Revealed in the worst way

Summary:

Rumi doesn't block the demons club in time and gets hurt, but her girls are there to help her out.

Work Text:

The wind whipped her braid everywhere as she slashed at another demon, glaring as the tear healed itself. It wasn’t the first time they had to fight demons on a train, so they were making quick time despite the speed. Rumi's mind was still reeling from the small disagreement over the lyrics for the Idol Awards, and she could feel her patterns pulsing with her own heart, tightening their grip on her.

“Seriously, what is wrong with you? Mira's voice snapped her from her thoughts, loud enough to be heard over the wind as her weapon sliced a demon in front of her. Rumi didn’t have to turn to feel Mira’s glare on her back as she twisted and stabbed a demon climbing over the side.

“I told you, the Song it’s-“ Rumi turned, trusting her feet to keep her steady as she met the eyes of Mira and Zoey. Zoey's eyes were wide as she glanced from girl to girl, not liking the fighting but unsure how to break up the fight this time. Rumi turned back around to slash at another demon, hearing Mira step closer.

“I’m not talking about the song, I’m talking about you?!” Mira exploded, glaring harshly at the leader, ignoring the way her eyes flashed with fear then hurt. Slamming her weapon into the roof of the train, Mira steps closer again, eyes boring into Rumi's back. “Why are you questioning EVERYTHING we stand for when we are so close to sealing the Honmoon! What are you not telling us?!” Mira asked, almost pleading as Rumi turned to face her.

The train left the tunnel, blasting the girls into the sun, the warmth barely settling in over the harsh wind of the train as Rumi stumbled over her words. ‘They can’t know, we are so close, they can’t see… they can’t know!’ Rumi's mind was racing, avoiding the curious and expectant eyes of the two girls in front of her. She could feel heat rising up her neck from the attention and couldn’t stop the words from tumbling out.

“Not everything is about your insecurities Mira!” Rumi blurted out, immediately regretting her words as she turned and saw the flash of hurt in Mira’s face. Reaching out to apologize she was stopped by Zoey's voice.

“Would you two stop fighting each other and LOOK!” Zoey said loudly, pointing at something behind them. Rumi turned and her eyes widened. A tear, bigger than they had ever been. Hundreds and thousands of demons poured out of the tear onto the roof of the train as it barreled closer.

“If you're with us then prove it.” Mira's voice was stone cold, sparring a quick glance to Rumi as she stepped up. Rumi bit her lip and nodded, feeling Zoey's excitement as she stepped closer as well. With a simple line they burst into action, slicing and dodging attacks as they sang the lyrics to their song. Zoey and Mira moved like water, protecting each other's back easily as they fought, but their words cut deeper and deeper into Rumi as she ran forward to deal with the wave head on.

She felt the words catch in her throat as she tried to choke them out. Looking up she saw an ogre of a demon come at her, baton raised in a swing and her eyes widened. Before she had any time to react the baton swung and hit her side with such force that she was knocked sideways with a yelp, and over the edge of the train falling to the ground below her vision going dark. The last thing she heard were her girls screaming her name in pure panic and fear.

Zoey and Mira quickly cut down the last of the demons, their rage at seeing they leader hurt had given them the strength. As soon as the last demon exploded in pink dust they jumped off the train, rolling onto the ground to not break anything and started bolting up the track, looking for their girl. In the distance they could see her, unmoving, from where she had fallen.

Zoey had reached her first, falling to her knees and immediately checking on their leader. Her clothes were torn from the rough landing, and though she was breathing, her breaths were short and unsteady. An arm was trapped under her sitting at an unnatural angle which made them both wince. At the sight of Rumi still breathing made both of them relax, and Zoey gently rolled her to her back, whispering softly when Rumi whimpered in pain.

“I know it’s okay..” Zoey whispered softly, unsure what else to do.. “should we call Bobby? O-or just bring her home?”

“We gotta get her home.. we can figure out what to do from there..” Mira said simply broaching down to gently pick Rumi up in a bridal hold, her breath catching at any sounds of pain from the leader. Zoey was quick to comfort her, whispering small reassurances as Mira stood and turned heading towards the tower, with Zoey at her side.

As they got to the tower, it was nearing Dusk. Without stopping they got up to the pent house and gently laid the leader down on the couch. Mira stepped away to get the med kit and ice packs, while Zoey quietly started taking off the sweatshirt, pausing when something purple caught her eye. Patterns. Zoey's breath caught in her throat, her eyes darting between the patterns and Rumi’s face, her mind racing.

How did Rumi have patterns? Did she have them the entire time? Did she sell her soul? Was she here to spy on them for gwi-ma? Was this entire thing a lie? Zoey was so far in her thoughts she didn’t hear Mira come back, not until she heard the first aid kit clatter to the ground, startling Zoey out of her thoughts. Rough hands grabbed her shoulder and pulled her away from Rumi as Mira pulled out her weapon and pointed it to the still unconscious Rumi on the couch.

“Wha- Mira don’t!” Zoey said, pushing the weapon away with a frown.

“What do you mean don’t?! It's a demon! We need to kill it!” Mira stated her eyes wide and voice shaky.

“She’s not Mira! This is Rumi! Sweet, gentle Rumi who wouldn’t hurt us at all. Dorky and funny, sweet and humble Rumi.” Zoey said quickly, stepping in front of the dancer's hands raised as she tried to calm down Mira. Her own head reeling at the reveal, all the dots finally connecting in her head.

Mira paused for a moment, looking over Zoey's shoulder at Rumi on the couch, face pinched in pain but blissfully unaware of the standoff between her girls. Mira dismissed her weapon and nodded. Hearing Zoey take a stuttering breath as she looked away.

Feeling gentle arms wrap around her middle, Mira relaxed with a huff of breath.

“We will get our answers after she wakes up, but we need to treat her. Okay?” Zoey mumbled into her back, and Mira nodded once before feeling the small body of the Rapper pull away and turned to see Zoey grab the medkit from the ground and pull out gauze and something to brace the arm while it heals. Mira grabbed some ointment and started smearing it onto the small cuts littering her arms and face, while Zoey wrapped her arm.

Once that was done, she pressed a cold ice pack against the leader's ribs, knowing it might help a little before slumping into the couch next to Rumi. She smiled faintly as Mira slumped next to her and pulled her into her side, pressing a soft kiss to Zoey's forehead. They stayed like that, ready to wait out however long their leader will be down for, and ask for clarification when she wakes up. Zoey knew Mira felt hurt that Rumi hid such a big thing from them, but Zoey kinda understood why. They were trained to kill anything with patterns, Rumi must’ve thought that included her so she stayed hidden. Zoey was gonna make sure that Rumi knew that they would never hurt her, and that she was safe.
