Work Text:

— I don’t think you should put me in your plans anymore

— I wouldn’t put my trust in him

—He and that guy and everyone else can fuck off

Multi jolted awake in the middle of the night, feeling suffocated, breathless, sweaty hands grasping sheets tightly, a heavy feeling on his chest - and that bulky wing of the crow that was covering him wasn't at fault. Aldo was laying next to him, half-asleep, shifting because of the sudden movement – Only mumbling something along the lines about protecting them and killing all the ‘bad guys’ - whoever that was - before returning to slumber.

He ran his hand through his dreads, disorientation wearing off, he noticed that the other side of bed was missing two people. Deciding on not giving it much thought before laying back down; it wasn’t unusual for them to be awake at different times, which also meant they could've been anywhere right now - from the room next door to an adventure to explore who knows where.

What he knew was the fact that he wouldn't be able to go back to sleep now, the nightmare leaving him wide awake. At the same time he didn’t feel like getting out of bed. He settled on admiring the crow next to him - returning under his wing, looking at him with that perceptive stare of his. Giving himself a chance to, once again, appreciate his features.

While unconsciousness softened Aldo’s expression and his usual sharp look was gone, one wouldn’t think he’s anyone else but a warrior – Though one would argue with the way he was hugging his pillow, drooling all over it.

He moved aside a few locks of hair from his face, gently brushing his nose with his fingertips, tracing, as they drift to linger at the space between his eyebrows. Left to wonder what could he be possibly be dreaming off. His palm moved, grazing along Aldo’s cheek before tilting on his elbow to lean in to place a peck on his forehead.

Multi laid back down, looking up at the ceiling – maybe he should give sleep another chance, closing his eyes to the sound of heavy droplets hitting against windows.

Wait

It was raining.

It was raining and both Quackity and Roier were nowhere to be seen. He sat upright, his eyes flicking between the empty space on their bed and the window. Hands squeezing tightly, his knuckles went white; only coming back to his senses once his own nails made him bleed. Shit.

‘I can’t be freaking out right now’ – Multi contemplated, like his thoughts weren’t in overdrive already. Getting out of the bed, he tried to take a deep breath to calm his mind. It had to do for now. There was no point in waking up Aldo right now, they could be somewhere inside – he could look for them himself. He should check on Nacho along the way too.

Quackity and Roier sat outside, shoulder to shoulder under the moon, which shined brightly across the sky, clouds slowly gathering over their heads. Talking the night away.

At some point, Quackity wanted to show off with blowing smoke rings into the air, last one blown into Roier’s face; who offended retaliated with taking a long drag, where smoke hasn’t even reach the bottom of his lungs before puffing it all back at him. Both painting annoyance on their faces, just to break these masks almost immediately - laughing their asses off.

— Eres un gilipollas — Quacks snorted, throwing the stub away before lightning another one.

— Carajo, you took the last one — displeased, prince shaked the empty pack dramatically, before tossing it away and redirecting his attention back onto the Avian;

Feeling his eyes on him, Quackity took his sweet time breathing in the smoke, dangling the cigarette between his fingers, playing with it, before looking back at him - eyeing him up and down. A playful smile formed on his face. His hand previously placed behind Roier moved to cradle the back of his neck, roughly pulling him in for a kiss.

Their teeth clashed together, smoke blown into prince’s mouth; who let it fill his lungs before returning the kiss. Their shared breath mixing with the hot smoke, which they refused to let go off, leaving it little to no space to escape - Roier gets back at him by tugging onto his arm, other hand searching for Quackity’s to steal the cigarette - their hungry exchange slowing down, lips parting till the whole mingled air left, leaving only their own breath - last trace of smoke being the bitter aftertaste as they separated.

—Launching at me like that, you want me to choke Pendejo? — Roier snickered, cigarette landing between his lips almost immediately after.

— Yeah, too bad you learned how to not start coughing every time - Quackity faked his disappointment, which he got elbowed into the ribs for.

— Okay! i get it! you would rather see this pretty face suffer than to kiss it – prince matched his energy, getting up, throwing the stub away before trampling it and taking a few dramatic steps — seee? – he raised his hand and turned around — Even nature can notice how evil you are to me, crying out of pity — he clutched his hoodie against his heart.

Seeing that his little performance didn’t bring bigger reaction than a raised brow and a smile, he returned to sit on his previous spot. The drizzle that accompanied them quickly turning into a downpour.

