Chapter Text
“You’ve seriously never had Starbucks before?” Parrot asked as he opened the door for Wifies.
“Nope, I make my own coffee.” Wifies replied, clearly bragging. Parrot rolled his eyes. If he had to hear about how Wifies ground his own beans by hand one more time he was going to do something violent. As to negatively reinforce him, Parrot stopped talking, creating the awkward silence he knew Wifies hated. Eventually to Wifies’s delight, they made it to the counter and Parrot was forced to give him an excuse to talk. Parrot ordered first.
“Hi, can I get an iced, venti, risotto shot, vanilla syrup, almond milk, vanilla sweet cream cold brew please?” He recited rolling his eyes back slightly to try to remember every last adjective of his favorite order. He stepped back and motioned for Wifies to order next.
“Coffee, black,” Wifies said, not even getting closer to the counter.
“Can I get a name for the order?” Eggchan asked. He was the guy on campus who seemed to work everywhere nearby. Whenever someone asked why he’d always say “I get paid in wisdom.” And then vanish. Parrot opened his mouth and was about to say something when he was interrupted.
“Wifies,” by all accounts the one with a full ride scholarship and a job with Microsoft should be the one paying, but Parrot always insisted on being a gentleman to Wifies and was clearly annoyed by this. Wifies paid and Parrot pouted as they waited for their drinks.
"You know, you’re not cool for drinking black coffee.” Parrot tried to poke at Wifies’s ego to no avail.
“I’m not trying to be cool, I like black coffee.” Wifies said grinning, after all, saying you aren’t trying to be cool is the coolest thing a person can do. Eggchan taught him that and it was working so far.
“Bro, you look like you’re in pain whenever you drink it.” Parrot argued, clearly falling for Wifies’s expert Ragebait. Wifies shrugged.
“I like it when it hurts a little.” He responded not realizing how bad it sounded out of context, especially to someone as dirty minded as Parrot, who had to hold himself back from laughing. There was a moment of silence between them, which Wifies hated, until against his better judgement, Parrot said the one thing that came to his mind.
“Kinky,”
Wifies burst out laughing, an incredibly rare occasion especially in public. Eventually he calmed down and wiped a small tear from his eye.
“Of course you’d care about my kinks.” Wifies snarked back.
“I don’t, you’re just always bringing them up.” Parrot tried to defend himself. He smiled a little, sensing a prime opportunity to tease his best friend. “You know, you’re really not subtle. I see the way you stare at people. The way your eyes dilate when you see Theo practicing.” He pushed out one of his wings, covering Wifies on one side, hiding his now bright red face from everyone but Eggchan, who over course sees all. “I mean first it’s the pain and now that. I mean what,” Parrot leaned in closer. “You into birds or something?” Wifies looked around panicked with only one hope left, who unfortunately for all of Parrot and Wifies’s friends, saved him.
“Order for Wi-fi’s.” Eggchan announced. Wifies pushed away Parrot's wing and dashed to the counter breathing and sweating heavily like he had just ran a marathon.
“Thank you.” Wifies gasped more grateful than he had ever been in his entire life. Parrot and Wifies walked out and Wemmbu approached the counter.
“The usual, Egg, and spell my name right this time.” Wemmbu ordered.
“No can do, we have to spell the names wrong.” Egg replied as he filled out Wemmbu's order on the tablet.
“So, get a load of Parrot and Wifies right?” Wemmbu tried to make conversation.
“Don’t forget, you and Zam weren’t so different a while ago.” Egg reminded Wemmbu who did in fact hate thinking of that point in his life.
“We weren’t that bad and at least we finally got together.” Wemmbu said, trying to defend himself. “Those two have been like that for years now.” Eggchan sighed. Wemmbu had a point.
“You two were in a river that flowed through Egypt, but for them, the Nile is flooding.” Eggchan stated as if resiting poetry.
“Why do you always talk in metaphors and crap?” Wemmbu asked.
“You’ll understand when you’re older.” Eggchan said, placing Wemmbu's drink on the counter with his name spelled “Wemboo” on the side.
“We're the same age!” Wemmbu screamed in annoyance on his way outside.
“Finally, you took forever!” Zam whined, greeting Wemmbu.
“Well, if someone didn’t annoy Eggchan to death, he could have come in with me” Wemmbu retorted, pinching Zam’s cheek.
Wifies was still shaken from Parrot's strange advance earlier. In order to finally get his eyes off of him (Parrot had noticed the staring but didn’t say anything,) he turned his head over his shoulders and noticed Wemmbu and Zam behind them. He remembered the just awful time the two had when they were in denial.
“Yeah, like I’d ever do that.” Wifies thought to himself before turning back to look at Parrot. His smooth face, soft hair, mesmerizing eyes, and large warm bright wings. He wanted to just hold him for a while, just be safe and comfortable together. Then it hit him and his thoughts shifted.
“Ah, crap.”
