“It’s too hot for this,” Koschei complained.
“It’s always ‘too hot for this,’” Theta shot back.
“That’s because it is!” they whined.
“You just have no heat tolerance,” Theta said, sticking their tongue out at the young Time Lord, who, in return, also stuck their own tongue out.
“I do have a heat tolerance. It’s just… not very good…” they trailed off.
“I know,” Theta rolled their eyes. “You act like a pathetic melting lump if we so much as step outside of the dorm rooms.”
“That’s because it’s too friggin hot!” they yelled. “It’s always too friggin got this time of year! And yet you still want to go to ‘the garden’ or whatever.”
“You didn’t have to come. I literally just said I wanted to go to the garden, and you insisted on tagging along,” they hissed. That shut Koschei up.
“It’s dangerous to go alone… and I don’t want you to be lonely…” they mumbled.
“You don’t want me to be lonely or you don’t want you to be lonely?” Theta retorted. Koschei scowled at them.
“It's not my fault we’re inseparable.”
“It kind of is, actually.” Koschei scowled at them again. Theta gave them a smug little smile and placed a chaste peck on their lips. “Now, now. No need to be so grumpy.” Koschei couldn’t tell if Theta was being Theta or they were patronizing them. Both, probably.
“Why do you want to go to the garden anyway?” they asked.
“Because the garden is nice and about community and I like taking care of it. And also the free food is pretty good.”
“Free food?”
“It’s a community garden. For the community. Of course everything grown in it is free.”
“I’m not dumb,” Koschei said.
“Then stop acting like you are,” Theta said like they were stupid. Koschei wondered for the thousandth time why they were in love with them.
“It’s hot. There are bugs. The air is sticky,” Koschei complained as Theta opened the door to the garden. Theta gave them a glare, one that meant that this was their last warning to shut up. Koschei obliged. “What are we even doing here anyway?” they asked.
“Well, I was just going to help around, but since you insisted on tagging along—” they wiggled their eyebrows and grabbed the other Time Lord by the shirt. Koschei barely had time to register what they meant before they were tugged into the dirt, rolling as Theta laughed. When they finally came to a stop, they stared at each other for a moment before their lips came crashing together, sucking and biting at each other’s lips, hands fisted in the other’s hair.
“I’m dirty—” Koschei stopped to complain.
“Don’t care,” Theta said, pulling them back into the kiss. It was ravenous, the way they kissed each other. Like their last meal on Gallifrey was each other. They broke away from the kiss, eyes heavily lidded and chests panting. “What ever happened to ‘it’s too hot’?” Theta said smugly.
“Oh, shut up,” Koschei said, resuming the kiss.
