Work Text:
Damian Desmond and Anya Forger were sworn rivals. They were always arguing about something, calling each other names, and comparing grades. So when Damian walked through the Eden Academy halls and went right past Anya without saying a single word, everyone knew something was off. Maybe hell had finally freezed over.
Becky was the first to truly notice. She tackled Anya at lunch and began interrogating her.
“Why did Damian run past you this morning like you were a virus?” She yelled.
“What are you talking about?” Anya said, her voice cracking.
“You haven't argued at all today, and you haven't even tried to ask him if you can go to his house!”
“So? Just because he isn't talking to me doesn't mean something happened between us.”
“I don't believe you. Something happened, and I absolutely will not rest until I figure it out.”
Before Anya could protest more, Becky had stormed out of the lunchroom and onto whatever she was about to do. And all Anya could do was pray Becky wouldn't discover the truth, because something indeed did happen.

“Are your parents home?” Damian asked, lacing his hand with Anya’s.
The two teenagers had just come from the park, where they usually headed on Fridays after school. These weekly hangouts had become an escape from the facade they put up in front of their classmates.
“No, Mama is going out with some work people and Papa is working late today. Did you wanna come over?”
Damian sighed. “No, I just asked because I was wondering if your parents were out so I could check if the apartment complex was still the same shape.”
Anya shot him a glare, and before they knew it, they were heading to the Forgers apartment.
As soon as they entered the building Anya was grateful that her nosy neighbors weren't home. If they were, her parents would be hearing about Damian's arrival before they could fully enter the building.
When they finally walked into the apartment, Bond was gone. Anya assumed her father had forced Uncle Franky to walk him. He took at least an hour to walk Bond, and Franky could also be bribed with money. So, she wasn't too worried about him catching them. After Anya finished pondering all possible issues, they headed to her bedroom.
At first, it was purely innocent. They both sat on opposite sides of the bed, and just talked. Even though Anya was Damian's girlfriend, he still wanted to be respectful in the Forger household. And then, it started becoming less than innocent.
‘Damn, she looks so pretty’… Damian thought. Even after six months, Anya was still flustered hearing Damian think about her in such a light.
Damian confessed to Anya a few months ago, and ever since that day, the two had dated in secret. Mostly because the world was cruel, mainly because their school was worst. Both of them kept up the act of hating one another in public, but in private they loved each other so much it hurt.
“Anya?” Damian asked.
“Mm?”
“Do you know exactly what time your Dads gonna be home?”
And it finally clicked for the naive girl.
The two never had a chance to truly be alone,so Anya and Damian took advantage of the empty apartment.
Anya quickly straddled herself on Damian's lap, and pulled his lips to hers.
For a while, all they did was kiss, take a quick break to breathe, and repeat.
Anya was so distracted with Damian's lips, she didn't hear the apartment door open.

Loid had no more patients for the day, so he was given permission to go home a bit earlier. When he got there, Anya and Yor were nowhere to be seen, so he grabbed Bond and took him for a walk.
When he returned, Loid immediately knew something was off. It was six o’clock. At exactly 6 each day, a new episode of Spy Wars would be released, and Anya would be home, sprawled across the couch or the floor watching it.
And then he noticed something else.
A pair of shoes that definitely wasn't Anya’s in front of the door.
The tall blonde man dropped Bond's leash. He chose to ignore Bond's confused whimper, and sprinted to his daughter's bedroom.
‘What if she got abducted again? He thought. What if they found out I was Twilight and they took her for ransom, or even worse, killed her? What if–’
Loid's thoughts were immediately cut off by what he saw when he opened her bedroom door.
Damian and Anya stopped kissing as soon as the door opened.
Anya was still straddling Damian.
And suddenly, Loid wished it was abduction.