— No mames, a second longer and i would be soaked

— Too bad you didn’t prolong your little show then

— Alright man whatever – resignated, Roier pouted and diverted his focus onto the scenery the rain gave them. They haven’t really gotten a chance to appreciate the rain before. Their banter died down as they sat in silence, leaning towards each other to rest their heads.

Their quiet moment was interrupted by a creaking sound coming from the inside, grabbing their attention.

— Who’s thereeee – Quackity called before catching eyes with the scientist — Multii! you’re already up? — he added, straightening slightly. — Ohh and you got Nacho on you — He lowered his voice when he noticed the baby carrier on him.

Multi hasn’t answered right away. Actually he hasn’t answered at all. He just stood there, not moving, not breathing, just staring.

— Are you - — before Quackity could ask about what’s going on, Multi practically launched himself at them, hugging them tightly, practically crushing the little egg he had on him.

—- Dada — the small voice made him loosen his hold —- Sorry Nacho — he cooed, patting his head — go back to sleep okay? – he placed a forehead kiss on him as he sat down on his knees. The egg complied, too tired to second guess his father.

Multi raised his head to meet with two very concerned gazes.

— What happened Multas? Everything alright? – Roier was the first to break up the silence, wrapping his hand around Multi’s arm, attempting to ground him — Pendejo, you're trembling, talk to us — He could tell from Multi’s expression that he was looking for something, scanning the place, studying their faces as if he was searching for anything that might be wrong.

Apparently he hasn’t found anything since his posture visibly relaxed — I was worried — his voice barely audible over the pouring rain — It’s started raining and you were nowhere to be seen- I thought -I — He stuttered over his own words. Quackity shifted to wrap his arm around him, letting him rest on his shoulder.

— Hey, we’re here, all fine, right księżniczko? — Quacks gushed while drawing circles on his back, watching him, and giving him a reassuring smile when their eyes meet.

— We need to do something about that trauma of yours Doc, rain shouldn’t be a reason for you getting all paranoid — They all rose their heads at the sound of the voice above them, meeting with the soft look of Aldo — What? I tend to take notice when all three of my boyfriends leave the bed — he added, crossing his arms and opening one of his wings to shield them from the very few raindrops that reached them.

— I’m so glad you are okay; It just that every time something bad happened, especially the kidnappings.. It was- It was raining. – He scratched his neck, an embarrassing blush creeping onto his cheeks.

— We are fine thought, no matter what happened, or what may happen, we are sitting here, all alright — Roier noticed, resting his head on Multis shoulder.

— Right, the fact we are alive after all that just proves that they can’t get rid of us — Quackity grinned — and as much as I love all the attention I am getting when I go missing.. — he leaned back to rest on the leg of the man standing behind him — I’m independent enough to take care of myself y’know? No need to get all paranoid about it.

— I was about to say that there’s no point in worrying when everyone is fine, but what the fuck are you talking about Quacks? — Aldo knee-kicked him from his position — of course we’ll worry when anything happens, especially when we don’t know what’s going on — he crouched down, resting his hand on the head of the avian, rustling his hair

— You know, we are aware that you can fight – Roier send him an empathetic look — and you’ve been through a lot, of course we’ll worry

— Calling me paranoid as if you aren’t the reason for that — Multi nudged his shoulder — Kaczucha, I could lock you in the safest place on earth and you would find a way to hurt yourself

— Okay now why is this play about me – Quackity laughed nervously, trying to shrug the concerns off like it was nothing — Geez it’s raining and we are fine — he attempted to change the subject; fortunately for him Nacho didn’t seem to appreciate their constant chatter, tossing around in his carrier — Dada, out — he finally blurted, having enough of them.

— Ah, yes sorry Nacho — Multi answered, letting him out — There you go buddy — he said as he patted him on the head.

But Nacho didn’t seem to want to go to his room anymore, staring into the field – It was still pouring, giant droplets collecting into already formed puddles, creating a rhythmic pattern. He ran into the rainfall, before the adults could even think about bringing back the conversation; yelling for his father and uncles to join him while he was jumping from puddle to puddle, and as much as Quackity wasn’t particularly fond of that egg, he was glad it was here right now; him being the first one to run after Nacho - joining him in sloshing the puddles away.

Others followed shortly after, and before they knew it they were all running around in the rain that accompanied them - racing each other, laughing about everything and nothing at the same time. The heavy droplets muffling the usual sounds around them, leaving only the rhythm of their footsteps and occasional splashes of puddles.

They ended up lying in the tall grass on the hill, letting their own faces feel the change between the pouring, to the drizzle to the lack of rain. The cool, crispy air washing away their worries; Nacho jumping around them,

Maybe they’ll truly be okay in the end.
