Chapter Text
March 16th, 1967, Abbey Road studios
It was late at night at Abbey Road studios. The Beatles were working on their new album, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The tensions in the studio were high but the Beatles still got it done by April. However John and Paul were staying late at the studio that night. George and Ringo had already gone to a bar because they were just done with Paul and John. Usually once George and Ringo left the two would get high on LSD. John had accidentally taken LSD with George when their dentist slipped in their coffees. Paul first did LSD with John one day when John came into the studio and was high. George Martin sent him home and Paul went with him. All four of the Beatles had eventually done it but John was major on it. Needless to say the two liked being alone in the studio late at night. John and Paul were working on a song called, “She’s Leaving Home”. It was a fan favorite of the two. John did the chorus and Paul wrote it, but something was different this time it felt more connecting between the two.
“John. This song is way more different than the others.” Paul stated.
“It does.” John said quietly
Paul was very high, way higher then John but John…he was not. John has had a thing for Paul for a while. Ever since they met in 1957, but he never had the guts to tell Paul about it. But now could be his chance, plus Paul was way too high so there would be a chance Paul wouldn't even remember this. John slowly moved towards Paul trying to be cautious.
“Hey Paul…I have been meaning to tell you…something.” John reckoned. Paul looked at him with sparkles in his eyes. He mumbled the words of what sounded like “What.” but it came out slurred. John’s posture got straighter as he tried to have the courage to say it.
“I don't know if you'll accept this but you cannot tell the others about it.” John urged.
“Okay.” whispered Paul.
“I like you.” John gulped after saying the words that could only mean one thing. He felt stupid about saying it. How could he do this to his lifelong friend? Paul looked at him like he understood what he said but at the same time he didn't.
“Like how?” Paul said confusingly.
John looked at him like he just said the stupidest thing ever. He thought Paul was high?!
“You know…Like friends..” John laughed nervously.
“Oh.. I thought you meant like lovers.” Paul laughed.
John knew it was stupid. After 20 minutes he told Paul he was leaving. Paul asked John if he could drive him home he didn't want to but eventually accepted it. He dropped Paul off at his house.
“Ill see you tomorrow John.” Paul preached. He walked to his door while skipping and happy while John sat in his car looking out the window.
“How could I have said that! I'm so stupid!” John slammed his head on his steering wheel and left it there for 5 minutes until he drove away. While John was driving down the street he saw this shop. It was a psychic shop. He said fuck it and walked in. There was no one there, only him and the shop keeper.
“Let me know if you need help.” said the shop keeper mysteriously. John thought nothing of it until he saw this stand. It was a stand of these things called a One Wish Willow. It was a red triangle box and had two people on it. He picked it up and read the box.
“You only get one wish, so make it count.” John whispered to himself. He thought maybe if he got this he could finally not be a coward and actually tell Paul. But he second guessed himself. What if instead….he wished for Paul to love him. Surely it wouldn't work, right?
He grabbed the box and took it to the shop keeper.
“Wow you're the first person to buy this! I’m surprised. You know how many wishes people say actually come true with this. Maybe I should buy one too.” The shop keeper laughed.
John bought the “One wish willow” and went back to his car. He opened it and saw a stick looking object. The instruction said to open it, say your wish out loud, and break it. John grabbed both ends of the stick with his hands and said, “I wish Paul McCartney loved me more then anyone else in the fucking world.” and snapped it.
