Work Header

A Winters Night

Summary:

He Yu has a nightmare, Xie ge is there to help. SPOILERS for untranslated volumes!!!

Notes:

My first fic. Had to be about these two (this is mostly me trying out how I want to structure my fics).
I wanna write something other than a generic plot in the future, but enjoyed writing this instead of whatever I was meant to be doing.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Xie QingChengs body was warm.

Warm in the way that made his bones quiver with the tenderness of his situation. Being currently engulfed within the arms of his little devil, he was safe and able to be unguarded - yet needed. A luxury he wished he had granted himself sooner.

He Yu's breath was tickling him. The youth's lips pressed to the side of his head, as his sighs gently caressed the back of his ear.

Even in sleep, even with his arms and legs entrapping Xie QingCheng, He Yu reaches for his husband in the any small manner which he deems quintessential.

Cute. Xie QingCheng thought. Annoying. But cute.

“Xie-ge..”

Upon hearing his name Xie QingCheng startles and stiffens, He Yu subconsciously responds by holding him tighter.

“What is it dar—“

“How could you do this to me?!” He Yu shouts, voice thick with emotion and sleep.

What? Xie QingCheng is confused by this. Yet aware that He Yu must be suffering a nightmare of some sorts, slowly makes sure to take caution so as not to trigger a harmful response from He Yu.

“Shhh Darling, I’m right here. You’re alright shhhh” Murmurs Xie QingCheng, rubbing circles against He Yu's hand, tickling his palm gently as he attempts to sooth his little devil's discomfort. And it works for a few seconds, before He Yu’s cries intensify.

“What have they done? How could you do this to me?!” He cries again, this time followed with far more tears and punctuated by a watery voice crack - which sends a shock wave right through Xie QingCheng’s heart.

“He Yu!” Xie QingCheng yells out, willing to now wake up He Yu.
I can’t see him cry like this. Thinks the old teddy bear as he tries to save his lover from his own psyche.

“He Yu! Wake up, now!”

He Yu wakes up with a startle, his grip growing even tighter around Xie QingCheng, who after a matter of seconds is then turned around so he is face to face with He Yu.

He Yu’s hands tremble as they caress Xie QingCheng’s face. The little devil's eyes are still shaking with the weight of tears, with the weight and memories of seeing the love of his life’s body on the brink of death. Wheeled out to an ambulance. Pale.

IS HE DOING TO SURVIVE? He remembers screaming (even though the voice had sounded scarcely recognisable and saturated in brokenness and a willingness to die).
IS HE GOING TO LIVE? A shiver passes through He Yu at the memory of what he had witnessed. Of what his treasure had gone through.

“Xie-ge, are you cold? Whispers that still wobbly voice.

His tone is still so heartbreakingly cute to Xie QingCheng. Tragic. But cute.

My little devil.

“No, darling, I’m not.” Xie QingCheng reassures him.

“I haven’t been cold in months.”

A watery smile graces the still manically tragic expression of He Yu's face.

“Good.” He Yu softly chuckles, gently stroking hair away from Xie QingChengs face.

He’s so precious to me. He Yu thinks. His fingers moving to tickle Xie QingChengs checks, his fingertips tracing the wrinkle lines and hollow areas - which make his heart beat faster.

Every part of him is so gorgeous, he’s so gorgeous. My husband.

Xie QingCheng’s own smile is growing (as well as a small blush appearing, luckily covered within the darkness of their bedroom). Both of them are transfixed by this moment. Being held together by their past, by pain, by love.

Their legs tangle further, He Yu’s lens wrapping like vines around his treasure, Xie QingCheng’s arms moving to cradle the back of He Yu’s head and upper back, as their bodies tangle into a lovesick mess of limbs. Their foreheads meeting, eyes half lidded as they stared into each other's eyes.

“My Xie QingCheng… please, please don’t leave me.”

“I wouldn’t. I wouldn’t leave you. Not again, little devil.”

End <3
