily floating on his back in the water with a content smile on his face while Hop sat on his middle. How he didn’t even cause his brother to sink at all doing so surprised him.

He had to surmise it was just another one of his brother’s perks of his new abilities.

“Wow I knew Leon was strong but that is some impressive core strength!” Nessa gasped. Raihan causally tried to take her attention away to try to avoid her thinking any more of it. It was a good thing he did because Hop’s not sure how they’d be able to explain Leon’s happy purring.

Kabu’s Gym was just as humid as Hop remembered. Thankfully Hop wasn't having to run around catching Pokémon in this kind of climate. Instead he was able to enjoy sitting down and enjoy the area of the Gym where it was the most comfortable with Gloria by his side.

Lee meanwhile…

“You can do it! You can do it Chairman!” Kabu’s determined shout was loud even from all across the Gym where he and Leon were currently taking a jog. His brother was, unsurpisignly, handling it amazingly well.

“Leon hasn’t been able to do things like this in years…” Raihan’s casual hum made them look to the man in surprise.

“What do you mean?” Gloria asked curiously.

Raihan shrugged. “Things like this… Being able to spend time with people like the Gym Leaders. Let loose and relax. Being Champion took all his time of being able to do anything but.”

As he stared at the Chairman, Hop could see his expression soften just a tad. “I bet he’s remembering the day when we did the challenge and Kabu shouted this same sort of thing.”

Hop blinked and looked back at his brother.

Leon had a bright grin on his face as he easily kept up with the older man. There was a gleeful shine in his eyes that hadn’t really gone away the moment they had started the Gym Inspections.

‘I knew Lee was too busy to come home or spend time with me…’ Hop thought. ‘But I didn’t think he wouldn't have time to do anything else…’

It… actually made him sad thinking about that. Especially because his brother looked so happy right now…

He only really had that look when he was battling as far as Hop could tell.

He could feel Raihan’s gaze on him and once he looked to the man, the Dragon Gym Leader gave him a smile.

“You know, he looks like that when he spends time with you too.” He stated.

Hop’s eyes widened. “Huh?”

Raihan merely looked back to the Chairman saying nothing more. Hop mentally huffed in frustration that the man had left him hanging. Yet as he looked back to his brother happily following Kabu, Hop couldn’t help but wonder if what Raihan said was true.

…. He really hoped so…

Their trip to Bea and Alister’s Gyms were quick and easy. Another workout with Bea and a gentle, kind conversation with the youngest Gym Leader made their trip to their gyms rather fast…

Which meant the next stop was the Fairy Gym…. and the one Hop was the least excited to visit.

All because of one person in particular…

“This place is so pretty…” Gloria hummed as she gazed at the glowing mushrooms. “You don’t even need the sun here with all these lights!”

“Yeah, it’s not a bad place.” Raihan hummed with his hands in his pockets. “Not the best place for my team though.”

“Oh right because typing.” Gloria chuckled. “Don’t worry, I can help keep your team safe.” She playfully nudged him with a giggle.

Raihan snorted and rolled his eyes with an affectionate smile. “I’m sure you can Champ…”

Further back behind them was Leon, who was happily enjoying the curious Pokémon’s attention of the Tangle. Seeing a multitude of them surrounding him as he laughed made Hop smile. Even more so as he heard his brother let out grunts and croons back to them from time to time.

‘I wonder what they’re saying…’

“Ahem…” Hop jumped with his brother as Raihan’s loud throat clearing cut off whatever Lee was saying.

“Oop! Sorry but I need to get going.” Leon chuckled. “It was nice seeing you all again!” He stated warmly before letting out a few sounds like before to them.

The Pokémon all let out happy cries and chirps back as Leon strode back to the group and at Hop’s side. Once close enough Leon playfully bumped his hip against him. Thanks to his strength it made Hop stumble only a bit, and it didn’t stop him from nudging his brother back earning a laugh from the man.

Yet as they continued down the path the lightheartedness Hop felt dwindled as the Gym loomed ahead.

