Work Text:
Pomni wanted to scream.
She wanted to pull his limbs apart one by one and make a joke out of his near-indestructible, lanky body and tear his heart out only to stab it a million more times.
Crouching on her bed, she wrangled her pillow with all the frenzied energy building up inside, pretending it was the one person spotlighting the forefront of her thoughts.
She just couldn’t understand why Jax would do that. Why push everyone—push her away? So that he could what, save face? Forget what it means to care for another person at all? To share what it meant to feel human again, to feel the warmth of someone’s company, to feel the sorrow from losing a game, the righteous anger of being pranked on, the grief for……
Pomni looked down, feeling the tears fall first before she could see them stain the fabric of her comforter.
She remembered how Jax couldn’t bear to look her in the eyes afterwards. She wasn’t naive. She felt more pain than he might’ve wanted to let on, kept hidden in his eyes as he spouted all the lies he could say to keep her away.
She hasn’t been in this place for long, but the quiet moments she caught him wandering around and just staring into space…. especially when staying too long by their rooms…… it was enough.
Pomni breathed in and out shakily, wiping the remnants of heightened emotion off her face for her friend. Because that’s what Jax is, her friend, his friend, no matter how much he would try to deny it. And Pomni’s gonna make damn sure he won’t run away from any of them again.
