Keep Us Hidden

Summary:

Yellow and Blue Pearl learn and change a lot during their days off.

Work Text:

The Diamonds were in the court, with Yellow pacing around the room and Blue sitting at her seat in silence.

“I have this feeling.” Blue whispers.

“What? Don’t tell me it’s something stupid.”

“It isn’t. It’s just…I wonder if Pink is screwing up as always.”

“Well, our pearls have told us that she’s making good progress. Perhaps she’s finally molding into her role.” Yellow says with a faint smile.

“I hope so. If not, then White may get involved.”

Yellow scoffs at that. “White doesn’t get involved in anything. She’s too busy locked in her room watching over Homeworld.” Blue’s eyebrows furrow at her statement.

“We don’t know that. White could very well involve herself within Pink’s progression.”

“She doesn’t get involved with anything unless she deems it important.” Yellow refutes, turning her head away from Blue.

“I understand that. But we have no idea how she’ll react if we tell her.”

“You haven’t told White?” Yellow turns back around, legitimately confused.

“Did you not?” Blue responds, also confused

They stare at each other for a few seconds, taking in the information. Yellow groans out loud after it fully sets in.

“I thought I told you to tell White!” She yells at her, clenching her hands.

“I didn’t! You…!” Blue stutters, astonished by Yellow’s reaction.

“One of us has to tell her! That’s that.” Yellow finalizes, pinching the bridge of her nose.

Blue sigh’s tiredly, closing her eyes. Yellow stands there, trying to calm herself down.

“I….Will you tell her?” Blue asks, looking up at her.

“I…I suppose I could.”

“Then, we can stop arguing about this.

“Good.”

Blue sighs, looking up at the ceiling.

“I still cannot shake the feeling I mentioned earlier.”

“Whatever. I’m sure you have better things to be worried about.” Yellow returns to pacing around, her expression strained.

“Like what? What would we have to worry about?”

“I don’t know, but do not focus on White and focus on your own business.” Yellow says, turning to leave the room.

She’s about to leave when a hand stops her. Yellow turns and Blue has a hand on her wrist, standing directly behind her.

“Yellow, just stay here.” She says, her voice soft.

“Blue, I have important-“ Yellow attempts to reply.

“I know. But right now, stay here.”

Yellow can say no. Despite her hard and sharp exterior, it was Blue who she couldn’t say no to, besides White of course.

“Fine. But not for too long, I have business.” She says reluctantly, walking back into the court, Blue trailing behind her.

“Haha! You’re so weird!” Yellow Pearl laughs, covering her mouth as she does.

Blue laughs softly in response, shifting back to her original form.

The two were playing some sort of game revolving shapeshifting into different gems.

“It’s your turn now.” Blue walks over and sits next to Yellow.

“Alright.” She replies confidently, standing up.

She walks in front of Blue, making sure she’ll be able to see her clearly. She quickly figures out what she’ll shape shift into.

She shifts into a different gem, smirking as she forms.

“What am I?” She asks.

“A quartz soldier.” She answers

“But what kind of quartz soldier?” Yellow raises an eyebrow.

“An amethyst.”

“Yep!”

Yellow goes back to her form and quickly shifts into another form.

“What am I now?” Yellow asks again.

Blue takes a moment to look before answering.

“Are you a type of garnet?” She asks in response.

“Yes.” Yellow nods her head.

“Are you a Hessonite?”

“Yes, you got it!” She replies excitedly.

She turns back into a pearl, panting slightly.

“Are you okay?” Blue stands up, walking towards Yellow.

“Yeah… shapeshifting is exhausting.” She replies, trying to catch her breath.

“It is. How about we take a break?” Blue guides Yellow to a corner of the room, sitting down while pulling her onto her, laying Yellow on her torso.

“Uh….what are we…?” Yellow looks up at Blue, her face flushed.

“I….I admittedly don’t know. But, I do want to try it.”

“Okay…” She replies, trying to get comfortable.

They sit there in silence for a while, their soft breathing the only noise in the room. The silence continues until Blue speaks suddenly;

“Yellow, I wish to speak with you about something.” Blue looks down at Yellow, her voice rather dull.

She looks up at Blue.

“What is it?”

“We shouldn’t be constantly together.” She says, her expression unknown.

