Work Text:
A primordial screech of pure rage echoed through the halls.
"wow. i almost feel bad. wait nvm– no i don’t. you deserve this.”
Chara's glare snapped to Sans, seemingly attempting to smite him with their eyes to no avail. They slammed their fist into the wall, actually cracking it a little.
"Fuck. You."
"that's not very family friendly of you." Sans raised a nonexistent eyebrow, unperturbed.
The child dove at him with a growl, trying to strangle him – not even bothering with the knife – but Sans just sidestepped every lunge with that same smile on his skull.
“you really haven’t gotten any better at this, have you?”
“How would you know?” Chara glared at him, huffing as they scrambled to their feet.
Sans chuckled at this as though the answer was obvious. And it kind of was. The frustration that Chara seemed to exude with every breath made it clear that they had been at this for a while without much progress.
“i’m lazy. not stupid.”
A knife was thrown but easily dodged. It embedded in the wall right behind Sans’ head for a second before reappearing in the human’s hand.
“what? you think i’m just gonna stand there and take it?” Sans threw a few bones out, alternating blue and white.
“Yeah! That’s the whole fucking idea you slippery bastard!” Chara did their best to avoid the bones before slicing out again with their knife, “Why won’t you just stay–”
“i mean, if you want to die again, fine by me.” Bones shot towards them in rapid succession, some landing a hit, others being hastily evaded. The hallway around the two, though relatively durable, was slowly being destroyed the longer they fought.
Chara ducked behind a pillar to catch their breath. Sans waited with a grin.
“tuckered out already? but i’m just getting started!”
At this point, they had started to recognize some of the bones. As they peeked around the corner to through their knife, a rib flew past their face, cutting their cheek. A femur smashed through the pillar, just narrowly missing their head.
“maybe it’s past your bedtime.” Sans chuckled, extremely condecendingly, knowing exactly how mad he was making them. Aka, 10 on the anger scale, extremely friggen mad.
They wiped their sweaty palms on their pants, sweat mixing with the monster dust that seemed to cling to their entire body, forming a gritty texture. Maybe they should have washed their hands at the last sink they saw but they didn’t care enough for that. Throwing their knife again, they ran behind pillar after pillar as each was exploded in their wake, sprinting so fast that they didn’t realized they had darted straight through a blue bone until the health points drained.
Only one hp left. Chara tried to catch their breath but couldn’t, adreniline zooming through their veins. Red eyes met void black eyeholes and they smirked. Just had to be careful. Yeah, they could do this. Determination and all that.
They were immediately killed by a bone to the heart.
“Ah, fu–”
{Don’t give up, Chara! Stay determined!}
‘Oh shut up,’ they thought angrily at the voice. ‘As if I would. I’ve put in way too much effort to kill this guy.’
Opening their eyes, Chara was again greeted by the golden hallway. This was it. They could feel it. 30th time’s the charm or however the saying goes. No matter how he seemed to dodge every single one of their attacks before. They’d totally be able to get through it this time. Taking a deep breath, they took a step towards the shadowed figure.
Only to promptly trip over the Box and eat shit on the floor.
Wait.
The box.
Sans could practically see the gears turning in their head.
“Oh. My. FUCKING. GOD.”
They ripped open their bag to check their items and instantly facepalmed.
“I HAD FOOD THIS WHOLE TIME?!”
Sans snorted.
“f#ckin d#mba$$.”
