Chapter 1: Sakura arrives at Makochi

Chapter Text

What Haruka Sakura got from the town of Makochi wasn't what she expected at first.

They were... nice to her.

She had originally gone there to finally get away from the abusive and neglectful orphanages and foster families, but she ended up with a found family that would trade the world for her.

Sakura was walking past the unfamiliar buildings of Makochi when she saw a young, brown-haired woman being harassed by some weird old perverts who were trying to overwhelm her.

She placed her hand roughly on who appeared to be the main guy's shoulder and said something in a low voice.

''If you're gonna embarrass yourself, dont do it in broad daylight.'', she warned.

''Huh? Who're you? And what's with the look, freakshow?'', the man scoffed as he turned to look at her.

''Stay outta my way!'', he shouted before trying to throw a punch at her face.

Sakura ducked in time before swiftly landing a punch on the guys face.

The laughter came to a stop when one of the men was on the floor with a bloody nose, standing above him was Sakura who looked like she had had just enough of these weird men. Within the blink of an eye, the rest of the men were unconscious on the ground.

She looked down at the bodies below her once more before walking away.

The brown-haired woman stopped her before she could walk any further.

''Hey you! Thanks for saving me back there. In return, you are coming with me!'', she said, dragging her by the arm.

''W-what are ya doin' lady!?'', Sakura yelled, pulling her arm to try and break free. ''Lemme go!''

They finally stopped at a place called 'Pothos'. Apparently, it was owned by the young woman, who was named Kotoha Tachibana.

''Sit. I'll whip something up for you in a bit!'', she promised as she began cracking the eggs she had bought.

A few minutes later Kotoha presented Sakura with an omurice with a few veggies on the side.

''Eat up, it's on the house.'', she said sliding over a spoon for her to dive in.

Sakura hesitantly picked up the spoon and shoveled up a piece of the food and took a bite.

Blown away by how good it was, she shoveled more and more spoonfuls of the omurice in her mouth Kotoha thought she was going to choke!

''Now that I look at you... You definitely have some interesting features. Did you dye your hair or is it naturally like that? And your eyes, now that's a mystery! Ones like a pretty marble, and then the other one looks kinda like an olive. In a way a good way of course!'', Kotoha added because of the glaring look Sakura was giving her.

No one's ever complimented her before– especially like that!

''Oh yeah?! What's it to you?!...'', she blushed but desperately trying to hide from Kotoha.

''Anyway, I heard there was a newcomer in town recently and they moved into this run-down 'apartment' place, if you can even call that. What I'm tryna say is, I've never seen you around here before, and if I'm correct you live in a pretty sketchy area so I'm just worried.'', she stated, wiping some dripping dishes clean.

''W-why the hell are you worried about where I live and about my safety!? I don't need you Goddamn worrying!'', she spat back at her.

Why is she worrying about her safety? They just met!

''I-I'm leaving. See ya.'', she stammered before closing the door behind her in the café.

''Bye! Have a safe trip!'', Kotoha waved as she heard a muffled ''Shut up!'' From behind the door.
Sakura decided that this town was full of weirdos and walked out of the café.

''Uh, uh, uh, you aren't goin' anywhere, princess!''

''Nah, she ain't no damn princess! Just look at her!''

''Weirdo!''

''Cosplayer!''

''You messed with our gang, so now you gotta pay the price!''

Some of those creeps from earlier huh? Well, they're pretty weak so this won't take long!

One of the men lunged at her, nothing she can't handle. A flying fist to his face and he was K.O'd.

They kept coming, and not by themselves either. Sakura was in a 1v3 more often than not.

With only a few guys left and a few hits landed on her a few of them pulled out knives.

''Sakura!–'', she turned her head to see a familiar face being held with a knife to her throat.

''What the hell are you doing you moron!'', Sakura yelled as she ran to Kotoha.

''You know it isn't nice to bring knives to a fist fight!''

She grabbed the knife and twisted the guy's arm to force him to drop it and punched him in the gut causing him to drop to his knees, clutching his stomach.

''Stay behind me.''

Why was she even helping her?! Helping other people has never benefitted her in the end! Dammit!

As she continued to fight the men off the guy who had the knife reawakened and reached for the blade and slit sakura's ankle.

''Shit!''

Another man charged at her with a metal bat.

This is what I get for helping people! It was never my thing anyway so why did I help?

Instead of hearing a metal bat clank! on her head but felt... nothing? Sakura couldn't believe her eyes– she had to be protected– to make it worse by a man!

''You both okay? Kotoha?'', the man asked.

Kotoha's eyes lit up seeing him. Just who the hell is he anyway!?

''We'll take it from here.''

Sakura watched as he turned around and started fighting off the men with ease along with the three other boys he brought with him.

What is she just standing there for?! Why can't she move her body?! She's not gonna be protected like she's a weakling!

Sakura didn't want to be left out of the fight so she tried to fight but the blonde man shouted at her.

''Stop dancing around! It makes you protect!'', a man shouted taking on the other guys.

Sakura stood there, not putting much pressure on her ankle, as she watched others tell her what to do.

''You know, this town used to be crawling with gangs and fights every day; that is until 2 years ago.'', Kotoha spoke up.

''Some knucklehead and his friends over at Furin put a stop to it. They were–and still are–the town's heroes. You know what the first thing they did was? They put up a sign on the edge of town saying that anyone with bad intentions will be purged. They even got a new name: Bofurin a.k.a, the Wind Breakers!''

As the tall, blonde man took down the last guy, the townspeople slowly came out of their homes and gathered around the group.

Why were they all wearing the same jacket? Where did they come from in the first place?!

The blonde-haired man took a deep breath in.

''ANY ONE BEYOND THIS POINT, WHO BRINGS DESTRUCTION, WHO HOLDS EVIL IN THEIR HEARTS... THOSE PUNKS ARE GONNA GET PURGED, BY BOFURIN WITHOUT EXCEPTION!''

''Oh, seems you're bleeding, dearie. Here, let me help patch you up.'', an old woman stepped towards Sakura holding a first aid kit, and bent down to patch up her ankle.

Why does she care about her?! It's just a tiny cut, she won't die!

''Get away from me!'', Sakura yelled in fear, backing away from the elderly woman.

Kotoha gave a soft smile before kneeling down next to the granny and taking out some gauze.

Why aren't they looking at her in disgust? In disappointment? In resentment?

''Y'know, it's okay to trust others sometimes. You're alone but I can tell you didn't willingly end up that way. So please, look us in the eye as we do to you.'', Kotoha said, that genuine, soft smile still present on her face.

''Everything okay, Kotoha? Who's this?'', the blonde-haired man spoke, his voice softer than before.

''Sakura, this is Hiragi, Hiragi this is Sakura. She's new to town. She's also one hell of a fighter, but you can probably tell that much. '', Sakura was already a blushing mess but Kotoha continued.

''Maybe you can ask Ume to recruit her for Furin?'', she nudged Hiragi, who was already taking some Gas-kun 10.

''Hell, that idiot, Umemiya, might actually say yes.'', he said, putting the medicine back in his pockets.

''I'm going home.'', Sakura muttered as she began walking off.

''Hey, Sakura! I'll have a plate of omurice waiting for you tomorrow morning, so be sure to drop by!'', Kotoha waved.

''Y-yeah, whatever!''

''Wow, I didn't know a person could get that red!'', the brown-haired woman giggled.

''Are you sure that girl beat up all these guys?'', Hiragi asked, looking at the scattered unconscious bodies on the floor.

''Yep.'', she said. ''Do you see anyone else around who could've possibly done this?''
