Chapter 1: Day1

Chapter Text

Saturday, 12:04am.

I was told by a coworker that writing things down can help with pressure relief and self expression; considering our demanding position. I didn't really listen to him at first; but at this point, I have nothing to lose. Might as well start a journal, or whatever.

Small opening.

The missions I take on the daily are more than exhausting. They're traumatizing, even. I should be used to all of this by now, none of this should still effect me this much for the time I've worked here, but time passes I find it harder to convince myself that any of this is normal. So many levels to explore every day, objectives to complete, entities to encounter and occasionally exterminate. All of this just to study and 'fully understand' what I think should've never been discovered in the first place.

The M.E.G., which stands for Major Explorer Group, is basically an organization that specializes in gathering information about the backrooms, aka whatever the fuck these otherworldly series of places are. We hope to explore very 'level' we can possibly find. Levels are basically vast networks of anomalous liminal spaces that are connected with one other through by no-clipping. Although, we don't really no-clip. We use transportation technology that I still have no idea how it works. Sometimes these places can look oddly familiar or even nostalgic, others are beyond confusing and some not even the human consciousness can properly comprehend.

Our goal is to know more. See more. Meet more. To fully understand how, why, where and what.

I have no idea how our transportation technology works, which sometimes concerns me. We travel between levels using an elevator. I literal elevator. I havs no fucking idea where it's comnected to or how the hell it works. I suppose there's a very complex explanation behind it, but whatever. It's most likely for the best of us to keep information as such top secret.

We are required to wear hazmat suits, of course. Protection comes first. We have light sources installed on our suits and oxygen available to travel through our masks at all times. All skin is covered when wearing full gear, we can never be sure the environment we will face will be safe. It's the protocol, which I totally agree with (atleast on the attire part).

I'm tired. I'll write more tommorow. There's quite a lot of things I wanna cover.