This was going to be the first time he’s seen Bede since the Championship Tournament. The first time since Hop had admitted to Leon what had happened between the two…

… Suddenly he wasn't so sure he could handle it right now.

Hop stopped in his tracks as they others continued onward. Yet Leon stopped after a few steps ahead and swiftly turned around to look at him with a concerned furrowing brow.

Blast, his brother really sensed him not near him that quick?

“Hop?” Leon started.

“Er… how about I stay out here while you do this?”

It’s not that Hop was scared of Bede, absolutely not. It was just…

Hop wasn't sure how well he’d handle seeing him again. He already tended to lose his temper when it came to the fairy type user and he certainly didn't need to do that when Lee was doing something important. He’d make him look bad, he’d cause problems he’d… he’d…

…Uh oh…

“Ah!” Hop yelped as he felt a large hand suddenly clasp onto his and begin to pull him back. Turning his head he saw it was his brother.

Leon dragged him away until they were behind a glowing mushroom. Once there, his older brother grabbed his face and held it firmly as he started in his eyes with a fierce, determined expression.

“Hop… I am so proud of you. I am proud of you and I love you so much…”

Hop’s eyes widened and he felt his throat tighten. Lee must've realized what had been holding him back.

The older’s hands squished his cheeks as his eyes blazed pink with fierce affection. “So whatever he said, whatever he might possibly say…. remember what I’m telling you right now. You are not ever going to lose me. You are not ever, ever going to make me stop loving you. Nothing ever will make that happen…”

Hop bit his lip and nodded shakily. Leon pressed their foreheads together in response, closing his eyes as Hop did the same.

They stood there for a moment. The only sound between them was Lee’s soothing purrs. They didn’t need more words. Just the comfort and reassurance of each other’s presence and their deep bond.

Finally, after a kiss pressed against his head did Leon pull back. He took Hop’s hand and gave it a squeeze. Hop didn't complain as his brother pulled him along and soon they were finally inside.

From beyond Leon’s back, Hop could hear Bede’s voice. He was chatting with Gloria and is sounded as posh as ever. Yet despite that Hop had to admit he didn’t sound as haughty as the last he had spoken to him.

Hop risked peeking out from his brother, only to stiffened along with the new Gym leader as their eyes locked.

“You-“ Bede began in a mutter.

“Hop is going to be joining me today.” Leon stated, voice filled with finality as he pulled Hop to his side and squeezed him close.

“I expect for you as Gym Leader to accept something like this with grace.” Leon went on, a stern warning in his tone towards Bede. His expression held it too and Hop was genuinely surprised to see the Gym Leader actually close his eyes and turn away.

No fights, no barbed jabs, just acceptance…

Though Hop had a feeling he was frustrated Hop had to even be here in the first place. He wouldn't dare show it given how Leon kept a protective arm around his brother the whole time as the inspection went on.

It was no surprise the Gym was in good shape. Bede may be rather mean but Hop could imagine him having this position made him want everything connected to it look it’s best. It being a reflection of him after all…

His Gym Challenge wasn’t like Opal’s, it was more straightforward and too the point of battling the Gym’s trainers without the whole stage play. Not that Hop minded, sometimes the simplest thing was best and from Leon’s nodding he didn’t seem to mind either.

Soon enough their tour was done and Leon gave Bede a pass. The young Gym Leader tried to hide it, but Hop could see the relief flood in his expression when Leon had said it.

As they stepped outside and walked further away from the Gym only then did Leon finally let his arm over Hop go. Not before giving him as quick warm squeeze. As Hop watched his brother perk and walk to Raihan as the man called him over to talk alone he was startled to hear Bede from behind him.

“… You didn’t ruin this for me…” His words made his eyes widen as he turned to the boy.

Bede didn’t look angry, more confused than anything. “This would have been the perfect opportunity for you to do so… Especially given your brother’s new status and…” His eyes flicked between him and Hop. “… Your closeness. After everything I did...”

