Before you leave me all alone (graduate)

Summary:

Fukurodani's last match finished as a loss. It is the end of Bokuto's high school volleyball career. There are no second chances, neither games to come. But for some people, this just can't be the end. Words need to be told and feelings need to be confessed.

In which Bokuto and Akaashi comfort each other because they lost the game and aren't mentally prepared to not play with one another again.

Notes:

Hello! This is my first fic ever and I'm so excited to finally share it! English isn't my first language so I apologize in advance if there is any grammatical mistake <3

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The ball hit the floor. The referee blew the whistle two times. The match ended.

Fukurodani had thirteen points, while Ichibayashi had fifteen. They lost.

“It was my fault guys, I’m so sorry. I needed to score that one last point. This is the Ace’s purpose after all, spiking balls with confidence and marking every point possible.” Bokuto said with a serious look on his face.

Hearing those sentences made Akaashi feel sick. What was he implying? That he wasn't a good ace? His childish behavior, the random mood switches or the silly things he did were merely inconvenients. Never a burden nor a big of a deal and, definitely, not the reason why they lost the game.

How could he feel not enough when he was the best player Akaashi’s eyes had ever crossed? When he was the star that shined the brightest? How could he feel insufficient, when he was … Perfect?

(Of course, “perfect” is not the most accurate compliment when it comes to Bokuto, knowing that he has a huge list of weaknesses. However, for the younger, his defects only made the senior more special  and, well, perfect.)

Akaashi wanted to stop him from saying that stuff. To tell him that their loss was nowhere near his fault or just comfort the boy, but it was, somehow, impossible. The words felt stuck on his throat alongside an insufferable pain, but this one, located on his heart.

Each time he opened his mouth, any sound could be heard, as much as he tried, the boy was a mess at the moment. His brain filled with things he could and should have done better during the game, like his tosses or the serve he missed. He wanted to help but what if he  said something wrong and just made things worse?

Furthermore, there was a part of Keiji who did not want to tell the older one to not blame himself. The reason for so is that taking this blame would make Bokuto improve not only as a volleyball player but as a person as well. Although Akaashi believed he was all the way a complete and great ace, this action was necessary for him to become the greatest, and this, this Akaashi would love to see.

The ending ceremony finished, the medals were given to all the players, but, once again, the first place trophy was not coming with them.

“Let’s get moving everyone, it’s time to go to the school bus.”, the coach informed.

While walking out of the court, the setter couldn’t help but steal some looks at the captain. For some reason, the captain was looking ridiculously fine and Akaashi couldn’t, even if his life counted on it, not think about that. They literally just lost the game, why can’t he ignore Bokuto’s attractiveness  for a second?

Even though he hates to admit it, the boy has been having a small crush (or maybe being deeply, embarrassingly and passionately in love) on the other since he saw him spiking two years ago.

At the beginning, Keiji was not sure which school he was going to spend his high school years at. Both Fukurodani and Suzumeoka seemed pretty good academically. However, one day, he was invited to take a look at the volleyball match that was happening in Fukurodani. And this made it clear which school should be chosen.

When he entered the court he saw a tall, white haired boy spiking a ball. This view made him feel things he had never felt before. Something on his stomach was swirling, almost like butterflies were flying inside his body. It was the first time he saw someone play like that, with that intensity. He felt hypnotized, unable to tear his eyes away from him even for just a second.

Looking at the view, it only came to his mind that he was watching a star. The spiker was a star, and one which shined a lot. This triggered something inside Akaashi. It made him want to be alongside the boy, play together, do whatever he could to make sure the guy would be able to shine the brightest at any given opportunity. It awakened his competitive spirit and interest in volleyball.

“So this is volleyball… I guess I understand now why people are so obsessed with it.

.

After heading up to the bus, Koutarou and Keiji sat side by side. However, the time through the drive was a complete silence, between not only the two, but all the players. The loss established a very unpleasant mood. But, after some hours, Bokuto couldn't stand the quietness anymore, so  he decided to start a conversation with his favorite setter.

“Ahh man, I really wish we had won this game!”

“Me too,  I’m sorry.” Akaashi answered, staring at the floor.

