Work Text:

The Chosen One finds himself in the newsgrounds with his friend, The Dark Lord. Who could it be? It's not like hes allowed interaction anyway but it doesn't matter.

For the time in his life, The Chosen One has a fun time causing destruction. It doesn't sound like him, but lets enjoy the moment while it lasts.

He flew up and watched as The Dark Lord threw fireballs, destroying buildings. Hearing the others scream was exciting. He never thought he'd say words, it all sounded like a dream for a moment.

The Chosen One hovered above the burning streets, watching tiny figures scatter below. Every explosion lit up the sky orange, every scream echoed through the city.

He should have hated this. He should have stopped it. Instead he found himself smiling, the realization made his stomach twist. He quickly wiped his smile off. (idk how else to say it)

Turning his head he saw The Dark Lord laughing as another fireball soared from his hand and vanished into the city, maybe it was because he wasn't alone for once. Maybe it was because for the time in his life, somebody actually wanted him around.

Maybe he just didn't want to think about why this felt so good?

The thought was swept aside when The Dark Lord gave him a shove. The Chosen One blinked, feeling his consciousness come back. He was too deep in thought about something harmless.

The Dark Lord nudged him again before pointing toward a building on the verge of collapse, a chuckle escaped him as he hurled a fireball the blast striking true and sending the weakened structure groaning under its own weight.

For once in his life, The Chosen One didn't feel like stopping it. He simply watched, a little emotionless. The building. A cloud of dust billowed into the air.

Below you could hear stickmen scattered in panic.

Beside him, The Dark Lord laughed. The sound caught The Chosen One off guard. For a moment it felt familiar, more nostalgic as if he were remembering something instead of living it.

Like this moment wasn't meant to last. Like if he looked away for a second, The Dark Lord would be gone. The thought was ridiculous, pathetic even... Really. The Dark Lord was there! There's nothing to worry about right?

Still, The Chosen One found himself lingering on the sound of his laughter a little longer than usual. 'Might well enjoy the moment while it lasts', he guesses.

The Chosen One was starting to feel tired. The thick smoke hanging in the air was finally getting to him, leaving his head feeling strangely heavy. He opened his mouth to complain but before he could, The Dark Lord gestured for them to leave.

Looks like their fun was over. The chosen one froze for a bit, that felt odd. He hadn't said a word or better he didn't even show any signs to him yet. Yet somehow, The Dark Lord had known exactly when he'd had enough.

The timing felt too perfect, a small feeling of unease crept into his mind. He quickly pushed it aside and followed after him.

They slowly landed on the ground. The Chosen One steadied himself, letting the flames around his hands die out after using them to stay in the air.

Meanwhile, The Dark Lord landed with all the grace of a crashing meteor; completely opposite from him.

The Chosen One found himself watching for a moment, a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. Somehow despite how different they were, they fit together well.

This was all going well, well to be exact. This was almost not real for him.

The Dark Lord quickly tore open a portal, the type of portal they always use to go from one universe to another. The Chosen One remembers it; it's like a gateway. Why does he remember it if its happening right now? This is weird... Too weird.

He remembers this portal, specifically this portal. It's like he has already seen it in the newsgrounds. But he ignored it, trying to focus more on the present.

Normally, The Chosen One would've flown on his own. This time however, the force of the current was stronger than he would expect. Instinctively, he reached out; he knew he had to even though he hates appearing weak. The Dark Lord caught his hand without looking.

Like he already knew, which is normal maybe. Because of how close they're with each other because of how they were together, for 8 years straight he just knew. It was normal. He reassured himself.

Nothing strange.

Nothing strange all.

Very slowly, his vision started to become blurry. Initially, he assumed that it was due to the wind.

But then he observed that his vision was actually darkening, as if the world around him were becoming increasingly fainter.

No...

No, no, no, please-
He begged himself pathetically.

His hold on The Dark Lord's hand became tighter, tunnel vision started to flicker. Wind rushed past him more quietly than before. Fading. As if it was being drawn away from him.

Oh.

Oh....

It isn't real.

It is really just a dream. OF COURSE ITS JUST A DREAM! He was stupid for not believeing it sooner, how didn't he know from the start? The way he enjoyed the destruction was already weird, and he just... went past it.

The Chosen One woke up with a start. His head felt really heavy, something hard was pushing against his cheek. It was a keyboard, well it felt like it.

He slowly lifted his head, opened his eyes trying to shake off the sleep. The keys under him were old and familiar, a little too familiar.

He looked up at the monitor, there were viruses over the screen like memories that would not go away. He caught his breath.

No.... please..

This was The Dark Lords computer. It felt like someone punched him in the chest, his hands started to shake. He got up, then he stopped moving.

This was not just The Dark Lords computer, this was The Dark Lord's room. He was alone, in The Dark Lord's room. The dream was completely gone.

The warmth of The Dark Lord's hand was gone. His laughter was gone. The Dark Lord was gone.

The Chosen One's knees almost gave way. He stared, unable to look away.

His chest tightened painfully, and his breath caught in his throat. No. This couldn't be happening. His breathing grew uneven, and out of nowhere, a sharp breath caught up to his throat.

His hands began to shake tears burned at the corners of his eyes as he desperately tried to hold them back. A broken sound escaped him before he could stop it.

He covered his face as tears finally spilled down his cheeks. No matter how hard he closed his eyes, no matter how much he wished it wasn't true...

He should just face the reality, no matter how much he holds back these tears, no matter how much he tries to convince himself.

The Dark Lord was dead. He's so stupid for forgetting it.

For a few mean moments, The Chosen One had forgotten that The Dark Lord was dead.

The Dark Lord was dead, but he wasn't. The fact that Chosen can still feel his presence, smell his scent and more he couldn't think of, He's not dead. Please, he's not dead.

Like a desperate fool clinging to a truth that no longer existed, The Chosen One repeated the same thought over and over again.