“…I wouldn't do that.” Hop frowned and crossed his arms feeling insulted.

Did he seriously think he’d do something so petty? Hop would never…!

Yet… despite feeling frustrated Hop took a breath and slowly let it out.

“Listen Bede, you’re a good trainer.” He began. “And I think you can do great for this Gym. Opal thinks so and she’s one tough cookie.”

It was quick, but the mention of the elderly woman caused a flash of something fond in Bede’s eyes. Hop decided not to dwell on it.

“Whatever happened between us… I wish you the best. I know you’ll do good.” He finished.

Bede didn’t say anything, no compliment back or good wishes. He also didn’t insult him or send him a hateful look even as Hop turned and walked away, so if anything it was progress.

It felt… kind of nice to be able to move on from all of it. To really make peace about that incident.

As Hop made it to Raihan and Gloria he suddenly noticed his brother wasn’t in sight, only to yelp as he was suddenly yanked off to the side behind a glowing mushroom. The same one he had hidden behind with his brother earlier…

Strong arms were around him and squeezing him tight to a rumbling chest as he felt his brother press his face into his hair.

“L-Lee? Are you okay?”

“I am so proud of you…” Leon’s voice was a whisper into his head.

Hop blinked in surprise. Proud…? “But… I didn’t do anything…”

Leon snuggled him more. “Yes, you did, you handled all of that so amazingly… You’re amazing.” He pressed a kiss to his head and squeezed him tighter.

“… I’m so proud, so proud…”

Hop smiled and couldn't stop himself from nuzzling into the hug as much as he could to show just how much those words meant to him. Leon purred even louder in response.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Hop couldn’t deny, visiting Melony’s Gym was intimidating at first.

Melony was kind yes, but when it came her work she took it very seriously. Which meant no messing around or playing in the snow… no matter how much Hop really wanted to because it looked like so much fun…

So he kept close to his brother and tried to keep on his best behavior, though it seemed he hadn’t had anything to worry about because someone else was on Melony’s sights for acting out…

“Honestly Raihan, you are a noble Gym Leader, why is it you still insist to slouch?” The woman scolded.

Raihan blinked at her, his expression giving away he very much felt like he wanted to go home. “Melony-“

“Don’t start with this ‘Melony' business, you did this even when you were a little scamp!” The woman stated with a huff. “Don’t think I didn’t forget all those times you visited to spend time with my Gordie.”

Leon meanwhile had his mouth covered looking like he was desperately trying to hold down his laughter. Probably because he’d get scolded next if he wasn’t careful, him being Chairman or otherwise. Gloria by Raihan’s side was doing a better job, but Hop could see from the mirth dancing in her eyes that she was finding all of this hilarious…

Though as someone who knows what it’s like to be on the receiving end of a scolding, no matter how much kinder Melony sounded compared to his and Lee’s Mum, Hop couldn't share the humor. He decided to instead to look back to where the snow banks.

The Ice Type Pokémon were very merrily playing down them. Even Lapras was sliding down the banks with a happy cry before diving back into the water. It looked like a blast…

“Why don’t you go play?”

“H-huh?” Hop jumped at the suddenly voice by his ear. He looked up to see Lee smiling down at him knowingly. “What? Lee I can’t!”

His eyes darted to Melony fearfully. The last thing he wanted was to make her mad.

Lee’s eyes darted to the woman and then back to him with a gentle warmth. “I’m sure she wouldn’t mind you playing with the Pokémon Hopscotch.”

“I-I don’t-“

“Gym Leader Melony.” Leon called to her attention, making the woman pause. When she turned to them Hop stiffened feeling a sense of dread through him.

“Yes Chairman?”

“Would you be alright with my brother going to play with your Pokémon on the snow?” Leon asked kindly. Hop jumped as he felt his large hands clasp his shoulders and give them a gentle squeeze. “Perhaps Gloria too?”

Hop became frozen as if he had been inflicted by the status move itself as her eyes moved to him.

