Chapter Text
‘Tell me… Do you ever a strange sadness as dusk falls? They say it’s the only time when our world intersects with theirs…’
Ah, the first few lines of dialogue from one of my most favorite video games of all time. What is it? ‘The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess’ of course! It’s been so long since I’d gotten it for my tenth birthday… But who knew that those very words symbolized how my life had turned all upside down.
How did happen it? Well, before we get into all of that… It’s time to talk about me some.
Hello, I’m Y/N L/N! I’m a human from a world and a planet called Earth. I’m a 23 year old female who’s only language is English. I’m a rather shy individual, who’s quite the introverted homebody and doesn’t have the greatest self esteem. Most days, I’m either playing video games, reading, or drawing. Those are my main hobbies!
I’ve been a long time fan of The Legend of Zelda series, ever since I was old enough for school. As mentioned earlier, Twilight Princess has been my long time favorite entry of the series. I’ll admit it, I do have the hots for TP Link. I could go on and on as to why I like him and his game, but that’s for another time. There was a period of time for around 8 to 10 years where my interest in the LoZ series was on the backburner due to getting interested in two other fandom. Shortly after Tears of the Kingdom was released was when I was starting to get interested in the LoZ fandom again. But something in particular refueled my love for LoZ again.
Around 3 years ago, I had come across a fanart either on deviantart or tumblr for a fancomic consisting of nine iterations of Link all gathered together to hunt down powered up monsters summoned by Dark Link. That fancomic being ‘Linked Universe’ by jojo56830. With it being full of Links, it caught my Link lover fancy. I’ve gotten pretty invested into it! I of course love Twilight just as much as I do with TP Link.
Though it was an unrealistic, childish, and selfish thought… I’d always wondered what it’d be like if I was ever warped to Hyrule. Sure, I’d miss a lot of things from the modern world and I’m in no way prepared to live there. But some days, I wanted a detox and a break from the people I was around constantly. Heck, even though it’d be more stressful, I wouldn’t mind getting warped into the world of Linked Universe.
Well, some sort of magical being must’ve heard my thoughts because one day…
…
Today, I felt like actually touching grass. Also known as going outside. It was surprisingly a decent temperature out despite it being summertime. What helped was that it was the hour of twilight, the tail end of sunset, so it meant that the sun wasn’t trying to bake everything. I walked a steady pace throughout the neighborhood, seeing people doing stuff just outside their homes or walking their dogs before the sun completely set.
I headed towards one of the communal playgrounds to sit on one of the benches nearby it. Smack dab in the middle of it was an odd dark purple wall. Uh… What the heck was this? Is it a portal? No, it can’t be. That is something straight out of fiction. I must be dreaming!
But why am I suddenly feeling a bit scared and uneasy? I pinched my arm and smacked my cheeks lightly. I felt that- this was apparently real. There was definitely something odd going on. Wait a second… this portal looks exactly like ones in the Linked Universe fancomic!
I definitely shouldn’t linger here, I don’t want to be swarmed by monsters that’d easily kill me. I started backing away slowly; and then a bush rustled. I was immediately on alert, but it was just a bunny. I turned around with a sigh of relief, but that relief didn’t last long. I was face to face with a familiar red eyed black Lizalfos.
I didn’t put much thought into it, I took off running. I heard hurried steps of scaled feet coming after and it screeching at me. I hope I get it off of my trail because I’m definitely out of shape! I tried to keep a steady and quick pace, but I could already tell I was running out of stamina. Gah, I’m like Skyward Sword Link with his stamina wheel meter!
Then Dink pounced me, knocking me to the ground roughly. I definitely got scrapes and bruises from that. I pitifully tried to fight him off, but he was definitely much stronger than me. He started dragging me towards the portal and I tried to squirm out of his clawed grip. He didn’t like that, so he clawed a sleeve off of my shirt. He didn’t actually injure me, but it was a clear warning that he’d injure me if I kept trying to fight him off.
He didn’t drag me gently to the portal; causing a few more scrapes and bruises. Once he got to the portal, he all but chucked me like a bag of soil into it. From the sudden influx of intense dark magic and the building pain of my injuries, I fell into unconsciousness.
