Work Text:
You were pouting on the deck of the ship, waiting impatiently for your mama to come back. She said she’d only be gone a short while, and the nagging worries in your mind made it hard to focus on anything. You hoped she didn’t get into any fights, knowing you were all famous pirates. It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility, and only served to make you jittery.
Your pout quickly turned into excited beaming as you saw her rushing back to the ship with more bags in her hands than you thought one person could possibly carry. She looked elated, and you knew she always tended to be when it came to seeing you…and shopping in general.
“Hi baby!” She laughed, setting all the bags down quickly to lift you into her arms the second her feet touched the deck. Her giggles mirrored yours, and she rubbed your back excitedly. “I have surprises for you!” She gave you a spin, and gestured for you to rush back to your room. “I’ll be there in just a second!”
You didn’t question it, running excitedly to your room and bouncing on your heels in anticipation. It wouldn’t be the first time she bought you things, and you had to wonder just how many of those bags were for you, and how many were for her. Your mind raced giggling excitedly as you thought of what the surprises would be. Toys? Candies? Games? The possibilities were endless, and you knew it wouldn’t be long before you found out.
She shuffled into the room, setting each bag down. “Just so you know, I took extra special care to pick the best things!” She reached out and cupped your cheeks in her hands. “My baby deserves the absolute best!” Nami ran her thumbs along your cheeks, before booping your nose with her pointer finger.
It made you giggle and you muttered, “silly mama.” She gasped, placing a hand on her chest in faux surprise.
“I’m silly? What makes you think I’m silly?” But the corners of her mouth twitching into a smile told you all you needed to know. “What would that make you if I’m silly?” She took your wrist in her hand, looking it over dramatically. “No, see you have this little freckle riiiiight here. That’s the silly freckle.” She turned her arm to let you look, showing clear skin with no signs of the freckle in question. “Only silly people have that freckle, so that must mean I’m not silly!”
It made you laugh happily, poking her arms and cheeks. “No! Mama’s silly!” You barely managed to get the words out with how hard you were laughing. She most definitely was a silly mama, and even if she didn’t have the freckle, she had to be! But you weren’t going to fight her on it, not when you had surprises in those bags!
Nami sighed, shaking her head playfully. “But I guess I can’t keep hiding these gifts forever, so let’s get to it, yeah?” She grinned at you, lifting one of the bags and pulling out some clothes. They all seemed to be in your size, and some of your favorite colors, too! She obviously picked a couple orange ones, since she always liked to say it was similar to matching colors with you.
You gasped, running over and picking the clothes up from her arms. She had a mischievous glint in her eye, and kept handing you the clothes from the bag until you couldn’t see in front of you. You whined, trying to hold onto all of them. Though she seemed to take pity on you and grabbed the clothes and put each piece on the bed. They were sorted out by tops, bottoms, and full pieces. There was the occasional necklace, but the bags nearly entirely consisted of clothes in your size.
She clapped her hands in front of her, and mumbled, “time to get to work.” It settled in her mind, and she rummaged through to find any matching outfits she could. She’d hold them up as you stood beside her, as if placing them on you to find the best matches. Though after a few minutes of sorting, she patted your head. “These are going to look SO cute on my baby!” She practically squeaked, seemingly just as excited as you were.
Nami helped you take off and put on the clothes, stopping occasionally to tickle your sides. It took a long time, but neither of you cared. You’d do a little spin when you put on your favorites from the set, and beamed each time she complimented you. She had always been soft with you, and even though she could be tight with her money…she never once seemed to have issues buying you anything you wanted. Given it was at least remotely in reason.
That seemed to be overly apparent today, and while you didn’t see any price tags, you knew some of them probably cost a lot. She waved off any concerns, saying she’d spend every last beri she had if it meant buying you something you’d enjoy. It made you pout, but she wasn’t having it. She let out a sigh, and looked at you with a tender smile.
“Honestly, it’s not a problem. You’ve got a lot of big worries for someone so small.” She patted your cheeks, but flicked your nose lightly. “You’re the most important person to me…and besides, you buy me stuff too. If you wanna pay me back, just wear the clothes. It makes mama happy to know she got you something you love!” She laughed, leaning to kiss your forehead.
It seemed to settle all your worries instantly. You knew what she meant…because she’s the most important person to you, too. Ever since you met her, you knew you wanted to be with her. No matter if you were little or big, seeing her face light up when she saw you was more than enough to know you wanted to be hers forever. Knowing she had felt the same made your heart race, and always ended in sweet moments of tenderness and affection.
Even though it took hours to try on all the gifts she got you, it felt like no time passed at all. It wasn’t until some of the other crewmates were heard boarding the ship, that both of you realized you’d been trying on clothes and cuddling for hours. She shushed you, giggling as she pulled you down onto the bed to cuddle. She patted your head and rubbed your back, which made you yawn. It was an exciting day, and one full of affectionate words and sweet gestures.
Maybe when you were big, you’d try and get her surprises like this too. But for now, you were more than happy to fall asleep in her arms wearing an outfit that she picked out just for you.
