So that’s how it ends.
That’s where this whole thing ends.
Blood started pooling around Verity’s feet, he was still trying to process what just happened.
Verity barely even had time to react to what Mob did, he didn’t even have a chance to stop him or convince him.
Mob’s body lay there, eyes lifeless, yet his body was still barely twitching. Everything was coming back to Verity, everything was starting to process, starting to make sense.
“Mob? This… has to be a joke, right?” Verity took a step closer, “You’ll just respawn, right??”
He’ll respawn, he has to. Verity immediately went back to their base, transformed into his plum form, and laid on Mob’s bed. He’ll respawn.
Verity set his head down and took a slow breath in.
He knew Mob’s scent was already fading.
“Maybe he did respawn… and he’s just… he’s just running back!” Verity told himself, standing back up and reverting back to his humanoid form.
Running outside, he looked around. He searched desperately, but found nothing.
Mob never respawned.
Verity returned back to where Mob’s body was, the blood had spread further. He felt himself shaking. He shouldn’t care this much, it happens to everyone. Everyone always leaves him, Mob shouldn’t be this different.
Oh, but it was that different. Mob stayed the longest. Mob actually asked him more questions than just “Which enchantment is best for my gear?” “Where are the closest diamonds?” “Where’s the closest village?”
Mob had actually shown the most care compared to all the others.
Verity had turned into his plum form and had loafed on Mob’s chest. Verity was supposed to just be an AI, a helper guide. But here he was, crying over someone he’d know would leave eventually.
And this is how it ended.
More brutally than he’d expected.
“So that’s how this whole thing ends?” Verity whispers, “Just like that?”