“Wait, no, no, no, no, no!! Don’t apologize! I wasn’t saying this in a way to make you feel guilty!  This wasn’t your fault, in any case, it was mine. Don’t feel sorry, you did an amazing job, you are by far the best setter I have ever played with!”

The younger boy felt his cheeks burn, and most likely turn red, from all this flattering. Therefore, he decided to face the window, also known as the opposite direction from where his captain was, in a way to not get caught by the older one's eyes. He guessed Bokuto was not the only one who enjoyed receiving compliments.

“Stop buttering me up. There are plenty of other setters more capable than me.”

“Well, but I’m pretty sure any of those have a list within all their ace’s weaknesses. Just take the compliment Agashi, you are my best match!”. Now it was time for the captain’s face to get all red.

‘AH damn it!! Why did I say that?!’

The younger one was getting a bit too flushed and wasn’t mentally prepared for having his crush saying he is his “best match”. What does this even mean? Was this Bokuto’s weird ass way of proposing? If so, Akaashi was ready to say yes. The boy knew he was going to have the whole night (and maybe several weeks or months) to spiral about the intention behind pronouncing all that. For this reason, he thought it was better to switch topics for now, before he could start taking a deep dive into those words and get redder than a tomato.

“Why do you wish we had won so much?”

‘Say that it was because of me. Say that I was the reason why  you wanted to win this game. Say that you wanted our last match together to end up as a win. Say that since we are a perfect duo, you wished we were unstoppable. Say that you are also terrified about your graduation and this being the very last time we play side by side. Say that this can’t be the end. Please, say that I am not the only one who feels this way.”

For only a brief moment, these thoughts crossed Akaashi’s mind. It made him feel really embarrassed and selfish, how could he think such things? Bokuto is a star, with tons of friends and deeds. How could he, just one of his teammates, who hasn’t even played with him from the very start, be the reason why he wanted to win the game? How stupid of him.

“Because… Well, there are many reasons! First, this is our last game together as a team and dude, how I love this team! Imagine, winning the first place trophy with you guys! Ah, that would have been so, so, soooo cool! Everyone worked so hard for this and did such a great job, you deserved it!”

“You also deserved it, Bokuto-san.”

“Oh… yeah, though a normal ace deserves it more than me. I still need some more preparation to be equivalent to them. But, I surely believe I did amazing overall! I’m not going to underestimate myself and be all down, I know I’m good, insanely good, actually! One of the bests, for sure!!

The comment made Akaashi let out a small chuckle.

“You are laughing! Thank goodness! I was starting to get worried!”

“Hum? What do you mean?”

“It's because since the end of the game, you have been with a serious look on your face. I mean, I know we lost the game and I'm also really sad, of course, but you weren't like, crying.  The others were all letting their emotions out, crying, screaming, sobbing, cursing, even all of these at once, while you were just standing there with a straight face. If you were fine that would have been okay, but I am pretty awesome at reading your emotions, you know.” Bokuto smirked and then continued with a more serious face. “I could clearly see that you weren’t fine and were keeping all that to yourself. That’s why I’m happy that I managed to cheer you up a little and make your emotionless mask fall for a moment.”

Akaashi felt, if anything, touched. It was one of the sweetest things someone has ever told him. Yes, it certainly wasn’t beautifully said, but rather it had a beautiful meaning. Bokuto noticed, he noticed every little detail about him, he noticed he wasn’t okay, and not only this,  Bokuto cared

“How could you be so sure that I wasn’t fine? I could simply not care about volleyball as much as you all do.” The younger boy still asked. He wanted to hear from the other’s mouth that this was impossible. That he knew him well enough to know this wasn’t the case. That, by noticing every little detail about his setter, he could see clearly that he, really, cared.

"Ah, yeah! Sure you don't, HAHAHAHA!" He laughed loudly, and this healed something inside Akaashi. How he missed hearing his laugh, it was probably one of his favorite sounds in the whole universe. Behind only  "Hey, hey  hey", this was the number one. This response was, somehow, better than getting a full explanation on how he pays attention to everything Keiji does.

“Listen Akaashi” Bokuto started, once he stopped laughing. “We lost the game, you don’t have to be okay. I'm your captain, feel free to count on me anytime you want to!! Although, technically, I am going to  leave the team soon… Well, it doesn’t matter! Since I was, obviously, the best captain you ever had, you will surely consider me one for a while” There was a little giggle by the end of the sentence.

