Norah was sitting on a couch in a crowded room, at some party of some guy she couldn't be bothered to remember the name of. Not that it mattered anyway, because Lynn had invited her. Apparently she managed to not fuck up all that royally, after all.
She had apologized. Over and over again, until Lynn had given in.
She had apologized with flowers, with little gifts, talking through tears. It was gooey and emotionally vulnerable bullshit she wouldn't usually have done. Under no circumstances. But for Lynn, well... For Lynn, maybe she'd made an exception.
She didn't know why it had meant so much to her to make things right, but it did. And when Lynn had finally heard her out properly, and cautiously agreed to start talking again, she had almost jumped in joy.
So here she was now, sitting on the couch in that stuffy room, watching Lynn trying to roll a joint. The girl was failing spectacularly, really. Norah faintly remembered Lynn telling her that she didn't smoke and barely even drank, but apparently things changed. Not that she minded. Sharing cigarettes with Lynn was probably the most exhilarating feeling she'd ever experienced.
There was a man next to Lynn, laughing and leaning too close, trying to show her how to properly roll that joint. It made something stir in Norah's stomach, something she couldn't quite figure out yet. It was not a pleasant feeling. Maybe it was just the alcohol, she figured as she clenched her jaw, watching the man practically breathe down Lynn's neck.
They were all sitting on the same couch, so it wasn't really hard to get to Lynn. Norah shifted over to the two, pretended to make space for someone else. Lynn didn't seem overly thrilled about the man's presence, that much Norah had gathered already, and she looked up when Norah shifted closer to her, expression softening.
"Hey,"
Norah said lowly, clearing her throat. God, why was she so awkward? Why was this so awkward? She could feel the man's eyes on her now, as well.
"You're doing it all wrong," she murmured softly, leaning closer to Lynn.
"Yeah? Would you show me?" Lynn asked, holding out the half-rolled joint towards Norah.
"Mhm," she hummed, "C'mere."
"Hey, actually we were just–" the man started, earning an impromptu death glare from both women.
"Shut up. Clearly you don't know how it works, either." Norah deadpanned, raising an eyebrow at him. He sputtered a bit, then grumbled something under his breath and turned back to his other friends.
"Thank you. He was annoying." Lynn huffed softly.
"I could tell," Norah muttered, shifting closer once again. How close was too close?
"Okay, so..." Lynn pulled her legs up to on the couch, watching Norah roll the blunt. It looked so much easier when she did it. Unconsciously, Lynn leaned against Norah's side as the brunette explained what she was doing.
Norah almost went rigid at the close proximity, but immediately forced herself to relax again. She faltered for a second, the explanation dying on her tounge.
She could feel Lynn against her. She could smell Lynn. All her senses were focused on the other girl. Great. Not distracting at all, really.
After briefly stumbling over her words, Norah somehow managed to return to smoothly explaining what she was doing and what Lynn had been doing wrong. She should have been given an award for that, genuinely. It was extremely hard to focus with a gorgeous girl pressed up against her side.
"...and then you're done."
Norah put the joint up to her lips and pulled out her lighter from her jeans pocket. She lit it, took a drag, and handed it over to Lynn while blowing out the smoke. Just then she really realized how close they were. Well, that's fun. She could feel Lynn's breath. Okay. That's fine. Not a problem at all.
She watched as Lynn took the joint and took a drag. She watched as Lynn breathed out the smoke, the cloud of it surrounding them both. She watched as Lynn's lips parted slightly. Was she staring at Lynn's lips? Fuck.
They were so close. So, so close. Too close.
Norah heart stuttered traitorously in her chest, and she felt her breath catch. Right. Lynn was practically in her lap, with this proximity. The girl took another drag of the joint and Norah watched — a little too attentively — how her lips wrapped around it. She couldn't bring herself to look away.
She gently took the joint from Lynn's hand, taking a long drag. She needed to look away. Right now. The room was loud and stuffy and crowded, yet all Norah could focus on was Lynn. She needed to look literally anywhere else before she did something stupid. Something insanely stupid. Something so stupid that—
And then Lynn beat her to it. She leaned in and pressed her lips against Norah's, who still had the smoke of the joint in her mouth. Norah exhaled into the kiss, the smoke of their shared joint going into Lynn's mouth. That had to be filthy in some way. Yet, Norah didn't really mind. Couldn't bring herself to.
In a lapse of probably poor judgement, she pulled Lynn onto her lap, absentmindedly putting the joint out in the ashtray on the little table next to the couch. How she managed that, she had no idea.
Lynn was straddling her now, knees bracketing Norah's hips, and Norah has never felt so alive. No other meaningless fling with any man could compare to this. She felt a little light-headed. Though, that might just be the weed talking.
Norah's hands found Lynn's hips almost naturally, albeit she was a little shaky. Shaky? Why was she shaking? Oh good god, the weed was surely getting to her. That must be it.
She pulled back, looking up at Lynn with big, nervous eyes. Lynn stared back at her, eyes just as big. Well. At least she wasn't alone with her confusing emotions.