Yellow is surprised at that. She feels scared as to what Blue could be implying.

“What? What do you mean?” She asks, her fear evident in her voice.

Blue’s hand caresses Yellow’s, trying to comfort her.

“What I’m trying to say is, we shouldn’t be constantly glued to one another. We must live our own lives while being together. Apologies if I worried you.”

“Oh. Well, you could’ve at least clarified that!” She responds, getting annoyed at Blue.

“I’m sorry.”

“It’s fine, I guess. Just be more specific when you say stuff like that.” Yellow grumbles.

There’s an awkward pause between them. Blue continues to caress Yellow’s hand. Yellow all of sudden sits up, sitting on Blue’s lap.

“Listen. Even though I love being around you, I do get that we shouldn’t be glued together. We could get caught by another gem and besides, I want to learn more about myself and I’m sure you want to do that too, right?” Yellow explains, her understanding and sincerity clear.

“Yes. It will be good that we have our own individual lives. I have noticed that we’ve been changing.” Blue agrees, smiling.

“Oh yeah?” She asks cheekily.

“Well. Do you remember when you forgot to report to our diamonds?”

“Yeah?” Yellow responds, confused.

“You’ve never forgotten something like that. It’s an interesting change.”

“Well, I’ve noticed something about you.” Yellow says in return, smirking.

“What?”

“You’ve been more expressive. Not too much but much more compared to a 1000 years ago.”

Blue laughs at that, enjoying Yellow’s enthusiasm.

“That’s true.”

Yellow laughs with her, lying on top of her. The awkward air shifts to a more comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.

“Can we just stay here?” Yellow asks, closing her eyes.

“I don’t think we can. Our Diamonds will probably need us to arrange something.” Blue responds, playing with Yellow’s hair.

“Ugghh!” Yellow groans, earning a small laugh from Blue.

“We can stay here for a few more minutes…” Blue responds, holding Yellow comfortably.

“Okay…”

They stay in a comfortable position, whispering to each other about things and other gems they find annoying. The two feel the most happy in this moment. Yellow feels so happy, but something else bugs her. She looks over at the floor, deciding whether to talk about it or not.

“You know….” She begins, her tone softer than usual. “Have you ever thought that the change is… “bad?”

“Bad? No, I haven’t.” Blue replies, her tone having a hint of confusion.

“Hah, okay….” Yellow responds, her voice faint.

They stay there for another minute before they have to leave for their respective Diamonds.

Yellow stands next her Diamond, listening to her scold some quartz soldiers.

“You have been slacking off and not working!” Yellow Diamond yells, her aggressive tone echoing throughout the room.

“We…We apologize, my Diamond.”

“Apologies don’t matter when you’re not working!”

“Please understand…! Our numbers aren’t going up and we…we’re doing almost all the work!” One quartz soldier says, speaking up.

Yellow Diamond scoffs at that, pointing a finger at the gem. Within a second, a beam shoots out, hitting gem and destabilizing her. Her physical form poofs away and the gemstone falls onto the floor.

“Well? Do any of you have anything else to complain about?” She scoffs at the rest, seeing if anyone else needs punishment.

They all shake their heads, bowing to Yellow Diamond.

“Good. Now return and get back to work!” She yells at them.

Before they all leave, one of the soldiers grabs the gemstone off the floor. The quartz soldiers all quickly turn and rush to the door. As they’re about to open it, Yellow Diamond stops them.

“Hold it!”

They all stop and turn to face Yellow Diamond.

“My pearl will escort you all to the warp zone.”

Yellow leans down to her pearl.

“You will take them to the warp zone of the planet Catticus, understood?”

“Yes…my Diamond.” She replies, walking over to the group of soldiers.

They all walk down the halls of Homeworld. Yellow feels annoyed that she has to guide these quartzes around to the warp zone. A sudden hand pushing her makes her more annoyed.

“Hey, Pearl. How about you run along? We can make our own way.” A jasper says, laughing at her.

“Yeah, we don’t need no tour guide.” An amethyst says to her, shoving Yellow aside.

“I was instructed to guide you and I will complete that task.” Yellow responds, trying to be respectful.

“Sure sure. Go on ahead.” Jasper responds, chuckling to the amethyst that had pushed Yellow.

