Chapter 1: A Couple More Hours

Chapter Text

Sky’s POV

The red neon lights of the bar barely lit the alley against the menacing night.

Sky looked down at his shaking phone “Usual place at 11 pm, baby. Wear the red crop top that I got you. - P’Gun”

Breath in.

Pulling down the fading grey long sleeves, his only barrier against the chilly night, Sky walked closer, ignoring the involuntary shiver down his spine. The stoic pair of bouncers at the door glanced at Sky, nodded then pushed open the double doors.

The heavy cocktail of alcohol hit Sky at once. It used to intoxicate him immediately, but he got used to it. Just like the burns. And the refusals.

Sky shook his head to clear the haze.

Gun was in the raised serving area of the bar, adjacent to the dance floor.

Petch, Gun’s best friend, smirked at him and whispered to Gun.

Sky scrambled to greet Gun hoping to appease his anger. P’Gun didn’t like it the last time he was late and doled out a burning punishment to ensure Sky’s scar would serve as a reminder.

The next day, Sky had a hard time justifying a long sleeved jacket in the Bangkok heat to his friends.

“P’Gun” Sky panted heavily. Gun was swaying his hips and gesturing wildly with his arms holding a bright red mixture in his hand. Gun spun around, giving Sky a toothy grin which immediately turned into a frown.

Sky felt his heart drop.

Please no.

Gun walked towards him, eyes narrowing, like a hyena.

No. No. No

“Sky, what are you wearing? “ Gun grabbed Sky’s arm, pulling him closer as Gun towered over Sky, “I told you to wear the shirt I bought you. Or do you not like any of your boyfriend’s gifts? Are they not good enough?”

Phew. “No, P’Gun, I just wore a jacket because it was chilly,” Sky frantically explained, zipping off his battered jacket revealing a ripped cherry top that slung off one shoulder. Sky immediately shivered, hugging himself as the air conditioning hit him at full blast.

“Sky, relax there’s still a long night ahead.” Petch encouraged “Here, take a drink and let loose” pointing at a variety of drinks at their table.

“It’s alright, P’Petch, I’ll get myself a drink” Sky hurried off to the bar.

“Excuse-me” Sky directed toward a man whose back was turned.

“Oh, hey! “ A petite man cheerfully greeted “Non-alcoholic but a sweet tooth?”

Sky giggled “Yes, on P’Gun’s tab”

Sky liked this bartender. He had gentle eyes and a calm smile, unlike the others who would flirt as they made the drinks. He was quiet, content to let Sky take a moment to himself.

As the bartender was making his drink, Sky looked around the club. The music was loud and the tables were almost filled, the dance floor was nearing capacity as expected of a Friday night.

Sky took his drink and made his way through the crowd trying not to bump into anyone back at P'Gun's table.

P’Gun and a couple of his friends were doing shots. Gun slung his arm over Sky’s shoulders. Sky sat closer to Gun, carrying his weight and trying to get warm.

Gun was hollering with his friends and dragged Sky to the dance floor.

As Gun slipped his hand on to his waist, Sky tried to smile back.

Breath in..

Just a couple more hours.