Since today already seemed to be a day of poor decisions for Norah, she leaned forward and started trailing kisses along Lynn's neck. The other girl brushed her hair to the side to give her more access, and Norah took it gratefully. She pressed kisses along Lynn's jaw and behind her ear, the spot she recalled that made Lynn shiver.
It worked, and Norah secretly prided herself in that. She trailed down further, sucking a little hickey into the side of Lynn's neck. The girl made a sound at the back of her throat at that, which Norah immediately wanted to hear again. She took her time, sucking at another spot and licking over it after, to soothe the ache. If that helped. She didn't really know what she was doing.
"Norah," Lynn murmured, breathless, "we're in public, still."
Norah made a small sound of disappointment, yet detached herself from Lynn's neck and leaned back. Her hands found their way onto the girls thighs.
"Right." She cleared her throat, then looked up at Lynn again.
"Fuck, you're beautiful," the sentence escaped her before she could stop it, like a half formed thought. She almost didn't realize she had said it out loud, but Lynn flushed a very pretty shade of red and smiled nervously.
"Well, uhm. Thank you." she mumbled, looking away for a second. But since she was apparently as weak as Norah, she looked right back at her not long after.
Norah was suddenly very aware of her surroundings. The party, the couch, Lynn on her lap. People were probably staring. She reached for her beer bottle on the small coffee table with the ashtray and took a long sip, just to try and cool down. She was running hot, she could feel it. She wasn't entirely sure of the cause.
She could feel Lynns eyes on her, still.
"Have I got something on my face?" Norah asked softly, after she put the beer bottle back in its place. Again, Lynn flushed that pretty shade of red.
"Well, uhm, no... I was just– I was just looking at you." Lynn goes quiet for a second, then one hand comes up to rest on Norah's cheek. She tenses, then immediately relaxes into the touch.
"You're so pretty."
Well. Shit. Norah goes very still. 'Pretty' wasn't usually the word people used for her. And yet, from Lynn, it sounded strangely pleasant. She opened her mouth to respond, but the words wouldn't come. She closed her mouth again. Open, close.
"I– thanks. Thank you."
"You're welcome." Lynn was still smiling at her. She looked so soft. Did Norah deserve that? After she fucked up that bad? She didn't know. But Lynn's smile drowned out her worries.
"I really wanna kiss you again," she blurted out suddenly, surprising even herself with the honesty. Good god. Apparently her brain had melted into a puddle.
"Is that– uhm. Is that alright?"
Lynn stared at her for a few seconds and Norah could swear she forgot how to breathe. Then, Lynn nodded once. Norah immediately took the chance to lean up and press their lips together. She was so gone, she knew. Probably had been since their first encounter in that elevator.
They broke apart again once the lack of oxygen became an issue.
"I think we should get out of here," Norah murmured against Lynn's lips, who nodded in response. Reluctantly, she got off of Norah's lap and started saying goodbye to her friends. Norah hovered behind her awkwardly, since she still didn't really know any of the people there.
Once they were out the door, Norah took a deep breath, inhaling the fresh air. Lynn fell into step beside her, hesitantly reaching out to grab Norah's hand. Then brunette looked down briefly, then took Lynn's hand into her own.Her heart was racing. She didn't think she'd ever been this nervous and simultaneously sure of something before.
"I– know I've already apologized. Several times. But, uhm– I'm still sorry, for everything. For breaking your trust. Your heart-? To some extend?" God, she was really bad with words. Lynn had to suppress a chuckle.
"What I'm trying to say is that I'd like to... maybe try again, if that's– if that's something you'd be comfortable with. You made me discover a lot of things about myself. Mainly why I never liked sex with men." Now, Lynn laughed out loud. Norah looked so adorable, all nervous and trying to be genuine.
"I would like that, Norah. Definitely." Lynn smiled, and she could see the relief washing over Norah's face. The brunette stepped closer, hands moving to Lynn's waist again. Lynn's hands come up to cradle the taller girls face.
"I'm– I'm glad." Norah muttered, nuzzling into Lynn's touch. They looked at eachother for a moment, before leaning in again and meeting eachothers lips halfway. The air was chilly, but Lynn's hands on her face were enough to keep Norah warm for days on end.
As they parted again, Norah's eyes flicked over Lynn's face.
"I think I'm in love with you, a little."Nshe whispered, chewing on her lower lip. Lynn's expression softened.
"A little?"
"Okay. Uhm. A lot, maybe."
"Maybe?"
"Shut up! You know what I mean." Norah grumbled, face flushing red. She promptly tried to hide that by burying her face in the side of Lynn's neck, who giggled softly. She ran her hand through Norah's hair, sighing.
"For what it's worth, I think I'm in love with you too. A little." She heard Norah groan in faked exasperation, but felt the girls giddy grin against her shoulder.
They had a lot to work out, but that could wait. For now, Lynn chose to focus on how warm Norah's body felt pressed up against hers, and the sense of security and happiness that came with it.
