Chapter Text
Kurt lay in Wanda Maximoff’s bed,in the drafty castle she was holed up in with her father at the moment. He wasn’t supposed to be here…he didn’t even particularly like castles. But,she'd called.
He lay, staring up at the ceiling, and then at the tapestries on the walls. Wanda’s decor, not what originally adorned the castle walls. Kurt liked her tastes better. The velvet, and the stars, and the moths. Very pretty things. Like her.
Wanda sat at the foot of the bed, fidgeting with tarot cards.
“Do you really believe in those?” Kurt asked curiously. He knew her magic was real,he saw it often. She used it for the most mundane things…
“Mm?” Wanda glanced up at him.
“ I said, do you really believe in those?” He gestured at the cards in her hands. Her hands were so much softer than his, smaller, too.
Wanda laughed. “Oh” she said. “I dunno. Maybe. I think…I don’t think they control anything. And I think for normal people, they don’t really foresee much. But for me?” One of the cards was picked up by wispy red energy, and placed face down on Kurt’s chest. He picked it up and flipped it over. The Lovers.
She repeated this, twice, leaving him holding also The Fool and the Five of Wands.
“They usually do have something to say” Wanda finished. “Though,I never figure out what until after the fact”
Kurt laughed. “You’re going to get me in trouble, you know that? Heresy and whatnot,”He mumbled sleepily. He moved from his spot,to curl up near her. His head rested in her lap,and his tail curled around one of her legs.
“Mhm…Yes,I’m just the worst sinner in the world. Shall your kiss be my forgiveness?” Wanda remarked playfully,in the fakest british accent Kurt had ever hear.. She leaned down and left a quick kiss on his lips.
“Seriously, though.” She commented, her natural voice returning, settling her fingers in his hair. “I do think of you as my salvation,in a way.”
Kurt sighed happily, leaning into her touch. “You’re a bit dramatic” he yawned. “I’m not all that amazing”
Wanda rolled her eyes. This was a conversation they frequently had,and Kurt would always insist he was less than what she saw in him.
“Whatever you say, furball” She mumbled. “Don’t fall asleep. You need to head home soon.”
Kurt groaned. “Oh,don’t remind me!” He wailed. The trip back to the United States couldn’t be done in one jump. Last time he tried,he’d teleported onto a boat in the Caribbean. He’d since learned that the trip had to be made in many short bursts,to make the big jump across the sea easier. However, that meant he had to leave sooner than he’d like.
“It’s not so bad. You act like you never see me.” Wanda said.
“I do never see you,” Kurt countered, sitting up. “It isn’t fair!”
“I know, baby,” Wanda said. She wrapped her arms around him, encouraging him to relax against her. “I’ll come visit you next time, how about that?”
“If your intentions are good…” Kurt slurred sleepily, before giving up. He turned his head, and pressed little kisses against Wanda’s arm.
“They are.” She promised. “Everything is okay, for as long as you keep behaving yourself.
Eventually the amazing Nightcrawler dragged himself out of bed,and tugged his clothes back on. He swapped his usual rosary for one of Wanda’s necklaces,a habit they had when they knew they’d be away from each other for a long time.
Wanda walked with Kurt, through the hallways. He didn’t need to be guided out of the castle, but he was okay with delaying his departure for as long as possible. The pair found themselves in a more dead area of the castle garden. Apparently,Magneto didn’t have much of a green thumb.
“I hate leaving so much” Kurt grumbled in between goodnight-farewell kisses. He meant it too. In the past,he had no problem maintaining long-distance friendships, but leaving Wanda always felt like leaving part of himself. “I would really rather stay here, even if all you let me do was sit in the garden and kiss you goodnight until the sun comes back up.”
Wanda giggled. “Oh,now who’s being dramatic?”
