A Detective’s Greatest Blind Spot

Summary:

Yuan Hong can solve the most complicated cases in the city, but apparently he cannot figure out the simplest mystery of all: what Zhao ShaoShang likes most.

Work Text:

When, during the investigation, they accidentally ran into an old acquaintance of Yuan Hong’s from the academy, Zhao ShaoShang was, of course, not pleased. Especially because of the closeness that existed between the two of them.

Was he jealous?

A stupid question.

Of course he was jealous.

When they got into the car, he intended to demand answers, but his unfortunate lover decided it was the perfect moment to offer the woman a ride. Even worse, he actually remembered her preferences and offered her a bottle of cola.

Zhao ShaoShang was officially offended.

When the woman got out of the car with her nose held high, he turned to Yuan Hong and asked:

“Do you know what I like?”

Yuan Hong looked surprised by the sudden question. However, he quickly began searching his memory for something Shang might like.

He listed the names of various dishes they had eaten together, and Zhao ShaoShang laughed when he saw his sincere attempts. The answer was obvious, but apparently the best detective in the city was unable to solve such a simple mystery.

As his consultant, he had no choice but to help him. That was his job, after all, wasn’t it?

Zhao ShaoShang grabbed Yuan Hong by the collar of his shirt. He pulled him closer until their lips collided in a short, but breathtaking kiss.

“I like you, idiot,” he said, before pushing him away with all his strength, causing the startled Yuan Hong to lose his balance and hit the back of his head against the car window.

Fortunately, Yang DeZhi, who was sitting behind the wheel, managed to keep his composure. Otherwise, they might have ended up crashing into another car or a building. Luckily, this was not the first time he had witnessed such behavior from Young Master Zhao.

Yuan Hong smiled foolishly while rubbing the back of his head. He had no intention of complaining about the treatment he had received. After all, being numbed by a kiss was the best painkiller he had ever tested on himself.
