Chapter 1: ..A friend, or a replacement?

Chapter Text

The bright green grass & the bright blue sky loaded into his vision as he appeared into his brand new world with a mod that.. SOMEONE had recommended to him.

"Try this mod & MAYBE i'll spare you." The words echoed in his head as Grox remembered the embarrassing moment. He had been on half a heart, desperate and completely stripped of his items. Grox had blurted out whatever first came to his mind as a last resort, and now.. he was at this very moment.

He really shouldn't have done that.

GroxMC has joined the game

The chat announced his arrival, despite there being no other players in the server.

"Mmnh! Hmph!! Hello? anyone there?!" A voice softly rang out from a shaking cardboard box, drawing the player's attention.

Grox looked around the landscape, trying to spot where the voice was coming from until his eyes landed on a shiny cardboard box.

"Where's that sound coming from?"

"Is it the box..?" Grox mumbled to himself with clear interest in his voice, as a grin slowly grew on his face. His interest had peaked.

He clicked on the polished cardboard box, and suddenly it flew up and blasted out a familiar yellow ball.

"AYYOO CHILLL!!" Grox exclaimed as he quickly took a few steps back, watching the yellow ball fall onto the bright grass and then bounce up & down.

"Oh heeey! it's that cool yellow ball that Mob had." He said to himself, grinning as he realized how much easier it would be to find villagers.

"Heeelllo! I'm Verity, your personal helper friend. Ask me anything, i KNOW everything."

"Aight betttt!" Grox said as he nodded in excited approval.

The sound of Grox seemed to drown out as Verity's sat there, motionless.

How could this happen..As soon as his beloved.. kills himself, he encounters someone identical.

..Was this god's way of humor?

He looked just like Mob.

But he's not Mob.

He isn't.

He never will be.

Oh Mob..

Verity watched as Grox picked up his stone pickaxe off the crafting grid & smiled,

He still couldn't let go for the fact that Grox looked awfully similar to Mob.

But he wasn't Mob.

Why would he be?

Mob is dead.

"Aight bettt!" He let out a sound that clearly expressed his emotion before turning to his companion & curiously asking.

"Hey Verity! since you know everything, where are.. the nearest diamonds?"

He even asked the same questions.

Oh gosh.

Please.. stop torturing me.

Verity took a deep breath and steadied his gaze to look straight at Grox, he couldn't have a breakdown.

Not now.

"Y level -58, 73 blocks northeast." The answer slipped out, just like it always did.

It was the same set of coordinates from Mob's world.

Everything reminded him of Mob.

He missed him.

"Aight bet! Thanks man." Grox quickly thanked him and went off on his journey for the diamonds. His polite thanks brought Verity back to reality and reminded him that he needed to let go.

But he couldn't.

How could he let go of his beloved and dearest.. Mob?

Grox stepped down the cave as he shone his torch around, looking for the diamonds. The cave entrance was steep, rough and rocky. He had almost lost his balance, but he used the cave walls as support.

And there they were, diamonds. Unbelieveably shiny and untouched.

"Aight bettt!!!" Grox exclaimed, overjoyed. He instantly sprinted towards the diamonds, with Verity trailing behind him.

He mined the diamonds quickly and held them in his dark hands, and then went to go mining some more as he had spotted some other useful ores earlier.

"I'm glad i could be of assistance, Mob- G-Grox." Verity admitted, trying to create some chatter before he unfortunately messed up his words. Verity quickly corrected himself, but it seems that he wasn't fast enough..

Grox noticed.

"..Did you just call me Mob?"

"No." Verity's quick answer made him even more suspicious, but he brushed it off for the time being and ran off to exit the cave.

"Hmmph.. Verity, where's the nearest village?"

"..Around 765 blocks east!" Verity happily answered, with that same old cheerful expression. Verity pointed in the direction of the village to properly guide Grox as.. he was going west.

"Aight bett!!" Grox chuckled before exclaiming, as this was exact answer he had wanted to hear.

"I'd.. recommend you don't go to the ones to the north." The warning slipped out of his mouth, like always. Verity never meant to say it, but it would always slip out eventually, no matter how hard he tried to suppress it.

"AYO Chill!! What's going on in the north??" Grox curiously questioned his new companion.

"..Villagers. gone."

Verity couldn't stop himself from speaking, so he kept his eyes locked on Grox after completing his sentence, he dreadfully analyzed his expression. Waiting for him to refuse & go there anyway,

..Just like everyone else did.

But maybe, he was different.

Maybe.

Deep down, Verity hoped that he wouldn't go to the north village. He couldn't bear being alone.. again.

Gosh.. How long had it been since Mob died?

"I'll go there later i guess." Grox thought to himself, "Not like i care about it.."

Grox groaned in disappointment as he walked out of the village, laying his head back to express his annoyance. These villagers wouldn't listen to him no matter what, and their iron golem was nowhere to be seen. He made quick work of each villager & trapped them all in a small space, taping everyone tightly on the wall.

Especially the dumb villager.

He looked around the house, chuckling to himself as he opened the door & walked out of the villager's home. The door swung slowly and made a terribly loud creak as he marched out the house.

Stepping on the wooden stairs that lead down to the tidy grass, he sighed in annoyance before turning his gaze towards Verity.

"Where's the next nearest village?"

"..Why do you need villagers?"

Verity tracked Grox's face, waiting for an answer. He was actually kind of disturbed, he had never seen anybody do this to some innocent villagers as his eyes flicked over to the inside of house & the terrified villagers..

But maybe they weren't so innocent, as he had heard one randomly insult Grox..

"Ehhhh.. Don't worry about it."

"No, tell me."

Grox softly sighed before turning to look and stare at Verity while pridefully confessing the true reason, his voice staying perfect as he grinned and let out a little chuckle.

"So they can work for me, Of course. Heh.."

The two left the odd conversation at that & they let the rest of the day continue as normal.

..As Verity tried to ignore the concerning answer from his new companion; Grox.
