Chapter Text

Since he started, Intern has always been a sort of wild card. Nobody really cared all that much about that though, they had better things to worry about. And today was no different.

Intern who was originally gonna help surgeon with his work couldn’t because the hospital was on its last strike- one was when a patient got eaten and the other was because Intern gave the herbs a patient was allergic to- so to prevent the odds of a third strike they let intern clean up messes and fix up the cameras for the day.

Today was July 8th, which meant they had 23 days until the strikes reset. They get 3 strikes each month that don’t stack and if they go on their fourth strike, the hospital could close forever.

However everything was doing fine, really. That was until they were alerted that another anomaly had happened nearby and there would be most patients then usual which couldn’t have been any worse since their were already understaffed. Intern was supposedly sitting this one out, Head Nurse having gotten sick herself and Ron was running late. This would’ve left only Paramedic, Surgeon, and Nurse to take of the patients.

“Ah… well ahem!.. since we’ve got a nearby anomaly attack, I’ll make sure to call Secret agent in today. Paramedic and Surgeon will take care of the second wing, I’ll take care of the first wing,” Nurse says, they both nodded.

usually head nurse would be the one talking in this sort of situation, while Paramedic and Surgeon were easily more skilled than her they were both introverts so they never bothered when anyone else took the leader role. Intern never bothered since he never really cared about that sorta stuff, he’s not really paying attention right now anyways.

Head nurse actually had a soft spot for nurse, probably because they worked together a lot. Or maybe Head nurse saw her as a little sister.

For a moment it looked like Nurse was deciding something before turning to intern, her look being too friendly to Intern for a moment. For once Intern is finally listening.

“and Intern will clean and help work with security,” she says calmly.

Out of all the jobs available, this was probably the only that needed the most experience.

Intern wasn’t exactly horrible at anything. It’s just that none of his skills correlates to the profession he choose, plus intern was quite frankly seen more as a janitor then an actual intern. He never bothered listening that much so often he was placed with cleaning since nobody could mess that up. Nobody truly knows why Intern chose this profession in the first place. But for some reason he wasn’t freaked out or scared by anything, and in this hospital that’s really the only quality you need.

“I don’t really have a weapon though, plus I don’t have experience-“ before he could finish he feels something placed in his hands.

“Now you do” She hands intern her taser with a deadpan expression.

“Yeah but what about the experien-“ before intern could get his words out the door swings open, multiple patients rushing in, multiple notifications stacking up.

“Patient is in critical condition in room four!”

“Patient is in critical condition in room one!”

“A patient is on fire!”

More continue to be announced, everyone rushing out to a room based on their task. Intern looks around for a moment then yanks the fire extinguisher before using it on the patient on fire. Security who was originally supposed to help him went unconscious from forgetting to drink coffee, leaving his to do his job by himself.

“Come on dude, help,” he mumbles, softly kicking his unconscious body before sighing, quickly dragging him to the office before getting back to work- it’s alright he’s lying beside the the coffee machine anyways.

He puts out multiple fires and about to fix cameras but there’s still a huge problem, there’s still too many patients. 3 of the patients has just fainted while waiting on the seats. He ponders for a moment before picking the patient up before getting enough distance from the other patients, and swiftly throwing the unconscious body in the trash. Nobody will know.

Except Secretary who finally clocked in.

“So that’s the only solution you could think of?” Secretary asks clearly tired, he probably missed the bus. He looks more disappointed than shocked, having a face that basically looks like he’s saying ‘really?’

“…We haven’t gotten another strike” He responds with a shrug, before doing so again two more times.

Secretary sighs, pinching his nose before waving him off and going to the office, knowing fully well that the only one would still be waiting there in a emergency like this is Barney which means he won’t even be able to drink coffee yet.

As Secretary left intern notices there were still 6 patients and all of them are in critical condition. They haven’t even checked in yet due to the 8 rooms already being used. In the next minute if they don’t get attention or care they might die.
Only two rooms will have space in under a minute.

He notices how one of them keep breathing like their holding something in, he can tell it’s not a cough. There’s also one that- Oh. he tases an obvious one, the patients face noticeably uncanny she wasn’t rejected yet since Ron wasn’t here. After she gets up she runs out the door.

After a moment of deciding, trusting his instincts he also tases the one staring at him and the one breathing heavily.

There’s one more that needs to go, but all of them look innocent- oh and one is attacking him. He pushes the shapeshifter off and shoots them.

Not a single strike, geez he was great at this. Or maybe he’s just the only one who notices some things. Even though on his part he could’ve re-thought tasing random patients just cause of a gut feeling and throwing some in the trash because it’s not ethical it’s not like it should doesn’t work, besides It’s not like anyone here is that strict on that sorta stuff, it just matters if you complete your job.

Either way now the rest of the remaining patients are getting taken care after the first 8 are either recovering or already have recovered. There no longer being an overwhelming amount of patients thanks to intern, and surprisingly no anonymous attacking patients.

By now The accountant and security have woken up and things are now going smoothly with what should be all the shapeshifters and monsters gone. The accountant helps out Nurse while Ron drinks coffee.

As he repaired the final cameras- his co-workers already starting to group up at the middle of the hospital again- he hears one last announcement.

“A fire has started in room 5!”

Last one of the day it’s fine. He heads to the room the fire is in with a fire extinguisher, spraying it everywhere- a patient who is recovering is in the room- he sighs of relief as he’s supposedly completed his part, making sure to keep his distance from the bed, noticing there’s something under it again.