He wasn’t sure why Melony herself made Hop so nervous… She hadn’t ever been anything but kind to him. Maybe it was just that feeling of not wanting to upset or disappoint her…

Like Hop usually did with their-

“Of course you two can!” Melony said with a laugh and warm smile. “You two have been so well behaved! Plus I know my sweeties would love the attention and play!”

Hop’s jaw dropped while Gloria gasped with glee.

Wait… really?

Leon suddenly leaned over him and hovered his face by his ear. “I told you, you really need to start believing to me~” His brother stated playfully. “Now go on, have fun.” He added warmly.

Hop felt him gently urge him along while Gloria happily ran out with a cheer. It took Hop a few steps forward to shake his shock, before he followed after her was a gleeful laugh.

Like Melody had said the Pokémon had seemed more than happy to see them and have them join their fun. Hop had happily taken to the small Snom since it reminded him of his beloved Pinchurin, holding it on his head as he slid down the large hills with Gloria behind him.

Melony’s Frosmoth was always there to help them back to their feet and Hop wasn't surprise to feel that the fur on the Pokémon was just as soft as he thought.

Even Lapras was happy to give them rides in the water, swimming around back and forth in speed and grace.

Before long, Lee’s voice was calling them back. Gloria and Hop jogged back over to the tohers.

Gloria quickly got to Raihan’s side, beaming up at the mean who looked relieved to get a move on. Yet he playfully nudged her as her smile became more teasing, earning a snicker of laughter.

As Hop made it to his brother and the Gym Leader, Leon finished his conversation with the woman to looked back to him. Whatever he saw caused the man to laugh lightly.

“What?” Hop tilted his head blinking.

Leon stepped closer and motioned to his body. “It looks like you had fun!”

Hop looked down and let out a laugh of his own. His clothes, manly his jacket had snow clinging onto it making him look like he was wearing a white coat.

Now that he was standing still he could feel some of the snow holding onto his face and hair too.

“Whoops…”

As Hop moved to wipe it away, but his brother suddenly bent down and began helping him do it himself. A few pats and swipes over his jacket only to move onto his face and head. Hop kept still as Leon’s large hand gently rubbed away the bits of snow clinging onto his face before moving both hands to his hair and fluffing his hair out enough to do the same there.

Once Hop felt the last bits of chilliness gone, Leon’s hands moved back to gently press against Hop’s cheeks.

Lee himself stared down at him with an expression that made Hop even warmer inside, like a happy glow.

“I’m glad you had fun.” Leon hummed warmly before leaning down and pressing a kiss on his head.

The warm feeling spread from his chest and Hop couldn't hold back the happy laugh that escaped him. As Leon pulled back he chuckled back just as happy.

“I need to thank the Pokémon too, hang on Hophip.”

As his brother let him go and strode over where the Pokémon were still gathered Hop suddenly realized he was alone with Melody thanks to her stare.

Embarrassment suddenly flooded through him, only to pause as he noticed her stare had nothing but kindness in it… and nostalgia.

“My, my, I always knew he loved you so dearly but it warms my heart to see just how much…” She lightly clapped her hands together with a gentle laugh. “Especially the way he looked at you.”

Hop blinked in confusion. “What do you mean?”

“Hop dear…” Melony looked to him with a knowing smile and twinkle in her eye. “I’m a mother, so if there’s anyone who knows that particular look it would be I.” She chuckled warmly as she glanced at the man before back to Hop. The shine in her eyes were even brighter now

“He gazed at you the same way I do my Gordie.”

Hop’s eyes widened. “Really…?” He looked back to see his brother kneeling down the Pokémon, speaking to them and nodding as they gave their own cries back.

Lee… gazed at him like a Mum? Their Mum never looked at Hop the way Lee did…

And yet Lee… well Hop’s seen his brother give him that same kind of look before even before his connection to Eternatus. Except, he’s been seeing it a lot more lately… Even without the pink glow in his eyes.