…
Sometime later, I regained consciousness and was aching all over. With a groan, I shakily and stiffly sat up. I could immediately tell that I was somewhere different and that I didn’t recognize it either. It was a forest of some sort, and the temperature was noticeably a bit cooler. The air was definitely cleaner, and smelt and felt mystical. I had to be in Hyrule, but I had no idea as to which era it was.
After a few minutes, I stood up on my feet; my body protesting along the way. I needed to find some sort of shelter, hopefully in a village with friendly people. I hobbled along, keeping an eye out for wildlife, monsters, and signs for civilization. Someone must’ve hated me today because I encountered monsters. It was a swarm of Keese from Wild’s era.
I was in no condition to fight them off, even if I did know how to use a weapon. They kept flying into me and I tried to swing my arms to scare them off. But of course that didn’t work. I tried to dodge to the best of my ability while calling out for help. I was about to lose hope when I heard a shrill thwip! and suddenly an arrow pierced one of the Keese. That had to have been Link or an iteration of him at least.
One after another, the Keese fell down to the ground; dead from being shot by arrows. I turned around to see a group of nine familiar faces. The Linked Universe Links, nicknamed the Chain by fans! Wild happened to be at the front, shouldering his bow. He and the others walked up to me. They all started talking to me, asking questions. But…
“✌︎❒︎♏︎ ⍓︎□︎◆︎ ♋︎●︎❒︎♓︎♑︎♒︎⧫︎✍︎” asked Wild.
“⚐︎♐︎ ♍︎□︎◆︎❒︎⬧︎♏︎ ⬧︎♒︎♏︎ ♓︎⬧︎■︎❼︎⧫︎ □︎🙵♋︎⍓︎✏︎ 💧︎♒︎♏︎❼︎⬧︎ ♋︎●︎●︎ ♌︎♏︎♋︎⧫︎ ◆︎◻︎✏︎” snapped Legend.
Ignoring Legend, Wild mumbled thoughtfully out loud. “✋︎⧫︎❼︎⬧︎ ♋︎ ●︎♓︎⧫︎⧫︎●︎♏︎ □︎♎︎♎︎ ♐︎□︎❒︎ 😐︎♏︎♏︎⬧︎♏︎ ⧫︎□︎ ♑︎♋︎■︎♑︎ ◆︎◻︎ □︎■︎ ⬧︎□︎❍︎♏︎□︎■︎♏︎ ●︎♓︎🙵♏︎ ⧫︎♒︎♋︎⧫︎ ⧫︎♒︎□︎◆︎♑︎♒︎⑤︎”
Hyrule approached me with his hands glowing from his Life spell. “☟︎♏︎❒︎♏︎📪︎ ●︎♏︎⧫︎ ❍︎♏︎ ♒︎♏︎●︎◻︎ ♒︎♏︎♋︎●︎ ⍓︎□︎◆︎❒︎ ⬥︎□︎◆︎■︎♎︎⬧︎📬︎”
Being the easily startled individual I am, I flinched away from him.
Time held his hands up placatingly. “☜︎♋︎⬧︎⍓︎ ■︎□︎⬥︎⑤︎ ✋︎⧫︎❼︎⬧︎ □︎🙵♋︎⍓︎📬︎ 🕈︎♏︎❼︎❒︎♏︎ 🙰◆︎⬧︎⧫︎ ⧫︎❒︎⍓︎♓︎■︎♑︎ ⧫︎□︎ ♒︎♏︎●︎◻︎ ⍓︎□︎◆︎📬︎ 🕈︎♒︎♋︎⧫︎ ♓︎⬧︎ ⍓︎□︎◆︎❒︎ ■︎♋︎❍︎♏︎📪︎ 💣︎♓︎⬧︎⬧︎✍︎”
I had no idea what any of them were saying. They must’ve noticed my confused look because they suddenly had a rapid fire conversation amongst themselves. Then one by one, they asked me a question. I could tell it was the same question over and over, but in their Hylians. We were all about to lose hope of understandings being made until…
“Hey, doth thou understandeth me? Ya can justeth repondeth with an aye, ma’am!” Twilight asked.
“Y-yes! Thank goodness one of you can understand me!” I squeaked.
Thank the gods that Twilight’s Hylian is basically English! But good lord, the way it sounds. Why is it vaguely Middle English plus a southern twang?!?
