Work Text:
Catherine entered the Academy’s new greenhouse. Even if she no longer had to follow a class schedule, having a routine was comforting. Her legs took her to one of the greenhouse’s most popular sections, a garden of Harmony roses. They bloomed in a beautiful variety of colors just like a rainbow.
She poked the petal of a light blue rose. When passing the greenhouse, Catherine had seen the many experiments Hannah did to get each rose to bloom, her voice singing different melodies.
Seeing the result was very satisfying, even if she wasn’t the one who did it. As she admired the Harmony roses, someone tapped on her shoulder. Startled, Catherine turned around. The very person who planted the Harmony roses stood in front of her.
Hannah smiled. “I’m glad you’re enjoying them.”
Catherine huffed, quickly trying to hide her surprise. “Naturally, I would. We didn’t have these at the old greenhouse.”
Hannah’s smile turned solemn. “Yes, I’m sure Professor Hyben would have been thrilled to see these.”
Catherine mentally scolded herself. She hadn’t meant to bring the mood down. “You’ve honored his memory. Not just this but back then too.” What a great attempt to salvage the situation, Catherine sarcastically thought. “He would be proud.”
“Thank you,” Hannah replied. The two of them stared at the Harmony roses in silence.
