Chapter Text
Kai sat next to Lloyd, trying to focus on the book in his hands. He sighed and put it aside. He couldn't help but worry about Lloyd's condition. The young ninja lay unconscious on the table beside him. The steady beeping of the heart monitor that Zane and Nya had built filling his ears.
Lloyd had been found unconscious by the ninja and has stayed that way for the past three hours. Nya and Zane had found the materials to build a heart monitor for Lloyd. Kai wished that the ninja didn't have to hide in Mystake's tea shop. He wished instead that he could go out there and beat up Garmadon for putting his teammate - no, his brother - in this condition.
He watched Lloyd as his chest rose and fell peacefully. Then, Kai heard the heart monitor's beeping go unsteady. Then it slowed down. He whipped his head around and stared at the monitor. The heartbeat on the screen was getting slower - and weaker.
Kai immediately stood up. "Zane! Nya! Someone!"
Zane rushed in. "What is it, Kai?" His question was answered as he stared and listened to the heart monitor. He rushed over to Lloyd's side and scanned him. "His pulse is weakening, and he is unstable."
Moments later, the other ninja rushed in and took the sight of Lloyd's slowing heartbeat in. They all went to his side.
"What do we do?!" Jay asked, his voice strained.
"What if we use our elemental powers? He split his power to us - remember? Maybe if we transfer our power to him, it will help heal him!" Cole suggested, his soft brown eyes showing hope.
"I'm in," Nya said.
"I'm in as well," Zane said.
"Me too," Jay said, some of his positive tone returning.
"Anything for our brother," Kai said.
They circled around the table, gently placing their hands on Lloyd's arms and legs.
Kai willed his fire into Lloyd.
Jay summoned his lightning, sending the power through Lloyd.
Zane gave his ice power to Lloyd.
Nya willed her water to run into Lloyd.
Cole willed his strength to Lloyd, hoping it will help him recover.
Lloyd jerked up, his emerald green eyes open and he gasped, before falling unconscious once again. The entire team stood, listening and holding their breath. The heart monitor's beeping jumped, and then returned to its steady beeping.
The ninja cheered, hugging each other. Their fear forgotten for the moment's notice and their hope returning.
The ninja decided to play a few games of cards after they calmed down from their celebration. They went over to the other side of the room and sat down on the dusty couches. They pulled a small coffee table up and Jay started shuffling the cards. They laughed and joked as Jay dealt the cards.
They played for an hour, never forgetting to check on Lloyd every once and a while.
They were in the middle of a game and they had just checked on Lloyd a few minutes earlier. Then suddenly, Kai heard it.
The flatline.
It took his brain a moment to process the sound he was hearing, and once he did, he immediately jumped up and ran to Lloyd's side. The others followed right behind him, their game forgotten.
Zane scanned Lloyd and checked his pulse, as the others waited anxiously for an answer. Zane's expression said everything. There was nothing they could do.
Nya ran into the other room, sobbing.
Kai's hands trembled. How could Garmadon kill his own son? Kill Kai's brother? His anger sizzled as he stared at Lloyd's face, which was peaceful. Now that he thought about, Kai had never seen his brother so peaceful.
Jay stood in shock. His mind went back to how they were celebrating just an hour earlier. Tears streamed down his face, drowning all possible happiness or celebration that he could have had.
Cole stared down at his fallen teammate. His heart broke knowing that Lloyd was still the youngest of the team - and the first to go. He recalled memories of him and Lloyd playing video games, trying to beat Jay's impossibly high score, how he had helped raise Lloyd, how he had helped train him. The memories made the tears break free. Cole turned away, no longer wanting to see the body of his brother - who still had a whole life ahead of him.
Mystake entered the room, a frown of sorrow on her face. Based off of her expression, Nya had told her what had happened. She went over to Lloyd and placed her hand on his forehead. She then backed away and went into her private room to grieve in her own way.
What would the ninja do now?
