Chapter Text
“You play the piano, right?” Abby asked as she spotted a keyboard in Lee’s room. The two were just hanging out like usual when Abby saw the instrument again.
“Like I said, I only know like— two songs,” Lee replied, trying to avoid playing.
“What other instruments do you play?” Abby asked, causing Lee to shake her head and sigh.
“Why would you assume I play other stuff?”
“I dunno. You just seem like the type to, I guess. You were in a band, right? There are some people in bands who can be flexible with their instrument choice.”
Lee just gave a grin to mask her shock as Abby wasn’t entirely wrong.
“Are you sure you’re not a musician? You seem to know an awful lot about bands,” Lee asked as she raised her eyebrow.
“Well, I guess I’ll admit I researched more about them after you mentioned you were in one,” Abby shrugged, revealing all that with a straight face.
Warmth flooded Lee’s cheeks from that statement. How did she even do that? How could one be so openly cheesy about things they do to show their interest in people?
“You really got nothing else to do with your life?” Lee chuckled, trying to hide more of her feelings. However, it was to no avail as Abby immediately caught how she had made her friend feel so important.
“I do have many things to do. I just chose to spend my time on you,” Abby replied.
If Lee’s heart drumming against her ribcage from that counted, she would’ve been able to say that she played three instruments.
“Ahah! Found it!” Abby’s voice suddenly snapped the raven haired emo out of her dazed out expression. The shorter girl had found the second instrument— a bass guitar.
Sneaky, huh?
“Wha— hey! You caught me off guard!” Lee accused her, though no malice was in her words.
“Yeah, I did,” Abby confirmed, proud of her little crime, “Can you play anything on this? You can’t say you can’t, by the way. This guitar had notes beside them!”
Rolling her eyes, Lee grabbed the guitar and sat on her bed, gesturing for Abby to sit next to her.
“…I can play one song, I guess. But…”
“But?”
Now, it was Lee’s turn to grin at Abby smugly.
“Only if you duet with me.”
Chuckling, Abby nodded without hesitation.
“Oh, right. Do you know that song called uh— Good little Girl? From—”
“Adventure time?! Heck yeah!” Abby suddenly exclaimed with a shine in her eyes. As the accountant was who rarely shows her ‘childish’ side, Lee was flooded with pride from how she could get her crush to be herself around her.
“Okay, uhm I’ll start now, I guess…” Lee muttered, suddenly feeling shy from the way Abby was looking at her so intently.
‘This girl has no idea what she’s doing to me.’ Lee thought to herself before finally beginning.
It was Riley’s bar’s Dance event. As the supposed singers for this show had suddenly bailed on it, replacements had to be made. Of course, knowing their best friend the most, Riley had chosen Lee as she had the most experience in playing instruments. It wasn’t like Lee didn’t perform there before, anyway. However, as the singers had to do a duet as requested, Abby was chosen next. As she was someone who mostly only sang while showering, she didn’t have any stage experience or anything like that. Due to this, a bundle of nerves suddenly flooded her mind as she and Lee were going to be up on stage soon.
The two were wearing matching noir outfits— collared long sleeved shirts with ties for each of them.
The fact that they were matching made Lee’s heart race all over again. This was undeniably cute…
“Oh my God— what if I actually can’t do this…?” Abby breathed out in panic. Sympathetically, Lee patted her crush’s back, hoping to soothe Abby’s worries. Unfortunately, that was not happening at all.
“You never sang in front of a lot of people at all, huh?” Lee asked. Embarrassed, Abby nodded, looking down at her feet in shame.
“I’m not even that good! Why did I think I could do this? I’m an accountant, not some wannabe singer!” Abby exclaimed her regret. At that, Lee walked in front of Abby, placing her hands on her shoulders gently.
“Hey. You’re not a wannabe singer because you ARE a singer. I’ve heard you before. Riley’s heard you before. That’s why we both knew it was a good idea to get you onstage, too.”
“…And, uh…” Lee continue, looking away shyly.
Abby raised an eyebrow.
“And?”
“Out of anyone in this world, I would wanna sing a duet with you.”
“…Whoa,” Abby breathed out with wonder in her eyes, “Never took you to be the sappy type.”
Lee stuttered, “I- I’m not! I just wanted an excuse to get you to sing, that’s all…” she continued, “I mean— it’s revenge for making me play that guitar that time…”
Abby laughed, “I really am evil, huh?”
‘No,’ Lee thought.
‘You’re too good for my world.’
