Work Text:
The wear and tear of holding his breath,
hiding pain,
upkeeping the paintwork
over everything rotten in that place,
in himself.
His knack for eating the world,
dazzling smile on his face,
eyes ahead,
ignoring the dangerous, the terrible,
the thing come to end you;
he got it from his mom.
The damage still took place,
unseen, disguised,
until now.
Frayed nerves, shattered psyche.
Add a broken hand,
broken heart,
broken future,
and you’ve got a facade falling apart.
A broken man stumbling up to your hotel room
at the end of his rope,
end of his hope,
nearly
gone.