‘… I wonder… what that means…’

Hop had forgetten just how loud Spikemuth could be. From the music to the residents being rather rowdy, it was slightly chaotic.

A fun chaotic though…

Hop supposes the fact that the city had a roof over it’s head 24/7 added to the volume making everything so much louder…

Leon’s groan made Hop stiffen and turn back.

His brother was clutching his head, hands pressing against his ears as the shouts and cheers became particuarly loud.

“Lee!” Hop gasped, rushing to his side and gently gripping his arm. “Lee what’s wrong?”

“… So… loud…” Leon rasped. “Too loud…” He curled over and trembled slightly. “Don’t feel so… good…”

Hop sucked in a sharp breath. ‘His senses…’ They had completely forgotten how much stronger they had become thanks to the connection. If his sense of smell was stronger that had to meant his hearing was too and that meant…

“C’mon Lee…” Hop murmured, gently guiding his brother down the path. He paused by the Dragon Gym leader as he quickly looked at the Chairman with shock and concern.

“Raihan I need to take Lee out of here for a moment.” Hop told him, raising his voice slightly over the noise. As one Team Yell grunt gave a screaming shout Hop could feel Leon cringe.

Raihan’s expression hardened and he nodded in understanding. Hop nodded back and continued to help guide his brother down the path. It wasn't long before they were finally able to step back into the light.

Hop continued to help guide his brother until they were a few feet away from the entrance. Once far enough Leon let out a soft sigh of relief.

“You okay now Lee?” Hop asked him gently.

“Much better…” Leon murmured, straightening his back with another sigh. “I haven’t been there in so long I had forgotten it could be.”

“Yeah, I’m sure it wasn’t nice for your hearing.” Hop murmured, making sure to keep his voice soft and low.

“Mrgh…” Leon moved a hand to his head with a strained expression. “It wasn’t just that I… felt so drained…I-“

A long growling rumble from Leon’s middle cut him off and the man’s hands moved to where it sounded from with a grimace

“Ogh… I feel famished…”

“Hang on Lee!” Hop gasped, throwing down his back he had been carrying with him all day. “I made sure to bring snacks in case you needed to restore your energy!”

His brother had been going at it all day without eating, they all had but Hop was even more worried for his brother.

Lee seemed to go through a lot of energy, along with pots of curry to help fuel it.

“Here! Take all of it!” Hop held up the back filled with different types of snacks and treats.

Leon looked to it, before looking to Hop with tired concerned eyes. “You haven’t eaten anything either though…”

“That’s okay!” Hop smiled. “You need to recharge Lee!”

Leon stared at him longer before shaking his head. “I’m not eating all this unless you have something too.”

“Lee…”

Leon turned his head away with a stubborn frown. Hop sighed at the action, but he knew his brother well. Leon wasn't going to have anything unless Hop showed he had some food too.

“Okay, okay I’ll take some of these.” Hop took two bags and held out the rest to his brother. Leon eyed the food in his hand before giving Hop a stern look. Hop sighed again this time out of frustration

“Lee-!”

“More than that.” The man stated stubbornly. “You haven't had anything all day you need more.”

“Ugh…” Hop took a few more bags out. As he held up his bag again Leon eyed it again skeptically.

“Lee please just take the food I promise I’ll eat too just please…” He looked up to him beggingly. “I’m worried about you…”

Leon’s expression softened and the man gave a sigh. “Okay Hophip.” He took the bag and gave him a warm smile. “Thank you.”

Hop smiled back and nodded.

They took a spot close to the tunnel and sat on the ground. Unsurprising to Hop his brother was quick to tear into the snacks the moment the scent had hit his nose. Hop took his much slower, but was thankful to see his brother slowly start to become more energetic as they refuled.

‘That was still odd though…’ Hop thought frowning mentally. ‘Lee’s been hungry but he almost looked like he was in pain there… Like he…’

Hope’s eyes widened as a memory of the data he had seen on the screen from his brother’s last check up suddenly flashed in his mind.

