Work Text:
Torch finished arranging the wood in the pit for the fire in a couple hours, Trench was shining her beautiful colours down on to the camp signalling that the day was almost finished.
Clancy was watching her with a keen eye, studying her every move especially the way her hair was tickling her face, it was frustrating her to watch she could barely even remember what that felt like anymore ever since completely cutting off all her hair in protest to the regime Dema forced upon her and all the other women confined in its grey prison but there was one part of long hair she loved.
She tapped Torchbearer on the shoulder.
“Hey, uhm I could help you if you want”
“Nah it's okay almost all the chores are done” Torch shot back, she wanted Clancy to rest.
Clancy giggled. “Not like that, follow me” She went back to where she was sitting with Torchbearer following her.
She sat back down and opened her legs for Torch to sit in between.
“Okay, come sit here” She beckoned Torch toward her.
Torch blushed as she got on her knees, scooting herself closer the Clancy and placing her hands on the thighs above her avoiding eye contact.
Clancy felt her face quicky burst into a rainbow of reds and pinks as she realised she hadn’t specified that Torch was supposed to sit facing away from her.
She stuttered over her words as she tried to explain her mistake.
Torch quickly apologised as she felt her face deepen the pink colour blooming across it, flipping herself around.
Clancy gently ran her fingers through the other woman's hair before slowly dragging her comb into the sea of black and red before her, she set the comb down next to her as she drew a finger down the back of her head sending a shiver down Torchbearer’s spine, she flipped one side of the parted hair over Torch’s shoulder for later turning her attention back to the side in her hand, she leaned Torch’s head back and took two small sections between her hands crossing them over each other, scooping up more with her other fingers and intertwining it with the strands she already had in her fingertips, she forgot how peaceful she found braiding hair to be, it almost made her miss having long hair, almost.
“You’re so gentle I could fall asleep” Torch giggled softly.
Clancy smiled down at her.
“Well, I wouldn’t want to hurt you, beautiful girl”
Torchbearer’s stomach fluttered, she felt the blush on her face creep back up, kissing her cheeks making her look like she had been kissed by Trench’s warm sun.
She let her head lull back into Clancy’s hands feeling her hands soothe through her hair.
Clancy finished the first braid, tying it off and turning to the other half of hair that she flipped over her shoulder starting to braid that one too.
Slowly stringing the red and black threads together watching them merge into one another, feeling her ringlets beneath her touch.
She let her mind go quiet as she worked away, not letting the thoughts of what might happen to herself in the future, that wasn't for right now.
She finished the second braid letting it slip from her grip.
“Thanks” Torch leaned all the way back to lock eyes with her.
Clancy leaned down to press a kiss to her lips.
She lifted herself up off the ground and shook her head around with a massive grin on her face.
“You’re adorable” Clancy let out a small laugh and smiled up at the girl shaking her braids around.
Torch stuck her tongue out through her teeth.
Clancy just rolled her eyes back.
------------------------------------
A few days passed and Torch’s braids were getting messy, she walked over to Clancy and wrapped her arms around her middle.
“Hey Torchie, what’s up?” She said voice bright as ever.
“Can you redo my braids? Pretty pleaseeeeeeeeee” She whined in Clancy’s ear.
Clancy let out a small chuckle and let herself be dragged away from what she was doing, it wasn’t that important anyway.
She took the hair ties off both braids and slowly let the separate in her hands, dragging her fingers through to completely free the strands, grabbing her comb and getting rid of any remaining knots in the red and black strands swimming through her fingers.
She adored the waves running down Torch’s back.
She decided on one large french braid, grabbing the sections and getting to work, allowing Torchbearer to ley her head back once more.
After a few moments Torch spoke.
“You know, this is really relaxing” She mumbled out, eyes closed.
“I know, I always liked braising hair, mine or anyone else's, it kinda lets my brain rest from thinking so much” Clancy focused on trying not to get mixed up while both talking and braiding.
She reached the end of her hair and tied it off.
“All done” She lent down and placed a kiss to the top of the other woman’s head.
“Mmm” Torch let out a content sigh, basically asleep.
Clancy rolled her eyes and smiled, pulling Torch up and into her lap before lifting her up bridal style.
She got a Bandito to zip open their tent so she could get inside placing her on to their cot, kissing her forehead.
She went to step away from the cot but felt Torch wrap her arms around her legs.
“Come nap with me” She groggily muttered.
Clancy decided that wasn’t an awful idea, getting onto the cot with her.
“You’re quite cute when you’re sleepy” She said turning over, letting her hand slip under Torch’s hoodie pulling her closer.
“Mmmm shut up” Even though her words sounded strong, she had a sleepy smile plastered on her face.
“I love you, my dear Torchie” She got close enough as to nuzzle her face into her lover's hair.
“I love you too, my dear Clancy” She pushed herself into Clancy’s chest, to feel her heartbeat against her skin.
