Work Text:
"I dont know what you're writing, but i can already tell its gonna be a disaster." Kindle stood with their hands on their hips, staring at the computer Reed was curled protectively over like an overcooked shrimp.
"Give me a break, its not like i had much time for writing under the Warthead's thumb," Reed grumbled.
"You could have at least picked up a book and OBSERVED how it was laid out." Kindle reached out scrolled through the Google Doc on Reed's laptop.
"Fanfiction. I see. The usual angst that people only read when they're severely depressed or in desperate need of validation." Reed blushed slightly at Kindle's words.
"Hey, it has actual plot." Kindle raised an eyebrow.
"Its an enemies-to-lovers... and both of them happen to have issues. Like, a lot of issues. Like, the issues and fluff are 70% of the actual fic."
"Im sorry, I couldn't make any of that out from this horrible formatting. You know what you need? PARAGRAPH BREAKS!!! Nobodys gonna read your fics if they're one giant block of text. Try using them before dialogue or when the scene, mood, or atmosphere shifts. Kinda like the fic the audience is reading is doing right now." Reed looked puzzled.
"Who are you talking to- nevermind. I didnt come asking for writing tips. I came here to peacefully work on my fic." Kindle looked around.
"Buddy, if you wanted peace and quiet you would have picked somewhere to sit other than our living room." It was true. Reed was perched on the edge of a squishy beanbag, computer on his lap, staring out the window overlooking a city.
I dont know what city. Its just a generic modern city.
Reed scooped his computer off amd stormed into the kitchen.
"Im gonna make myself a coffee," he yelled over his shoulder,
"And then im going to my room." Kindle shrugged.
"Suit yourself," they yelled back.
In the kitchen, Cyber was cradling a large cup of his dark coffee while muttering to himself about firewalls and variables. Reed stormed past him, setting his computer on the counter before pulling out a can of his medium roast blend. Cyber looked at the document on the screen.
"I dunno what that is, but it sure looks like ya need a couple o paragraph breaks." If this fic was a Disney cartoon, steam would have started pouring out Reed's ears.
"WILL EVERYONE SHUT UP ABOUT THE PARAGRAPH BREAKS?" Cyber was unfazed.
"Ok. Chill. Im gonna work now. Have fun writing without paragraph breaks." As Cyber walked out of the kitchen with his massive cup of coffee, he swore he heard a spoon straight up snap.
Reed slowly stired sugar into his coffee, taking a sip of the (intentionally) lukewarm liquid. He held his NASA mug in one hand and his computer in the other, nudging the door to his room open with his foot. He shoved the door shut once he was inside, then set his mug and device down on his full but organized desk. He plugged his laptop in and started typing.
He only got a few words in before sighing and going back in and adding paragraph breaks.
"THERE," he yelled,
"I ADDED PARAGRAPH BREAKS. YOU HAPPY NOW?"
He could hear Cyber and Kindle clapping from the living room.
