"You could come with me. We could find Ash together, "Eiji whispers, eyes not quite meeting Yut Lungs. "I know you still care. You wouldn't have taken me if you didn't."
Yut Lung almost scoffs at the words. Whatever it was the three of them had back at Dawson's house, it was over. Yut Lung had made sure of it when he betrayed them. There's no universe they'll ever forgive him, he's sure of it. "You don't want my help. Ash certainly doesn't, if he's even still alive."
"He is."
And God, Yut Lung wants to believe him. There's such certainty in his face, and any other time, it would have eased any doubt in his mind. "I hope you're right," he finally says.
They stand like that for a few moments. Yut Lung wonders if this is the last time he'll ever see Eiji, this boy that's given him the closest thing to love since his mother was killed.
He realizes too late that he's started crying, and as tears roll quietly down his cheeks, he feel's Eiji's arms wrap around him. And it breaks him.
Yut Lung buries his head against his shoulder, and let's himself cry, loud and ugly. In this empty street, there's only Eiji here to witness his vulnerability. It's shameful, but he'll take what he can from him.
Eiji's fingers run gently up and down his back, soothing his cries. Eiji pulls away, his hands holding onto Yut Lung's arms. "I understand if you can't come with me now, or if you're just not ready. But you're always welcome in my life, alright? No matter what you've done."