Dynamax energy…

‘Lee’s practically drenched in it if those readings were right…’ Hop realized. ‘And Eternatus needs energy like that help it be nourished… and since Spikemuth doesn’t have a Dynamax energy point.’

Hop chest clenched with dread. ‘Oh gosh Lee…’

His poor brother had been in more pain in there than he had thought if Hop’s hypothesis was right. He couldn't even begin to imagine just how much…

Hop desperately tried to keep it hidden though. Lee had already gone through enough and if he saw Hop was upset he’d surely get worried. Yet as his brother finished his meal with a happy hum, the older looked to him with a curious head tilt.

“You okay?” He asked gently. Hop stiffened.

“Y-yeah…” Hop nodded. “I just…” He took a breath and let it out before giving his brother a smile. “I’m just really glad you're okay…”

Leon’s expression softened into something warm and tender. Within in seconds Hop was suddenly in his arms and squeezed tight to the Lee’s chest.

Hop grunted softly in surprise. Happy purrs rumbled against his ear as Leon curled over him and cuddled him as much as he could.

“I’m okay now Hoppy…” Leon purred warmly, nuzzling his cheek against him vigorously. “I’m okay, everything's okay…”

Hop couldn't resist nuzzling closer to his brother in relief hearing those words. The action made Leon hum happily and squeeze him tighter against him.

“…Oi….”

They jumped at the new sound, Leon’s curling around him more as if to shield him as they turned towards the sound.

Standing a little ways away was none other than the former Gym Leader Piers.

“Oh Piers…” Leon sighed, easing his grip on Hop as he relaxed. He then gave the man a bright smile. “It’s you! That’s a nice surprise!”

Piers said nothing, moving a hand to his hip and looking at the man with a frown. Leon simply tilted his head curiously and blinked, a smile still on his face.

“I know you like to do things over the top, but maybe take it down a notch when it comes to him.” He motioned to Hop. “You look like you were downright smothering him.”

Leon stiffened and Hop watched as the shock on his face morphed into something more… professional, clipped.

“Piers.Thank you for the concern…” His eyes narrowed slightly. “However… I don’t tell you how to take care of Marnie…”

Hop’s jaw dropped in shock at not just his words but his stiff tone. Where the heck had that come from?!

Piers looked surprised as well, only to close his eyes and hum. “Fair point.” He grunted. “I wouldn’t take kindly to someone doing that either.” He opened his eyes and chuckled. “I’d probably react the same.”

Leon relaxed and smiled. “Thank you.” He stood up and walked over to the former Gym Leader with his hand out to shake. His smile widened as Piers took it and did just that.

“So why’re you here?” Hop asked, not sure what to make of the exchange he had just seen.

Piers glanced at him. “This is Marnie’s first Gym Inspection, I wanted to give her support.” He smiled. “I know she’s doing a great job with it though, I can tell just from how happy Team Yell is here.”

“She is.” Leon nodded with a beam. “Spikemuth is even more lively than I seen it last! It’s like it’s been given a new breath of life!”

Piers smiled wider, a proud shine in his eyes.

“Ah so this is where you all are.”

Raihan’s casual hum made them turn to see him striding out with Marnie and Gloria behind him. Once his teal eyes saw Piers his smile widened to the point his fanged tooth was showing.

“Well, well if it isn’t Piers!”

“Oh great.” The singer sighed, sounding tired if not fond. "If it isn't Rai-Rai..."

Marnie meanwhile bolted to her brother. “I passed the inspection!” She told him, delight and relief in her voice.

Piers turned to her and smiled warmly. “Knew you could do it…” He murmured, laying a hand on her shoulder and pulling her close. His smile widened as Marnie hugged him and pressed her head against his chest with a tiny smile of her own.

Hop knew how much his faith in her meant to the girl…

As they had their moment Hop decided to risk speaking to Raihan about what had happened. He nudged the man’s arm and once he got his attention Hop began quickly explaining what had just happened. Once done Raihan closed his eyes in thought.

