Work Text:
Nurse was caring for a patient, she had been working for... she lost count after her 30th patient. Head Nurse walked in with a clipboard in her hands.
"Hello, Nurse, I.." She flipped a page on her clip board, hold the page up while squinting at the page she was currently looking at "I'll take this patient as you have been working for... 5 hours straight?!"
Nurse blinked "Yeah. I'm on break now.?"
Head Nurse just stared at the other for a few beats "Actually, I'll get someone else for this patient. I'll start my break with you"
"Yes, ma'am" Nurse followed Head Nurse to the break room.
Nurse found a chair near the fridge, the broken chair creeked as she sat down, she had gotten used to people staring when that happened but Head Nurse just walked over to the cabinet, grabbing two cups and bringing them to the coffee machine.
"How do you like your coffee?" She asked as she set up the machine.
"Two spoon fulls of milk and sugar... Did you grab my cup? I only drank from that one." She added the last bit hesitantly as most were confused as all the cups were the same.
"It's the one that's chipped on the rim and handle?"
"Yes. Thank you."
Head Nurse turned at the unexpected words that came out of the others mouth, Nurse had never thanked anyone for anything, no matter how small or big. Instead of saying anything about it, Head Nurse just smiled before going back to fixing up the coffees. Head Nurse walked over with coffees, handing one over then grabbing a chair for herself. They sat there drinking their coffee in peaceful silence.
Nurse scooted her chair out of the way of the fridge door as she opened it and grabbed her lunch container that was labeled with her name. She opened the container which had three meat wraps.
"I packed too much, do you want a meat wrap?" Nurse had noticed Head Nurse staring at all the food in the fridge.
"Oh, are you sure?"
Nurse just handed over the meat wrap
They sat there until they had both finished a meat wrap, Nurse saved the last one for later. Maybe she could share the wrap with Head Nurse. They waved bye as they went their separate ways.
