Work Text:

Like any other day, Alfred stepped into his front door after work. He gets off work around the same time as his brother, but what takes him so long to get home most of the time is that he goes out with his coworkers a lot. This causes him to be around 2-3 hours late everyday. But today was slightly different, he came home earlier than he usually did.

“Yo, Matthew, I’m home now!” He yelled as he tossed his shoes off of his feet and locked the door. Alfred turned to the living and saw Ivan on the couch?! This baffled the American. Why the hell is this tankie RUSSIA at his house?! And with his brother’s bear on his lap?! What is going on? Alfred needed answers quickly because he would never welcome Ivan into his house.

“Privet, Amerika! I see you’re home early today,” Ivan said as he  turned his attention towards the American.

“What did you do to my brother, you dirty commie?! Tell me now!” Alfred demanded, looking mortified. His face was as if he saw a ghost. All color drained from his face.

Before Ivan could speak, Matthew came out from the kitchen. He gave his brother a small smile.

“Ah, hey, Alfred! I wasn’t expecting you to be home so soon. Usually you work later, eh?” Matthew said softly as he sat next to Ivan.

“Yeah, I do. But can you PLEASE tell me why you have this.. commie in our house? You know I don’t like him! Are you okay? He isn’t holding you hostage or something, right?” Alfred asked, clearly a bit worried about this. Ivan gave Alfred a creepy ass smile, causing goosebumps to crawl all over his skin.

“Oh, yeah. I was planning on telling you soon, but I never have time to do so. I’m really sorry I haven’t told you sooner,” Matthew said nervously as he scratched the back of his head.

“Tell me what? The fuck??? Why the hell is he here?! Oh, wait. Don’t tell me...” Alfred’s eyes widened, suddenly realizing what Matthew meant.

“Yeah… It’s crazy, isn’t it, eh? Both him and I are dating each other now. I swear I would’ve told you soon! It’s just hard with how tense it is between you guys, don’t you agree?” Matthew awkwardly chuckled. He looked back at Ivan slightly nervously, taking his hand in the process. Ivan simply gave another creepy smile back, but Matthew somehow found it reassuring.

“Dude, what is wrong with you?! He’s like, a freaking communist, you know?! He’s my worst enemy right now! Are you turning Communist now?!” Alfred shrieked as he pointed an accusatory finger at his brother. He started to shake his head and mutter ‘no’ over and over again.

Matthew immediately stood up and walked over to Alfred; he placed a hand on his shoulder. “Alfred… Calm down… I’m not communist or anything. Just, Ivan and I understand each other. We’ve been talking more, and really hit it off! Plus, this is my relationship. I can like whoever.”

“Da! I wouldn’t force my dear Matvey in becoming one with mother Russia. Though, I would be happy if he did.” Russia interjected joyfully. “I treat Matvey very kindly, so you do not have to worry about him, Amerika!”

“Dude, you can’t just say that. You better leave my bro alone or else you’ll regret it,” Alfred threatened. He wasn’t playing.

“I already said to not worry! I don’t have any ill intentions with Matvey. I do love him,” Ivan reassured as he got up from the couch. He gently got the little bear off of his lap before he went over to stand in front of Alfred. Kumajirou remained silent, watching the situation unfold.

“Well… If you say so. I’ll be watching you though,” Alfred warned him as he eyed Ivan before turning to Matthew. “If he really does make you happy, somehow, I guess I don’t have that big of a problem with whatever y’all have going on. If he gives you any trouble, tell me immediately. He’ll be dealt with.”

“Okay, I’m glad. I thought you were going to go for his throat, haha…” Matthew chuckled nervously. He took Ivan’s hand for comfort; he quickly felt the Russian squeeze it.

“Anyway, see y’all later. I’m going to my room. Don’t do any funny business while I’m gone. Capeche?” Alfred warned. This guy was for real. He eyed Ivan yet again before going up the stairs. Once Matthew heard his door shut, he let out a sigh of relief.

“Oh thank maple, I was so nervous!” He shuddered. “At least we don’t have to hide anymore, and he took it well, eh?”

“Mhm, that is correct. I’m surprised Amerika wasn’t more aggressive about it,” Ivan thought out loud as he led Matthew back to the couch.

“I’m also glad you didn’t provoke him. That would’ve made things 100 times worse, eh?” Matthew scratched the back of his head. Russia leaned down and placed a kiss on Matthew’s nose.

“I wouldn’t provoke him here because that would be too much stress for you. If you weren’t here, I would’ve said stuff!” Ivan admitted as he rubbed his nose against Matthew’s.

“Haha, I guess I’m not surprised by that. It’s good that I was here then, right?” Matthew sighed. “Wait… Alfred’s probably going to tell Arthur about this, and then he is going to tell papa about this as well. Noo… They wouldn’t be happy that I’m dating you…..”

“Do not worry, Matvey. We can take care of it just fine, no? Nothing we can’t handle,” Ivan reassured Matthew. Matthew sighed yet again and laid his head on Ivan’s chest. The Canadian closed his eyes.

“You’re right.. I’ll worry about this later. Dealing with Alfred is probably the worst part, Arthur and papa would be easier.” Matthew mumbled. He looked up at Ivan and placed a light kiss against his lips. “Now, you can stay for longer and not have to leave when Alfred comes home!”

“Hmm, yes. I can be with you for longer! That is good!” Ivan grinned before he placed a light kiss on Matthew’s lips in return. Kumajirou then gently got back onto Ivan’s lap, finding the Russian to be very comforting to lay on.