“Of course I will, Bokuto-san.” Was Akaashi’s answer, but what he genuinely wanted to respond was more like ‘Of course. I will consider you my captain for a very long time, really, perhaps  even  forever.’

They stayed in silence for a while, but it was interrupted by Bokuto’s sudden yawn.

“Auah, I’m so tired, Jesus! This game really took away all my strength, I haven’t felt this exhausted in ages! I think I’mma take a quick nap. Do you mind if I rest my head on your shoulder?”

“Oh.. hum… no… No, I don’t mind at all. Go ahead.” Obviously, Keiji was pretty far away from not minding. His heart started beating insanely fast, to the point he was beginning to worry if Koutarou could hear it.

With every small movement Bokuto would make, his spiky hair would scratch the setter’s neck and this was driving Akaashi insane. It was so tingly that he was getting shivers all over his body. He was feeling everything burn, especially his face. As a result, once again, he decided that staring at the window would be the best way to go, to try to calm himself down. It was because of the amazing view outside, of course. It’s not like, if he kept looking at Bokuto, embarrassing noises would fall out of his lips.

Keiji somehow managed to relax and eventually fell asleep too, since the game was in fact very tiring. Even though it was pretty short, it was one of the best naps he ever had. He could stay like this forever, side by side with Bokuto. At the beginning it was kinda awkward but after he let his guard down he just hoped they would never reach their destination and have to leave the bus.

.

.

.

“Awwn, they look so cute together!” Konoha said with a smirk while taking a picture of both of them sleeping.

The random sound of his teammate's voice and the flash on his face made Akaashi wake up.

“What are you saying Konoha-san?” He said, rubbing his eyes and trying to stand up, noticing they were at school and people were already leaving the bus. However, Bokuto had different plans and was not that interested in moving from the position they were, pushing Akaashi back down.

“Agaashe.. don’t move.. let’s stay like this a bit more, okay?” said Koutarou, half asleep.

The setter's eyes widened and he couldn’t believe what he just heard. Bokuto was asking him to stay close to him, Jesus, what was happening today? But, of course, if his captain made such a request, who was he to deny it. Therefore, he slowly came back to the original position.

Konoha, on the other hand, by this time, was already over those lovebirds bullshit.

“Oh my God! Get a room!” He said, rolling his eyes.

Akaashi wasn't sure on how he should react to this. Was his feelings towards Bokuto this obvious? Did Bokuto notice them as well?

“I don’t know what you are implying Konoha-san, but whatever it is, is probably not what is happening now”

“Oh yes, it definitely isn’t, of course!”

Akaashi decided to ignore him and wake his spiker up.

“Bokuto-san, we are at school, you should wake up, the others already left the bus” The request made the older boy frown, however, he also knew it was time to leave, so he stood up and went away giving a hand for Akaashi to follow him.

When they got to the gym, people were talking and training a bit. Although they had lost the game, the mood wasn't as bad as it was on the bus. So, Bokuto thought it was a great moment to start his little, nonchalant, that definitely didn’t take four hours to get done, speech.

“Hey, hey everyone! Attention please, I would like to make a little speech” He  said proudly.

“Oh there we go.” Yamato spoke in a sarcastic way.

“HEY!” Bokuto screamed, with fake annoyance, then continued his discourse.

“I would just like to make some comments about how grateful I am to have spent these years with you guys! This is the GREATEST team in the whole world, I honestly even kinda believe the referee was cheering for the other team and purposely caused our loss. Anyways, I'm thankful for all the hard work you guys put into our team. I know how difficult it was, playing while also having to take care of your childish captain, especially you akaashi.”

At this part they locked eye contact with each other and a voice in Akaashi's head started yelling at him that teammates usually don't look at each other like that, that there was a bit too much love in the older one's eyes…

Keiji’s mind  needs to give him a break and stop being delusional.

