Work Text:

Mugm, how does one even start to describe the voidling? He was brash, pushy, bold and so much more. You could go to everybody on the server and they would all have new ways to describe the guy, but if there was one thing Mugm was known for above all else is the fact that he’s good, annoyingly so. The voidling was the best teammate Wyll could ever ask for, good at pvp, charismatic whenever it wanted and one of the strongest people Wyll knew of— both physically and mentally.

He was like a star, no matter how close Wyll got Mugm was always out of his reach. Sometimes it felt like Wyll was destined to watch the voidling from afar, having to orbit him without ever having the chance to get close. It was somewhat nostalgic to be able to stand beside Mugm once again, however this time as an equal where jealousy doesn’t consume his entire being.

Still no matter how close they may stand, he still had a long way ahead of him until he could truly get a grip on his teammate.

Speaking of Mugm being so close, but never fully within Wyll’s grasp— Lately the guy was always around him, unnervingly so. If you ever were to ask Wyll he would confidently say he knew Mugm and all of its weird antics. He had teamed with it on multiple occasions spanning across different servers, so whatever Mugm was up to really shouldn’t have come as such a big shock, however the voidling had always had a knack for surprising him in different ways.

Wyll’s main issue for the time being was that for the past couple of weeks before lifesteal world started Mugm had been appearing everywhere he went which had only increased since they returned to bliss, normally that wouldn’t be too unusual since they’re teammates, though the fact that it had begun joining him every time Wyll went out to grind materials or how it arrived so quickly was incredibly weird, even for Mugm’s standards.

It would always come a couple of seconds to a couple of minutes after Wyll called. Sometimes he didn’t even have a chance to give Mugm his coords before the voidling had already arrived at the scene.

He couldn’t even sleep in peace, every now and then he would wake up from restless sleep with Mugm sitting on top of his chest, staring down at him and mumbling something about not letting a mare get close before telling Wyll to go back to sleep. It was beyond strange, but when have Mugm ever been normal, besides he really didn’t have the energy to argue with it in the middle of the night.

It’s not like anything happened either way. Mugm was kinda just there, standing on the sidelines and watching him or well, that's how it all had started.

Though that’s not the full truth either, it truly started about a week or so before Lifesteal world. He had told Mugm that he was planning to team up with Jojo, Aimsey and Fruit for the event and that he wanted the voidling broaden its horizon and be around other people. He’s well aware of Mugm’s tendency to avoid anyone new, so he wished this could be a new change in its life. Now he didn’t expect Voidling to get all buddy-buddy with everyone, but he thinks it would be a good change if Mugm had some more people to talk to outside of Bliss.

Clearly something had gone wrong in Mugm’s head during their first talk which wasn’t too surprising since Mugm was known for being anti-social, so when Mugm kept following him and showing up wherever he went he didn't think too much about it. The voidling had never been good at voicing his wants and needs if it didn’t correlate to a fight or their shared goal, so Wyll had let the voidling do as it wished.

Perhaps Mugm sought him out for comfort, to reassure itself that Wyll would be right here when they got back or maybe even him clinging onto the person he knew the best before it would be surrounded by strangers and acquaintances. It was something he clearly needed and who was Wyll to say no to him. It was actually quite nice to be so domestic with each other if he could call it that, don’t tell Mugm he said that tough or he’d never hear the end of it.

The first time he truly noticed that something was off was during Lifesteal World. It had started small enough for Wyll not to think too hard about it, like Mugm calling him every now and then or when he would message Wyll after either of them got out of a fight.

Just a normal allyship between them like always, there was no reason for Wyll to suspect anything else.

At least not until the calls got longer and more frequent, that in itself wasn't the problem though— the problem was that mugm began talking as if it knew exactly what was going on with Wyll at all times. Somehow it even knew about Peapuff and her wellbeing even though they’ve never met, it knew of Wyll’s plans for the two weeks and even talked like it knew where Wyll was at any given time.

He was asking to come over on multiple occasions, talking about how quick and easy it would be for it to travel to Wyll’s base even with the fact that Wyll had never given the voidling his base coords or how he kept mentioning things that had happened to Wyll and his team— once again just knowing it without ever been told about it.