After Damian left the apartment, flushed and utterly mortified, Loid made Anya sit down on the couch.
“Anya”. Loid sighed.
“Papa”.
“What the hell was he doing here?” Loid asked, trying to be as calm as possible.
“....Well, uh — he was kinda uhm, we needed to study! Yeah! Study! We didn't see you – so we uhm went to my room, and we are learning about saliva in class so I was inspecting his mouth to see if —”
“Anya.”
“Okay I’m sorry but please dont ground me I still wanna watch Spywars–”
“Go to your room.” Loid sighed. “We can talk about this when your mother gets home.”
“But papa! Spywars!”
“Anya.”
The teenager sighed. “Fine.” She got up and stomped to her room.
Loid realized a few calls would need to be made. Reporting to handler about the unfortunate ‘advancement’ of Operation Strix, and also hiring a therapist for himself.
When Yor came home, they all sat down and talked about house rules. And Loid did everything in his power to not faint thinking about Anya having “Desmond” as a last name and not “Forger”.
Loid also banned Anya from being alone in a room with Damian. Ever.
And Yor giggled the entire conversation, muttering under her breath about “young love” and “silly teenagers.”

But in the present, Anya was truly confused and hurt.
After Becky dramatically stormed out to “figure out the truth” about her and Damian, all Anya could do was recall all the things Damian had said to her. He treated her so good in private just to treat her so bad in public. But every time she tried to call him she was sent straight to voicemail.
But she couldn't be mad. She said it was fine that they were enemies in public, and casual in private.
Or at least she thought she was fine. Until she felt tears well up in her eyes.
Why was she crying? It wasn't that serious.
But Becky was right. He didn't even try to keep up their old shenanigans.
Before she could wipe her tears away, Becky waltzed back into the cafeteria and saw what was happening immediately.
“Oh I knew it.” Becky yelled, now running toward her friend. “I knew that stupid bastard Damian did something. I’m gonna punch him in his face.” She said, beginning to walk away toward the greenettes table.
Anya grabbed Becky's arm immediately.
“Dont. It's okay, Becky.” Anya sniffled. “Why’d you come back anyways?”
“I forgot my designer purse on the bench next to you. But that doesn't matter. Will you please tell me what happened so I can help? And if I can't, maybe I can give you a shoulder to cry on? But, not on this shirt. It was like 150 dalc.” She said, pointing to her school top.
That made Anya crack a smile. At least one person hadn't changed. “Okay. I'll tell you.”
Anya broke down the whole story, and watched Becky's face contort from confusion, to happiness, to confusion, and then back to shock.
Becky had a horrified look on her face. “Okay one. YOU KEPT THIS FROM ME FOR ALL THIS TIME?!”
Anya sighed. “ ‘M sorry Becky but he really wanted us to be private…”
“Fine, okay, maybe just MAYBE I can get over that part. But your DAD caught you?” The brunette shrieked, causing the entire cafeteria to momentarily turn to stare at the two.
Anya's face turned red. “Yes! Shut up Becky.”