“But thanks for doing all that, you guys were amazing  and I couldn't have asked for anything better. I really wished we had won, of course, but even so, I will leave this team with no regrets, well, maybe some, but I have always wished to say this  so you will have to listen. I might leave Fukorudani high, but Fukorudani high will never leave me!! I will miss every single one of you so much. But no worries, I will keep coming here to help you guys train with the best spiker in Japan and watching your games to see your improvement. I will be like  a proud dad, I can already imagine it. Well, this was my speech, I hope it was captivating enough to bring you to tears” He said it as a joke, but when he looked at his teammates, most of them were indeed crying.

“Wait guys?! What is going on, this wasn't supposed to happen, really! It was a happy speech, why are y’all crying?”

“Ah, I’m gonna miss you so much, you fucking idiot”

“You are… sniff.. not even the best spiker yet!!! Quit being delusional!”

“Hope you will become a better player so your next teammates won't have to suffer as much as we did!”

“I didn't even know you knew this many words, what the hell”

“This was a cringey ass speech.. sniff.. you better improve on that too!!”

“Are these compliments??! I honestly don't think you guys are gonna miss me at all” Bokuto responded, in a fake broken-hearted tone.

“Oh no, is this the last emo mode you will enter in this court? Awnn” They said as the players pushed Bokuto for a group hug.

“Of course we are gonna miss you ace”

“Guyyss” The captain's eyes were starting to get slightly watery as well.

Even with the now,  somehow, happy atmosphere, Akaashi still felt a deep hole down in his chest. The jokes were funny, everyone was laughing and the mood was indeed lightening, but he was feeling uneasy with a constant thought running through his mind that he just couldn´t ignore.

He felt like someone was taking a part of him and he hated the feeling, looking at them being happy made him feel sad, why can’t he make a good time out of this moment? It’s the last time they are together in this gym, but if it is the last time, shouldn't he make the best out of it? But he couldn’t, and on a way to not be a party pooper and bring the mood down he thought it was better to just tell the others he got to bounce and leave.

“Why so soon Akaashi?” someone asked, but he wasn't really paying attention

“My parents told me to get home early, my apologies” what a fat lie, his parents weren’t even at home, both of them travelling in Kyoto due to work.

“Awwn. what a pity, can’t you stay a little longer though?”

“Leave him alone, let him be a good son! Bye bye Akaashi-kun”

The second he left the gym, he started to get overwhelmed with his own emotions, it was like they were coming in waves and splashing right at his face. He couldn't really tell what the feeling really was. Was it anger, sadness, exhaustion, loneliness, anxiety, fear? All he could really tell was that the emotional wave really did hit him right at the face because before he could realize there were water drops all over his cheeks. The tears started to fall one after another and even though he was super embarrassed he just couldn't bring himself to  stop them.

Shit, this is so embarrassing, calm the fuck down!””  Akaashi thought to himself, he wasn’t expecting to have a breakdown in the middle of the street with strangers watching and giving him concerned looks. He tried hard to suppress his emotions but it only ended up leading him to let out a sob, so he decided to rush home and get there as soon as possible.

Thank god his house was close to school. He thought that after getting there he would manage to relax and breathe a little, but the effect was quite the opposite. Once he closed the door, the boy fell slowly to the ground and stopped trying to ignore his misery.

Akaashi wasn’t much of a loud crier (and definitely not an ugly one) so he just stayed there, sat on the ground, back against the door, weeping and overthinking about the game and awful scenarios that could (but never actually would) happen in his future unaccompanied by Bokuto's brightness.

He didn’t want Bokuto to leave, he wished they could stay together forever. How was school going to be? What was the fun in playing volleyball without him? What if he lied and will never come back to visit them? What if he lied and he actually blames Akaashi for their loss? What if he is mad at him and is glad they will never play together again?

A sudden ringtone interrupted Keiji 's overanalysis. He looked at his phone and his eyes widened. No one other than Bokuto was calling him, out of nowhere. The despair was quickly substituted by the feeling of panic but he decided, after trying to ease his heartbeat and breathe a little, to accept the call.

“Helloo? Akaashi? Can you hear me?” Bokuto questioned on the other side of the line, sounding a little loud, as usual.

“Y.. yes , Bokuto-san. Is everything alright?" He was speaking really low trying to sound as calm as possible so the older one wouldn't realize anything.

“Yeah, I’m cool. I was just… hum… a bit worried about you.”

