Pathetic Ode To "Stardust"

Work Text:

Oh, Yvaine, how much you're loved!
Your siblings guide and Tristan follows;
he, who'd caused initial sorrow
found and bound with chains impure.

Present to a mortal, fewer'd
gone along to fulfill his wish
to please an unpleasant bitch
who wasn't worth watching.

After days alone, a touching
between two wandering hearts
bore the brightest of all stars
in a world already magic.

A happy end, a life well lived!
From spectator to queen!
As if, perhaps, it seems,
you hardly suffered. You.

I envy you, Yvaine, I do.
For less than century you could make memories,
pity the sick without ever needing remedies,
view the dying with foreign interest
play with children you can never bless,
grow a garden so endlessly wide,
feel it crumble before a breath of your life.

Sure, you're suffered, sure you've cried.
But what's a restless day to a star in darkened haven?,
Neither lonely nor without entertainment?
With sisters who share the void on a table,
like a feast, as they consume our fables?,
Our wars and fights and intriguing lies?
Yet love it was you sought to find.

Barely felt the pain of being us, sublime,
creatures of conditions you've transcended
through the gaze at desire unconditioned.
I wish I was you, returning home.

This world has no Babylon candles, no moan
or spell works its charm in fictionless reality.
But watching you star-pathed two relieves
me of a night of escaping undreamt.

A star doesn't have existential dread.
It sees the humans, and lives not by them.
No duties. Just staring. Starring. 'Til death.
No embarrassment for just being. Just being

oneself and see without believing.
Maybe, one day, I can join your ranks
and we three can form a band
and sing of beauty, life and love.

Until then, thank you. Stay safe above.
