Work Text:
Mitsuru stared at the papers on her desk. They covered various aspects of the Kirijo Group, each division’s expenses, revenue, who reported to who… all important things that she needed to know, now that she was technically at the head of it, but she had been staring at similar papers and having meetings-that-could-have-been-emails about them for the past several days, so she was finding it hard to focus on the ones in front of her now.
The door opened, and Misturu turned to tell off whoever had entered without knocking, but her annoyance vanished when she saw that it was Akihiko. He didn’t need to knock.
“How are you doing?” he asked, tilting his head at the paperwork. “More Kirijo Group stuff?”
“I am,” Misturu responded, allowing herself a sigh. “Understanding the company is necessary so that I can be a competent successor to Father, but dealing with it all is… tiring.”
“Yeah,” Akihiko nodded. “I can imagine. Listen… when was the last time you took a break from all this?”
“I… haven’t really taken a break. But there is just so much to do-!”
“Mistsuru. Your father died less than a week ago, and that’s on top of what happened to Shinjiro. It’s okay if you take a break… why don’t you just sit with me for a while?”
“...Alright.” Mitsuru stood up and went over to her bed. Akihiko was right, she really did need some time to herself. And it’s not like she needed to finalize everything to do with her father’s passing immediately, just… soon.
Akihiko joined her there, and draped an arm around her shoulders, and Mitsuru immediately leaned into it. The two of them had always been more physically affectionate than was normal for friends, and she hadn’t realized how much she had missed it.
Akihiko leaned in. “Mitsuru… I just want you to know, I’ll always be here for you okay? No matter what you need.”
“Thank you,” she muttered back. “And… that goes for you as well, Aki.”
He smiled at her. “I know.”