“My head hurts…” the patient grumbles standing up as by the time the fire is gone he has recovered.

Intern who already knows what comes next pulls out his taser, tasing him. Till he realized it doesn’t work anymore.

“Shoot.. really should’ve conserved this a bit more…” he mumbles before noticing the patient’s head split open, resembling a flower with sharp teeth.

He corners himself unintentionally, the door is out of reach, he’s too far to call for help plus the door is closed. Besides he’s meant to be to one in charge of taking care of anomalies so that’s out that question!

He looks around just incase, nobody. He stands still, hands gripping on whatever he was near by- it’s not difficult to do this but it feels like having a horrible migraine that can sometimes persist for hours depending on how long he does this.

The patient continues to go forward- about to latch on to the intern before pausing for just a moment as hands grips their shoulders- it’s as if he’s trying to do something.

His mouth opens unnaturally. Part of the skin around his mouth may as well rip from how they’re being stretched, it shows off his teeth which are now sharp enough to leave a mark.

He rushes to bite the patient before it bites him, tearing off flesh multiple times and spiting it out. He only stops when the body goes limp. Before he relaxes his mouth, he takes part of the flesh he bit that he couldn’t get out and rips it out before consuming it.

He takes one more before relaxing his face, it returning to normal only after a moment. But before he lets the body go, he notices a black figure in the corner of his vision. But it’s too short to be something unnatural like Stalker.

He turns to the window of the door still holding the what might as well be the decapitated body of the patient, blood staining his mouth.

He sees a certain black cat with yellow eyes in a suit, somehow looking through the window despite Their distance. Of course he would come, he only comes when emergencies like this occur. It would be so much easier if he wasn’t here or at least came before this.

He would love to say he’s just waving to him, but he knows full well that he saw what he did, Even if his vision wasn’t that clear he definitely the patient without a head and blood on his mouth. He knows that Secret agent saw him as a anomaly.

And now they just made eye contact.

He anticipates it before it even happens, he moves out the way. A bullet flys through the door. Which in exchange creates a commotion between his co-workers near Secret Agent, they likely didn’t noticed which means he can still fix this.

“Look in that room, now!” Secret Agent says agitated with an undertone of panic.

With the little time Intern has before he’s caught, he thinks quick and shoves the body under the bed letting the monster that has been lying their take the dead body so they won’t see bite marks. Ripping off the part of his sleeves which were stained with blood, letting the body hold onto it and taking it with them. He cleans his face, drying it as much as possible before secret agent barges in the room. He pauses for a moment noticing everything that no longer is there.

That gives just enough time for the others reach the scene only to noticed what was left.

“What are you doing!?” Nurse exclaims trying to take his gun while the others try pull him away from intern.

“Do you not realize who you’re working with yet? You’re working with an anomaly.” He shoves them off him without hesitation. He takes a moment before responding casually as he aims to shoot him again.

“You know it’s not good to let an anomaly eat patients-“

“I didn’t, the patient was an anomaly. They tried to kill me so since my taser didn’t work I just used the monster under the bed to my advantage,” intern replied with a half-lie.

Secret agent eyes narrow- now fully aware of what he is trying to do- speaks once again.

“Do you think that I would lie?” He asks those near him. They all nod no.

“Nurse, Do you think I would shoot someone without reason?” She nods no.

“Then why all you still holding onto my gun?” Nurse freezes before letting go. He aims his gun right at intern, aiming right for his head. Meanwhile intern is sweating, out of all the possibilities of where he gets caught by someone, this is this worst one. He sees his finger about to click against the trigger, right before he does, interns says that last thing that he can think of to save his life.

“..Isn’t it usually innocent till proven guilty?..”

“…What are you talking about.” Secret agent responds, not seeing the point in something he already confirmed to himself. There was an awkward pause before Surgeon spoke up.

“Well… not that any of us want to doubt you but, you’re the only one who believes he’s an anomaly.” Everyone nods agreeing.

“It’d be kinda odd for an anomaly to help us out this much anyway, do you have any actual proof other than your word?” Nurse asks, her arms crossed. She respects secret agent fully for usually always being to the one to help them in situations like this. However she keeps speaking regardless, it’s hard to let someone shoot your friend.

Secret agent looks around, only seeing doubt in the room. If everyone thinks that he shoot an innocent guy who was only doing his job, they’ll avoid him. Even if they’re familiar co-workers at best, he’d feel sorry for them knowing all they saw was a friend. Realistically, they’d also make his job more difficult plus it just wouldn’t be a good look on him. He stores his gun away.

“Everyone who would like to do innocent till proven guilty, raise your hand” Secret Agent says. everyone but him does so.

“I guess I may have been a bit.. harsh, someone like me should at least have evidence before they do stuff like this shouldn’t they?” Secret Agent asks with narrow eyes, tail flicking with his hand to his chest.

“Yeah uh.. that’s right” intern responds, slightly uncomfortable with how much eye contact he’s getting.

“Then you won’t mind if I stay here for as long I want will you?” Secret agent says with a smile that comes off playful to anyone else but intern- who knows how the next few days will look like. “You shouldn’t me mind watching, after all if you not an anomaly you should expect me to protect you like everyone else here.” Secret Agent, tilts his head slightly getting close enough to him before placing a hand on his shoulder, it tightening every moment until he gets a response. “So then Innocent till proven guilty?” Secret Agent asks. “Innocent till proven guilty” Intern responds.