Akaashi’s heart started beating faster. Mostly because of the worry of being caught but also due to a different and deeper reasoning, one he needed to bring himself to not think about.

“Oh. You don’t need to worry, Bokuto-san. I’m fine.”

“Cut the crap, Akaashi. I know you are not okay, alright? I know. You can trust me. Please, talk to me.” His tone got very serious, almost unrecognizable in comparison to how silly he usually is. However the last part sounded even more different, nearly a whisper, like he didn't plan on  saying them out loud but they  just couldn't stay in his chest anymore.

Talk to me’ , there was almost nothing Akaashi wanted more than this. To tell him all his darkest fears, to talk about his biggest wishes and, mostly, to confess his deepest feelings. The problem was that what he wanted the most was to say all of this and be comforted, be accepted, be loved, after. And he knew this wasn't going to happen so he would rather keep all to himself than lose everything he has (even if, by doing this, he still ends up losing everything).

“There is nothing to talk about Bokuto-san. Why don’t  you go get some rest. I swear I’m fine.”

“Well, I don’t believe you.”

“Why do you have to make this so difficult?” Akaashi’s voice cracked, the pressure in his chest was getting harder to bear, the truth begging to spill out of his throat.

“Because I care about you, a lot, actually. I want you to know that you don’t have to deal with anything by yourself, I am here by your side. Always.”

This was Akaashi’s last straw. His mind and body couldn’t pretend anymore, couldn't lie anymore. They wanted too badly to cling to the comfort that the person they cared the most was offering to them. The tears he was trying so hard to hold back started running down his cheeks and sobs were threatening to leave his mouth by any second. His body was indeed betraying him, all his efforts on being rational to avoid further disappointment and sorrow were being thrown away  because of a simple feeling buried deep down in his heart: hope.

“Fuck… why do you have to be so stubborn? I said I’m fi-fine..” If it wasn't already, now it was more than obvious that Akaashi was nowhere near being fine, and the trembling in his voice was making it even clearer.

“Are you crying?! Oh my god! Akaashi, don’t worry, okay? I’m coming over.”

“NO! Bokuto-san, please do-” But it was already too late, the captain had already ended the call.

What was Akaashi going to do? What excuse would he come up with? And would he even manage to fool Bokuto at all? Of course he wouldn’t. He knew there was no way out of this. ‘I’m so fucked’.

While Akaashi stared at the ceiling and thought about how his life was about to be destroyed by any minute, the doorbell rang. He could just ignore it, pretend he didn’t hear, run away to his room, lock the door and never get out of there ever again…

“Akaashiii! I know you are here, open the door, please!”

With a long sigh, knowing he would have to face this sooner or later, the younger opened the door. As he did, he was greeted with big strong arms pushing him straight to a hug.

“Oh Akaashi, thank god you opened the door! I was so worried about you! Are you alright? Please tell me what is bothering you!” The hug was so tight and comforting… the setter really wouldn't  mind staying hours like this.

“Bokuto-san, you really didn’t have to come all the way here, it’s nothing, really…”

“Look at me.” And so the younger did, his red, scared, teary eyes met the older’s yellowish, full of confidence, sparkly ones.  How would he manage to say goodbye to those eyes?

“Tell me what is going on. As your captain, it is my duty to know how my teammates are doing, and if they are not okay, I will be there for them. Our partnership doesn’t end the moment we leave the court, Akaashi.”

“Oh, yeah… I’m sorry, Bokuto-san.” Right, volleyball. This is what the spiker was talking about and this is where Akaashi’s concerns should have been, losing the game, not losing the chance of getting a lovely, funny boyfriend. Their bond was strictly due to their matching abilities, nothing else…

“Jeez, you don’ t need to apologize all the time, Akaashi. And also, as your friend, I worry about you.”  Bokuto grabbed the younger’s left hand and squeezed it. “I genuinely care about you, god damn it, Akaashi! Just tell me what’s up, please! Whatever it is, I will help you out. Are you upset because of the game? Or is it more personal, like a heartbreak, maybe a bad grade? Wait! You don’t have to tell me if you really don’t want to but it’s just that getting it out of your chest might help you feel better.” Blabbering was one of Bokuto’s specialities, just like Akaashi normally would overthink, the older would overtalk.