That’s the part that unnerved him the most, though he was naive to think it would stop after they got back to Bliss.

The first day they arrived back they had just spent at their base doing nothing, because Mugm had decided to cling onto Wyll for the day— don’t ask him how the voidling was able to do so with little to no physical contact. Once again he didn’t think too much of it or more like he didn’t want to think of it at all and did anything to distract himself from Mugm’s unusual behavior.

Because of Mugm’s clinginess Wyll took the opportunity to spend the rest of the day teasing the guy. Mugm didn’t seem to mind it too much so it was all harmless fun, what he didn’t think would happen was Mugm taking this as an agreement for the voidling to continue with whatever he had going on.

So for the past weeks Wyll had been stuck in this endless loop of Mugm following him— stalking sounded a bit too extreme, it’s not like he can’t see it or that it is hiding from him, quite the opposite actually— staring an unhealthy amount at him, mumbling things that Wyll could never quite grasp and trying to pull him away from other people.

Because that was now something he had to be mindful of. Wyll had no idea what was going through the voidlings head, but at this point it was beginning to impact everyone else around them. He couldn’t talk to Pro or Pinity without Mugm dragging him away for some ‘important reason’ that never actually existed and he definitely couldn’t talk about the others who they weren’t teamed with without earning a mean glare and angry muttering.

So there was only one thing Wyll could do at that point— confront Mugm, which was going to be a lot easier than it originally should be. All he needs to do is just lie in his bed and wait for when Mugm comes around for his nightly visits.

It was honestly laughably how easy it was to actually do it, Mugm didn’t even seem surprised when Wyll opened his eyes and grabbed onto it, holding it against him. If anything the guy seemed amused, like they were playing some weird game only Mugm knew the rules for.

”You finally going to tell me what’s up with you?”

Talking with Mugm had always been easy no matter how serious or personal the conversation was, even now with it sitting on top of his chest peering at him. The discomfort he had felt earlier had completely disappeared leaving only a calm and relaxing feeling washing over him.

“You’ve been acting weirder than usual.” It was interesting how quickly his body relaxed under Mugm’s weight, hand subconsciously massaging against its hips and upper thighs. His body long since grown accustomed to the voidlings' nightly visits, associating its familiar presence and pressure with safety as soon as it settled on top of him.

”You like it” It sounded so smug Wyll just had to roll his eyes at the comment. He could see the grin on the voidlings face and he wished nothing more than to wipe it away.

“Right, right. I totally like this, you’re so right. How could I ever have forgotten." He really couldn’t help but let the sarcasm drip from his voice.

”Since you’re so against it then I guess this is goodnight”

With that Mugm leaned closer from where he sat and planted a quick teasing kiss on Wyll’s cheek before scurrying out the room and leaving Wyll alone to grapple with what had just happened in stunned silence.

Stupid Mugm for using such dirty tricks while they were supposed to have a serious conversation.

Wyll wished he could say that he was able to fall asleep after the kiss, but he had spent the entire night tossing and turning in bed trying to get his mind off of everything. He didn’t want to think about the kiss or Mugm’s antics, he didn’t even want to think of Mugm.

He just doesn’t understand why Mugm did that, why he has done any of this. It just doesn’t make sense.

The morning after when he finally deemed it late enough to leave his room he felt like he was hit by a truck, he probably looked like it too. His only saving grace being how Mugm also seemed beyond tired, though he would have liked to actually see it rather than just knowing it was there, while the guy continued to grin and taunt him like it had done the night before.

“Slept well princess?" Wyll really couldn’t wait to wipe off that grin.

“You’re not looking too well either. Trouble being all by yourself?” Things were fine, he was fine. They’re back to their bickering like always, he could do this no problem, no problem at all .

He got a small grunt and an eyeroll from the voidling, probably thinking of another comeback. The morning felt weirdly normal for everything that had happened last night, except he had more questions than what he started with and he had spent the last couple of hours rethinking his entire relationship with Mugm.

And just like that the pit in his stomach and nausea that always haunted him came back. Why must the universe make it impossible for him to keep his calm? He really didn’t want to deal with any of this and he wanted to be able to keep his food down for today instead of constantly wanting to throw up.