Across the cafeteria, Damian heard Becky, and knew exactly what was said.
“God, that Becky girl is loud.” Ewen sighed.
“I know, right.” Emile laughed.
“Damian, are you alright?” Ewen asked.
“Yeah, you look pretty stressed dude.” Emile said, noting what direction he was staring off into.
Damian audibly groaned. “Im fine, I just — I'll be right back.” He stood up from the table the three were sitting at and stormed off towards Anya’s table.
Once he reached the table, he cleared his throat loudly enough to grab Anya’s attention. “Can we talk?”
Anya scratched the back of her neck nervously. “Uh — yeah, I guess.”
The two stood up and walked out of the cafeteria. Ewen and Emile came running up not too long after Damian.
“Ok. What the hell is happening?” Ewen asked, tapping Becky on the shoulder.
“Damians talking to his girlfriend.” Becky said, shrugging.
“He has a girlfriend?!” The two blondes yelled in unison.
—--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Damian dragged Anya all the way down the hall, and into the janitor's closet.
When they got inside, Damian locked the door, and finally, Anya spoke up.
“Damian! What the hell are you doing? And why are we in the janitor's closet?!” Anya cried.
“Did you tell Becky about what happened on Friday?”
“Well – yes? But I thought it wouldn't matter to you because–”
“Because what? Why the hell would it not matter that you told the worlds biggest gossip, Becky Blackbell about me and you kissing —”
“Because you’ve been ignoring me all damn day!”
That made Damian pause for a second.
“What?”
Anya took a deep breath. “You’ve been ignoring me. I try to talk to you, you run away. I call you, you send it to voicemail. You haven't even tried to keep up our usual banter! And — and even worse, people are starting to notice!”
“Fine then Anya.”
“What?”
Damian sighed and stared at the floor. “If people are starting to notice, I’ll keep up our banter, but we don't have to say anything else to each other outside of that.
After a while, the two sat in silence. Not a sound was made and not a word was uttered. Damian finally found the courage to look at Anya and instantly spotted the tears falling down her face. Damian hadn't seen her cry since they were six. The same day she said the apology that made him fall in love with her.
Damian instantly panicked. “Wait — baby please don't cry.”
“So you don't," Anya sniffled again. “You don't want to date anymore?”
“No, I just…” Damian sighed and cupped Anya's cheeks with his hands. He quickly wiped any remaining tears away with the pads of his thumbs, his frown deepening when he saw they hadn't slowed.
“Im sorry, I didn't mean to upset you.”
Anya could only sniffle and try to calm herself down.
Damian wrapped his arms around her waist and brought her head to his chest.
“I didn't mean to hurt you Anya. I just didn't know what to do. Me and you have never been caught, and I didn't want it to get out to the entire school before I could properly talk to you. Though, considering you told Becky, it should be well known soon.”
That made Anya giggle.
Damian's whole face lit up upon hearing her laugh. “There she is.”
Anya smiled, wiping tears away from her face. “We have to communicate better.”
Damian laughed. “We do.”
“But maybe not in the janitor's closet.”
“Definitely not in the janitor's closet.”
Anya laughed again, her normal bubbly demeanor slowly returning to her.
“Anya,” Damian said, tilting her chin towards his face. “Will you be my public girlfriend?”
Anya smiled, taking no time to respond. “Of course. Will you be my public boyfriend?”
Damian nodded, planting a kiss on the crown of her head. “We should probably head back to lunch before a teacher catches us and we both get expel—”
Before he could finish his sentence, the janitor's door swung open. Neither of the children could make out the silhouette, but the two could assume it was a teacher. Fear traveled through both of their bodies.
“What are you kids doing?!” The shrill voice shrieked.
The two kids stood mouth agape, and their panicked expressions almost made the teacher laugh.
Almost.
“If you don't want a tonitrus bolt, head to class now. I won't repeat myself.”
The two filed out quickly, holding hands and equally horrified.
The teacher sighed, and leaned against the hallway walls.
‘Dumb kids.’ Loid thought. It was nearly impossible to sneak into this colossal school, and when I did I caught that brat alone with Damian again, despite our conversation last week?! I'll have to talk to Anya about this at dinner.’
The man had snuck into the school using his espionage skills. And no, he did not do it for a mission, but instead to check on his teenage daughter and her boyfriend. And luckily for him, he found the two in a rather compromising position and ruined it for them. Loid made his way to the exit smug, and very happy about foiling his childs plans.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A LITTLE TIDBIT WHEN ANYA GOT HOME FROM SCHOOL…
Anya opened the apartment door. “Mama! Papa! I’m hom-”
She was cut off by her Father grabbing her shoulders and staring at her very intently.
“Uh papa?” Anya said, trying to force Loid's arms off of her.
Loid released his daughter. “Nothing. Just don't be stupid.”
Anya contemplated sneaking into his mind, but his thoughts were always so jumbled that it would probably overwhelm her.
Anya cleared her throat nervously. “Uh…okay?”
And unfortunately, Anya would experience the horror of the birds and the bees conversation at dinner.
