Chapter Text
Fadime
Everything had settled, all the punishments doled out. Everyone got justice. Justice wasn't always kind, that’s what Fadime learned. Justice meant not forgiving, it meant enmity, a swift divorce, a grand divide. What before seemed like a possible end to a lifelong feud had now become the resurgence of animosity only this time less violent but not any less deadly for the hearts.
The Kocari people kept the bridge, they also reserved the rights to travel in whichever way was useful, but it had been declared that even if it was just a toe of a Furtuna crossed this border a war would be incited.
And so two weeks had passed since this agreement took place, three since everything came to light. Five weeks Fadime found it hard to sleep, so you’ll have to forgive her if she didn’t notice at first. Nausea, back pains, headache and increased fatigue didn’t seem out of place for someone who was barely sleeping.
The only reason she became concerned was because she began to bunk with Eleni, and ever the doctor, she noted the symptoms with scary precision. With a professional tone and compassionate look she asked: “Eh Fadime, when was your last period?”
So she picked up her phone, glad that even with his general bumbling behaviour when it came to the subject Adil had taught her to use an app to keep track of her “monthly shark week”, and realized she was close to two weeks late.
She looked up and faced Eleni with what must have been a terrified look on her face. “I mean, it’s normal for me not to have it regularly when I’m stressed and I haven’t been sleeping well, so it’s probably no cause for concern, right?”
Eleni’s compassionate look didn't ease her worries so she asked again: “Right?”
Eleni composed herself before her eyes.
“Right,” she said, almost too quickly. “plus you used protection, right?, so the chances are low” -”though not zero” she mumbled, surely thinking of the percentage in her mind.
Though Fadime held on to the first line: “Right, we were safe” (he made sure we were, she didn't say).
“We should probably go eat breakfast, baba said anne was even preparing one of your favorite dishes for breakfast. Surely a good meal will make you feel better. And after we can go to the clinic to run some blood tests just to make sure it’s just a little stress” Eleni said, looking like she was running multiple possible diagnostics in her brain.
And even though Fadime was sure it was just stress, she wanted to ease the tension in her niece so she agreed: “Okay Minnak” she said as tugged her with her to the kitchen.
They quickly sat at the table greeting Esme and Adil. They received kisses from them both. Quickly Adil began speaking about the herd and like every morning since Esme moved in he was chastised “Breakfast first Kocari, work later, let the girls eat.” The girls muffled their laugh at Adil’s dejected face.
“Fadime kizim how did you sleep tonight any better?” Esme asked with concern.
“I’m fine,” Fadime said, a little too loud and abrupt. It was no secret Fadime was having a rough time, Eleni and her both were they just expressed it differently, and apparently Eleni’s extra long shifts and runs wasn't as concerning as her dark circles and change of room. It was, Adil and Esme both expressed their concern with this too but Fadime felt a little more touchy after this morning’s conversation.
Not deterred, Esme gave her a soft look and continued “I made your favorite for breakfast”. She placed a handful on her plate and it looked perfect, just like she always liked. Except this time something was wrong, and Fadime knew she’d been having bouts of nausea but it had never been so bad before. The smell alone made her quickly get up her chair scraping the floor as she made a dash for the bathroom.
This, this was the real moment Fadime felt concerned.