They continue walking down the halls, with the quartzes continuing to push the buttons with Yellow. She managed to stay calm as they’re bugged her.

“Brutes…” She muttered, her annoyance growing.

“What was that?” Jasper says, stepping in front of Yellow. “Huh?”

“Move out of the way.” She replies, not wanting to argue.

“You whispered something! I heard you!” She points at Yellow, poking her.

“And what if I did?” She snaps back, pointing a finger back at her.

“You’re a pearl. Pearl’s don’t say rude things to gems who stand above them in status.”

The other quartz soldiers laugh alongside the Jasper.

“So, you gonna repeat that?” She leans forward, smirking at the aggravated pearl.

“No. Now move.” She says, trying to keep her composure.

“And what’ll you do if I don’t?”

Yellow decides in that exact moment to let her anger out. She clenches her fist, her hand shaking. As the jasper is about to tease her again, Yellow throws a punch directly at her gemstone, which rests on her arm.

“Agh! What the?!” Jasper falls back, shocked at Yellow’s reaction.

“How about you brutes listen to me and I won’t punch you in the gemstone!” She yells, making all of them react in shock.

The Jasper looks at her gemstone, a near crack in it. She turns back to Yellow, legitimately scared now.

“Okay…I’ll….listen, okay? And the other will too, right guys?” Jasper stands up slowly, looking at the other soldiers.

The other soldiers all nod their heads, not wanting to have their gemstones damaged in any way. Yellow sighs, feeling more calm afterwards.

“Good. Now, let’s get to the warp zone.” Yellow states, walking down the hallway, the quartz soldiers quickly following behind.

She feels better with being more assertive with annoying gems.

Blue and Yellow sneak around Homeworld, trying to find a place to be together. They eventually go into Blue Diamond’s room, a risky place.

“Are you sure we should be here?” Yellow asks nervously

“We’ll be sneaky, don’t worry.” Blue reassures.

They sneak off to a hidden corner of the room, hidden from anyone who’d enter.

Yellow pulls Blue closer to her, kissing her repeatedly. Blue wraps her arms around Yellow’s neck, smiling as they kiss.

“Yellow….calm yourself….” Blue says between Yellow’s enthusiastic kisses.

Yellow pulls away, laughing.

“Sorry…I just couldn’t help myself….” She says sheepishly.

“Mmm, of course you couldn’t.” Blue responds, a hint of playfulness in her tone.

They hug eachother, quickly fusing into Emerald.
She lays down on the floor, feeling completely relaxed. Emerald laughs a bit at herself.

“My goodness. These two are such idiots.” She mutters, her fingers brushing over her two gemstones as she sits up.

She slowly lays back down, enjoying her time as a fusion.

“I do wonder…..what does it feel like to be those two. They’re so close together and….I can’t help but feel so happy for them.” Emerald mumbles to herself, feeling the love between Yellow and Blue in her soul, or whatever a soul would be for a gem.

“I’ll let you too have your time together, you hopeless romantics.” She laughs softly.

Emerald unfuses, with Yellow and Blue sitting comfortably on the floor.

Yellow lays down on the floor, gesturing that Blue lay with her. Blue moves on top of her, wrapping herself around her. Yellow laughs at that, hugging Blue in return.

“This is nice. Even though you did this yesterday.” Yellow remarks, chuckling.

“Funny, isn’t it?” Blue replies, her tone slightly happier

“Whatever…” Yellow scoffs, attempting to hide her smirk.

Blue moves her face to Yellow’s, kissing her cheek. Yellow freezes at that, not expecting that.

“Is that okay?” Blue asks, looking down at Yellow.

“Yeah….yeah it’s fine. Sorry, I just wasn’t….I didn’t…” She stutters, her face completely flushed.

“I understand, no need to apologize.”

“Right…”

Blue rests her head on Yellow’s chest, the air around them comforting.

“You know what’s the best part of this?” Yellow states, looking down at Blue

“What would that be?” She asks.

“We can stay here as long as we want.”

“Sure, whatever you say.” Blue responds, her voice soft.

They lay there together for a while, enjoying each other’s company for as long as they could. When they had to return to work, Yellow didn’t completely feel sad.