Wyll had to get out of there, he needed to end this conversation as soon as possible before he did something he’ll regret later. “Anyways, as lovely as this conversation has been, I'm meeting with Pro, so I’ll be back later.” He can do this, he can be calm while Mugm’s still here before he can book it.

He can hear Mugm muttering as he’s getting ready to leave, though isn’t too concerned since it will follow him soon after anyway. Just as he was about to turn around and walk out the door he saw Mugm gave him a nod in acknowledgment. “Enjoy.”

Enjoy? Was that all Mugm had to say to him, nothing else? Wyll stood there for a second as the words registered in his head and there’s the distinct lack of sound of the voidling not moving.

was Mugm not coming with?

Why wasn’t he coming, did Wyll do something— was it last night? He didn’t have time for this, he had to leave and he needed to meet up with Pro and talk about something he couldn’t be bothered to remember at the moment. Maybe he should skip breakfast this one time to save himself from throwing up later.

Wyll left their base as calmly as possible— which was so far from the calm and collected exit hoped for, he practically speed walked out of there before throwing his elytra on and flying away.

Meeting up with Pro had both its positives and negatives, firstly he would be away from Mugm, however that also meant he had most of the day to think about the last couple of days and he really doubted he would get his mind off of things— going out to grind gear is like asking for the opposite to happen with how much of a mindless task it is.

Wyll was definitely going to overthink this.

The flight to spawn was nice enough, the wind definitely felt good and it would have been a perfect trip if he still wasn’t nauseous, but that’s besides the point. Pro talked about a bunch of stuff Wyll really couldn’t care less about at the moment even if he’ll regret not listening later on.

”—And gaps is the last thing we need, so we’ll probably spend the rest of the day working on this, sounds good?” He had no idea what pro said, but couldn’t help but nod along in agreement. ”yeah, yeah, sounds good. What do you want me to get?” Following Pro’s advice has never failed him before, so all he could do was hope that stays true.

”So if you can get the gold, webs and totems we’ll need then I’ll deal with the villagers and the trail chamber.” That’s good, Wyll can totally take on three different mind numbing tasks at once, totally. ”Also, did something happen between you and Mugm?”

What?

”Ummm, no not really why?” Was it really that noticeable, sure Pro was more intuitive than most, but could someone really tell so quickly that something may or may not have happened? Would the others notice it too?

”Nothing particularly, it’s just the first time I’ve seen you without Mugm around in a while.” Dear god, it was that noticeable. Fuck Pro, fuck Mugm and fuck his entire life, he is not dealing with this bullshit.

”you two have been on each other for quite the time, but if you two are done with that maybe we’ll get some productivity back.” Wyll was gonna kill the next person he sees, hopefully they’re associated with a giant question mark… wait, get productivity back?

”What are you on about? I have been productive, don’t blame this shit on me.”

Pro gave him what Wyll can only describe as the most blank face to have ever existed. “Sure, you could’ve just said you’re having a couple’s quarrel at the moment.”

Seriously, what is wrong with this guy? Forget Mugm, this is the first guy he’ll go after.

“Didn’t I just say nothing happened?!” He huffed, if he knew this was how things would have gone he would’ve just stayed at his base.

“Sure, but don’t you find it weird that the moment Mugm’s not around you get in this… mood.”

“Not in a mood” He was definitely in a mood, but he’d rather die than actually admit it, besides his mood has nothing to do with him and Mugm. It was pure coincidence it happened at the same time.

“Sure… you good to get the materials?” At this point Pro just sounded tired, like they had been arguing for hours and not just talking for a couple of minutes. ”Yeah, yeah. I’m good.” And with that he once again flew off in the air.

Without thinking about it he sent a small message to Mugm telling him his cords in case it intended to join him, before he realized what he did and quickly deleted the message as fast as he could. Sadly Mugm had seen it and sent him a small gif before his icon went offline again.

So Mugm really had no plans of joining him today, what was Wyll meant to do now?

Grinding the gear LE needed was just as much of a mindless task as he originally thought, except for the fact that it had taken twice as long as it usually took since he constantly checked his communicator in case Mugm sent him another message.

