Chapter Text
Avery looked to his side, there lay Derek in the flowers. The same flowers Avery was sitting in. They were in an ever going, infinite field. Just evenly cut, bright green grass and flowers. There were variations in flora, some lavenders, some poppies and a few chamomile. Nothing else. The aroma was strange, and strong. It made Avery slightly drowsy.
The sky looked like a clear day, few clouds and a soft blue.
Derek looked tired, his eyes were drooping and he looked like he was about to fall asleep right then and there. He looked over at Avery, the only place his eyes would look. The rest of the world seemed to be nonexistent to him. Derek squinted, looking for Avery's eyes. The eyes that once found him so very long ago.
Avery looked lost. His eyes were darting around from flower to cloud to flower again. He seemed to think about how to leave, but there was nothing screaming at him. The atmosphere was trying to trap them in there, a self proclaimed sanctuary.
Derek fought to remain awake. He had to, for Avery's sake. He had to find a way to leave. He knew Avery couldn't escape alone, but he was oh so sleepy, his eyes closed for just a second. That did nothing for his sleepiness. He was still very tired. His arms were weak but he pushed his brain to move them. His arm gently grabbed Avery's. The first time Derek had moved since they got there.
Avery's arm tensed and he looked down at Derek, who was trying to pull himself up.
“You could've asked for help.” Avery's voice was soft so he didn't startle Derek.
“I know.” Derek sounded guilty, he didn't want to worry Avery.
Avery gently grabbed underneath Derek's arms and hoisted him up. Now they were both sitting. Derek's head was leaning towards Avery's shoulder, not quite touching, Derek was too self conscious and cared too much about invisible boundaries.
The heaviness of his head got to him and he rested his head on Avery's shoulder. He could hear Avery's heartbeat. The rhythm of it was calming and consistent, something Derek could rely on.
Derek's eyes closed. Avery watched Derek slowly fall asleep. It was endearing to Avery, the fact Derek was so focused on helping them leave he forgot to take care of himself, the way he could trust Avery in his most vulnerable form, asleep. It was beautifully sad in a way, Derek was neglecting his health just for Avery.
Avery's hand found Derek's, he squeezed Derek's hand gently. Avery was glad Derek trusted him. He had never seen someone trust so quickly. It had only been 4 days of them talking in the real world. He could excuse that though, Derek knew everything in the world. Everything that will happen and has happened. It was a heavy burden to carry, so Avery gave Derek all the time he needed.
The soft breathing of Derek filled the air, accompanying the smell of the flowers.
It left Avery time to think. He could think about anything.
The word echoed in his head. Anything.
Escaping, he could think about escaping.