“Hmm…” Raihan hummed. “Seems like another Goodra situation.”

“Wha?” Hop blinked. “You mean… Lee’s jealous of Piers? That doesn’t make any sense though…”

Raihan sighed. “Hop.” He began. “You remember when those two ‘royal descendants’ came along and started causing havoc in Galar?”

Hop nodded. “Yeah…?”

“I was busy handling my own Gym, but I know Piers. That man had to have had your back the whole time yeah? Kind of taking you under his wing?”

Hop nodded, not sure where this was heading.

Raihan sighed. “Leon felt awful not being able to be there for you while all that madness was going on. Don’t get me wrong he’s thankful to Piers for watching out for you.” He added. “I’m also sure he wishes he was the one who had been there instead, especially with how much danger you had been in. Seeing Piers worry over you might have brought all that back. Add in his instincts and you have what happened.”

Hop’s eyes widened. He hadn’t even thought about that…

During that time Hop had been incredibly hard on himself and felt so lost. Piers had been great and had been wonderful help to him. Hop would always appreciate that. He just never thought that Leon would ever feel so bad about not being able to do the same as the Gym Leader…

“Hm? Hop…?” Raihan called as Hop strode over to his brother.

Leon had been speaking to Marnie as Raihan had spoken to him, only now just finished with both giving each other a nod. He perked as Hop got closer and instantly smiled brighter to him as he did.

“Hey Hopscotch!”

Hop gave him a smile before wrapping his arms around his brother’s waist and giving him a hug. He felt Leon freeze, only for his arms to wrap around him in an instant and squeeze him closer.

“What’s all this?” Leon asked curiously, though Hop could hear happiness in his tone too.

Hop shrugged. “I’m just really thankful to have you Lee. No matter what you always try to be there for me and it means a lot. I just… really appreciate you.”

Leon squeezed him tighter and Hop could hear the happy purring tickling his ears again. If Marnie heard she didn’t say anything, instead she walked over to Gloria more than happy to see her rival again as she let them have their moment.

When they landed in Hammerlocke, Leon had refused move. Even as Raihan and Gloria stepped out the man refused to move. And the second Hop had tried to step out-

“Wha!” Hop yelped as he was suddenly yanked back to Leon’s chest and squeezed tight. “L-Lee?”

Leon whined, pressing his face into his hair. Hop frowned in dismay.

“I don't think Lee wants to go…” Hop murmured as Raihan and Gloria peeked in the window.

The Gym Leader looked over the man with a sharp eye as Hop continued.

“Do you think it’s because of what happened? On that day I mean should we…”

“Nah…” Raihan let out a soft breath and chuckle. “Nah none of that kiddo…” He gave him a smile as Hop peered up at him worriedly.

“Really? Then what’s wrong…?”

Raihan looked back to the man as Leon snuggled Hop closer to him. “This is the most interaction Leon’s had with people in a while… I think our poor Chairman here’s finally had his fill of that and wants to go home.”

“Huh?” Hop blinked. “Really? That’s all? Nothing more…?”

“Nothing more…” Raihan shook his head. “Isn’t that right Leon? You want to go back home?”

Leon perked and nodded wildly, even with his face pressed against Hop’s head.

“Then we better get you back then.”

“What about your Gym?” Gloria asked with a frown. Raihan chuckled and gave her a wink.

“We can do it another day. I’d say seven Gyms in one day is enough for us all.”

As they piled back in and Raihan told the Cab driver where they were going, Hop could feel Leon begin to snuggle him close.

“Pretty worn out too…Especially if he’s not willing to talk.” Raihan hummed. “I expect you’ll be stuck with him while he takes a nap.” His eyes flicked to Hop as he said it.

Hop found himself yawning. He didn’t mind at all. After a day like today he could use a nap himself.

As he nuzzled against his brother’s chest making the older purr, Hop allowed himself to get an early start and happily slumber away.