“It is because of the game. But… that’s not the only reason” The setter finally let that out, feeling at the same time the contrasting sensation of relief mixed with anxiety.

“I’m scared of how the future is going to be… without you.”

“What? Oh, relax Akaashi, the team will be just fine without me, there are tons of great spikers in the second year that can take my place as the ace!”

“I’m not talking about volleyball, Bokuto-san.”

There was a flash of expectations crossing the captain's eyes, but it quickly disappeared and got replaced by confusion.

“So... you are talking about school in general? I’m sure you will make tons of friends, Akaashi! You are a very easy to like type of person.”

“Oh my god, you really are not understanding… Bokuto-san, I… I like you. Romantically. Like, I’ve got a big fat crush on you and am attracted to your looks, personality and everything about you.”

Bokuto’s expression was pure shock and Akaashi’s body freezed. There it was, he crossed the forbidden line and now there was no going back, the person he liked for years was probably disgusted at him and he couldn’t undo it.

“Are you serious? No… it can be… Are you actually saying you like me too?”

“Like you too? What?”

“Wait! No! I mean, yes! Of course I like you Akaashi, come on, look at you, how would I not be into you? But, ugh! This wasn’t how things were supposed to go, I’ve been planning for soooo long the day I would confess, I would have bought flowers and chocolate and taken you to the…”

Akaashi wasn’t listening anymore to what the other was saying, tons of  ‘he likes me back’ and ‘what the fuck’ repeating in his mind to the point nothing else could be heard. His legs got weak and he had to lean on the wall while slowly falling to the floor, all the adrenaline built for getting the confession out of him was fading away. He was so prepared for a humiliating rejection he didn’t even know how to react to such scenario.

“Akaashi? Hey? Oh my god, are you alright?” He sat down and held the younger’s shoulder in a way to stabilize him.

“Yeah…I’m just confused. Did you really just say you like me?”

The worry on the older’s expression softened and he just seemed affectionate “I did, Akaashi. And I’ve been liking you for quite a while actually.”

“Oh my god, this is really happening, I can’t believe it…”

“What is so hard to understand? You are a thoughtful, caring, smart, funny, insanely pretty person, every single  part of you is just so attractive. It is the most obvious thing for me to be into you.”

Akaashi’s face got all red when he heard those compliments. His crush for ages, the guy he admires and is attracted to thinks he is smart, funny and insanely pretty. Oh.. this was too much to handle all at once. Still, not wanting to seem so affected by the comment, the younger decided to tease his captain a little.

“Wow, today you really are gathering all your knowledge and making up some fancy sentences, good job, Bokuto-san.”

“Hahahaha! Come on! Not you too!! I am graduating high school, after all!! Of course I know, like, humm, some  very big amount of words! But , hey, so… just let me get things straight, you were sad because you like me so much?”

“Ugh, you really want me to confess again? Okay… The truth is that I’m sad because I don't want to lose you. I like you, very, very much, Bokuto-san and although you can be annoying sometimes, way too sensitive and way too loud, I can’t imagine my life without you. I don’t want to think about how next year will go without seeing you at least five days a week, how volleyball will be without you. I’ ll just miss you so much…”

“Hey, slow down on the pessimism, Akaashi! I am not going anywhere, I wasn’t planning on leaving and especially now that I know how you feel, of course we will continue seeing each other… Look, since you are being so honest with me right now, I also have something to tell you. When you asked me earlier why I wanted to win so badly I didn’t tell you the whole truth.” He grabbed Akaashi’s hand and intertwined their fingers.

“Most of the reason why I'm so upset that we lost is because if I can't win playing with you, with what setter will I? I know that, of course, talent wise we are a great duo, your sets match my spikes and all, but, mostly, your presence on the court motivates me, Akashi. I want you to be proud of me when my fancy  parallels hit the floor because even the libero couldn’t catch it, to be impressed by my strength, to look at me and think ‘wow, he is actually insane’.”

“ You are acting as if I don't already think you are the best at everything you do.”

“Wow, did you really say what I just heard or am I dreaming? Ugh.. Focus man… What I'm trying to say is that I'm also scared of losing you. How and why will I play volleyball without you?”

