Okay, so I’m in college to be a librarian, so I thought this would be really silly. The premise is each organization running a public library and the shenanigans that follow.
Disclaimer: I am training to be a school librarian, so while I have learned a lot about public libraries, I will likely be incorrect about a lot. Also, I am in the U.S., so that will probably impact how things work.
So let’s first talk about the roles you will see organization members holding:
- Director: The person managing the library! From budgeting to communicating with the library board/stakeholders/etc to writing/enforcing policy to managing all library staff and major problems that arise, this person holds the most responsibility in the library
- Asst. Director: As appropriate according to the size of the library, someone may be hired to support the director in managing the library; for some organizations in this fic, the asst. director holds another role in the library
- Reference: This person helps patrons with their information needs by navigating the reference collection, online databases, and the Internet to answer patrons’ research or other questions
- Adult, Teen, and Children’s Services: This is pretty much what it sounds like; these people serve these specific populations by organizing and running programs, having reader’s advisory, and developing these specific collections (deciding what to keep, weed (remove), and buy)
- Outreach: This librarian will go outside the library to serve populations who are not usually able to access the library (homebound people, for example) AND try to bring people in the community to the library (such as school students or those in underserved neighborhoods) in a similar way to the above librarians; these populations may include
- IT: We need technology people to keep everything running smoothly!
- Clerk: This is the person you see and interact with the most at a library; clerks work at the circulation desk to primarily help patrons check books in and out, but they also handle a lot of day-to-day issues and answer questions as best as they can
- Page: People in this role sort and reshelve returned books, as well as maintain the shelves by making sure everything is straightened and in order
So, with that out of the way, let’s look at how I decided to organize each organization’s library. I'll provide a short explanation so that my choices might at least make sense.
ARMED DETECTIVE AGENCY
Director: Fukuzawa (this is pretty duh)
Asst. Director: Kunikida (again, duh; he’s the next ADA director)
Reference: Ranpo (he’s a know-it-all and that’s usually a bad thing because he’d be rude to patrons but I don't care)
Adult Services: Dazai (adult services require quite a bit of knowledge to keep the community informed, so this works for him)
Teen Services: Tanizaki (I think he’d be good at it idk)
Children’s Services: Atsushi (he would be good with kids I think)
Outreach: Yosano (I was running out of roles; this makes sense to me but I can't explain why)
IT: Katai (duh)
Clerks: Naomi, Haruno (they’re ADA clerks!)
Pages: Kenji, Kyouka (they’re young and this position is usually a part-time one for high school students)
PORT MAFIA:
Director: Mori (duh)
Asst. Director: Hirotsu (made the most sense to me)
Reference: Hirotsu (he’s giving wise)
Adult Services: Higuchi (very oriented on getting the job done)
Teen Services: Akutagawa (ok so this is literally just for sillies; my boyfriend said that he’s moody like teenagers and I laughed so that was a good enough reason for me to give him this role)
Children’s Services: Kōyō (I'm giving her the opportunity to guide children to success)
Outreach: Chuuya (again, idk how to explain this but it just clicks for me!)
IT: Kajii (i know science is not computers but I don't really care)
Clerks: Tachihara, Gin (they are fucking around at the circ desk)
Pages: Q, Elise, Karma (the kids)
**ok please don’t kill me for not including Rimbaud and Verlaine because I haven’t read Stormbringer; maybe I will bring them and others in later on
THE GUILD:
Director: Fitzgerald (tired of saying it, but duh)
Asst. Director: N/A
Reference: Poe (pretty knowledgeable)
Adult Services: Hawthorne (idk he doesn’t fit anywhere else)
Teen Services: Twain (he thinks he gets along with them)
Children’s Services: Steinbeck (he has a bunch of younger siblings!)
Outreach: Mitchell (I can’t explain it idk what’s going on with me)
IT: Lovecraft (because he’s lowkey hiding away)
Clerk: Montgomery, Alcott (they’re both interning here while in library school, deal with it)

Alright, I think that’s all the context you need to understand what I’m going to write! I have a few ideas, but feel free to let me know any ideas YOU have. I’m just having fun :)
