Work Text:

“C’mon! I’ve never had a dancing partner before!”

Owen huffed. “You know this, Louis. I don’t dance.”

“Aw, please!” Louis whimpered. Owen snickered at the mayor’s pleads.

“Don’t laugh! I just really want you to dance with me!” Louis took Owen’s hands in his.

The lumberjack blushed. “Fine. If it’ll make you happy.”

Louis smiled brightly.

The mayor took Owen out to the center of his house.

“I don’t really know how to-” Owen started.

“Like this!” Louis took Owen’s hands and showed him.

Owen had two left feet, and kept on tripping over his own shoes, but Louis just kept on smiling and said that he was getting close.

The two laughed and laughed through the last bits of the afternoon and into the night.

“I sucked at that.” Owen sighed, sitting down.

“Nooo! You could never suck at anything.” Louis said sleepily. For a vampire, he always managed to get tired.

“Yooour face ‘s just too pretty so suck at anythings” Louis leaned against Owen and booped the lumberjack’s nose.

Owen chuckled. “Silly louis.”

“I’m not silly.”

“Sure, sure.” Owen said, patting Louis on the head.

“Maybe tomorrow I’ll show you how to dance properly.” Louis offered.

Owen smiled. “That would be fun.”

They didn’t get a tomorrow.

Late that night, Louis had offered to turn Owen into a vampire.

Owen accepted.

And when Owen awoke as a new vampire….

It was too late for his lover.

Owen sat atop the castle, black vampire blood dripping from his hand onto a small runestone-powered mirror.

A mirror that reflected memories.

It was a gift from Louis.

A drop of blood from a person or creature, and it could recall the memory that the person desired.

It was how Owen made sure he would never forget Louis’s face.

Owen lowered his head. “He never got to teach me to dance” the lumberjack muttered.

Owen cut his hand again, letting it drip onto the mirror.

“Louis. Show me all memories of Louis.” Owen said to the runestone mirror.

The mirror obliged.