“Oh my god, what are you even saying? Are you really trying to tell me that the Bokuto Koutarou is insecure?” Said Akaashi in disbelief but also laughing a little.“See? Without even trying you are already cheering me up”

“Bold of you to assume I ain't always trying my hardest on everything that is related to you”

As he said this, Bokuto placed his hand on Akaashi’s chin and pushed him closer until their lips were only inches apart.“Like right now, do you think I’m not scared as hell to fuck this up?”

“I trust you not to, Bokuto-san” And so, their lips finally connected. Years of longing, years of fears of possible rejections, years of quiet expectations, in that moment, came to an end.

And it was absolutely perfect, better than imagination could ever create. Everything just felt so right, the desire from both was so obvious it even made them  feel a little stupid to not have done this way before.

The kiss was passionate, loving, soft, deep, all at the same time. It was screaming ‘I can’t hold back anymore, I’ve been wanting to do this for way too long’ but also ‘I can’t rush this because it needs to last forever’

Akaashi’s hands were on the older’s hair and Bokuto was pushing the setter’s waist, both trying to get as close as possible to the other, because, for once, they could. There was no more pretending not want to hug a little longer when the other scored in the game, no need to act like there was no actual meaning behind a random brush of knees, because it did mean something.

At one point Bokuto started caressing Akaashi’s back, sending shivers down his spine that made the younger let out a soft whimper, which the older used as a way to slide his tongue on the other's  mouth. What was already taking akaashi to heaven, somehow, got even better, he felt his whole body go weak when their tongues met one another. Even though he had never kissed so hungrily before, it was just natural for him to give himself to Bokuto.

Akaashi’s mind, for once, was a quiet place, with no negative thoughts, awful future scenarios or insecurities. He was just letting himself fall into that addictive feeling of Bokuto’s lips sucking his tongue and thinking about how nothing else would ever manage to beat this moment.

The seconds felt like hours and they wanted to never stop, but unfortunately, breathing is an important thing for human beings. Therefore, the magical moment had to come to an end before one of them passed out from lack of air.

“Wow.... this was… I don’t even..” Bokuto started, trying to figure out what to say but nothing felt comparable to how absolutely perfect that was.

“Did I just make Bokuto Koutarou out of words?” Akaashi teased but suddenly his face and body tensed up. “Oh..Wait.. Did.. you not like it? I’m sorry, I thought you wanted it too, I should have aske-”

He was interrupted by the older’s lips on his once again, making him realize he was already missing it.  Although just as lovely, this kiss was much shorter than the other, leaving Akaashi with the feeling of waiting more and more.

“Don’t you dare apologize for giving me the best fucking kiss of my life, Akaashi.” Even though his tone was severe, his flushed cheeks and loving eyes were slightly betraying the angry persona.

The younger giggled a little, relief finally emerging on his appearance. “So I did make you out of words then, Bokuto-san?”

“Hell yeah you did, this was insane, I don’t even know how I could ever describe how good it was, I guess I wasted all of my fancy vocabulary earlier hahahaha!

“Well, I think you do have a talent at saying the right thing at the right time, Bokuto-san. You really manage to brighten my mood right now, I’m more hopeful about the future.”

“As you should, Agaashe! I promise you we will make this work, I will stay in the town so I could come visit you after school or at weekends, and we could even travel together during vacations, there are tons of options! Nothing is over, our future is just starting, Akaashi!”

“You are always comforting me, thank you, Bokuto-san.”

“Ugh, and the way you call me ‘Bokuto-san’ is just so damn attractive, it makes me want to kiss your pretty face every time you say this. I’m so doomed!”

Akaashi laughed at the comment, getting butterflies by the fact that something he does so normally attracts Bokuto that much.

“I guess I’m also doomed then, because I really wouldn't mind if you did that every time, Bokuto-san. ” And the older did exactly as he said, showering Akaashi with gentle kisses on the said pretty face.

“So we can say we are both doomed, then? Well, at least we are doomed together!”

What a sappy thing to say. There was a part of Akaashi’s brain screaming at how cringe this sentence was. However, for at least once, he didn’t want to hear his rational side anymore and just desired to enjoy life freely, emotionally and with his silly personal star.

“Yeah, we are doomed together, Bokuto-san.”