Though him stopping to think about Mugm didn’t necessarily help either. The way Mugm was so completely kissing his cheek like he’d done it a million times before, the way Mugm’s body fit so well on top of his and how his own body reacted so in tune with Mugm’s.

He refuses to believe this was the first time anything like that has ever happened between the two.

His meetup with Pro was just as uneventful, just the two of them distributing their items into the shulker’s and then double checking that they wouldn’t need anything else in the near future. Which meant he had to go back to his base, where Mugm is— where he should be.

He better not have ditched Wyll to go out and do his own little thing with others.

The trip back to base he was bored out of his mind, okay no that was a lie. He had to slow down a couple of times because the urge to just throw up or just straight up not wanting to go back was a bit too strong. So he had taken himself a nice little flight around Spawn hoping to find someone and maybe jump them to get his mind off things.

Sadly that didn’t happen so the actual flight back was just him overthinking his relationship with Mugm and his seemingly desire to not be around Wyll.

The base was relatively quiet when he entered. ”I’m back! Mugm? Hello?” Not a single sound or light in sight, a completely empty base. ”Guess he’s not here.”

At least he didn’t have to deal with Mugm at the moment, gave him more time to think about things… like he hasn’t thought about this the entire night and day, but the thought of him reaching out to the voidling first made his skin crawl.

There was absolutely no way he would be the one to do so, the amount of teasing and being labeled desperate for the rest of eternity by Mugm.

Maybe he could catch up on some sleep, take an early night, maybe even catch Mugm again if he dared to enter his room. Sleep sounded nice after this shitshow of a day.

As he opened the door to his room ready to jump on the bed he noticed the missing voidling resting on top of it. How long had it waited on him in his bedroom? Did it take a nap, was that the reason it didn’t follow him was because it was tired.

He could’ve at least said he was going to laze around the entire day or answered Wyll when he came back instead of waiting here like some creep. “You’re back…” Rude bitch, it didn’t have to sound so disappointed.

“You’re in the way, bunny.” Surely that wasn’t weird, he’s always said bunny to his friends. Wyll prayed to whatever god that might listen that Mugm wouldn’t make this weird. He’ll die if he has to change his vocabulary because of this.

Luckily the gods seemed to be on his side today as Mugm gave a noncommittal hum in agreement before stretching out on Wyll’s bed, practically laying down on it.

“Sure, have you gotten over it yet?” This absolute asshole. “Get over what? If anything I should be the one wondering if you’re the one who’s gotten over whatever you’ve been doing.”

Mugm let out a tired sigh, stretching further onto the bed, probably trying to find the perfect resting spot. “You like it.” He sounded too smug for Wyll’s liking so of course he had to snap back. “Keep telling yourself that, does it help you sleep at night?”

“Pro texted me earlier.” And he’s back to ignoring Wyll.

“Yeah? What did he want?” Yup, Pro is gone the next time he decides to fight someone. “Mhm, said you were in a shitty mood. It’s okay, you can say you missed me.”

That’s not gonna happen in a million years, Mugm’s way too pleased about this, someone has to take him down a peg and Wyll was not going to ignore this opportunity given to him on a silver platter.

“In your dreams, you wish I missed you. If anything you are the one missing me, if not you wouldn’t be in my bed.” Take that you asshole.

While he talked he ushered slowly closer to the bed before lifting the voidling up and throwing it further down the bed before practically collapsing onto it himself.

“You wi- Bitch! What was that for?!” Mugm curled up at the end of the bed with wide eyes looking ready to jump up was a good look on him, if only Wyll could see it more often. “You were in the way.”

He could see the way the gears turned in Mugm’s head, almost making him want to do this more often, but he’s not that mean. Who is he trying to kid, he is that mean. “Didn’t have to throw me, makes you look more guilty.”

Suddenly Mugm was on top of him again in a position far too familiar. “Pro said you were bitchy out there.” What a liar.

“No he did not.” Mugm gave another noncommittal hum with a little shrug before speaking again. “Close enough, I know that’s what he meant, so what happened?”

“What’s happening with you tonight? And the last couple of weeks too while we’re at it.” He could hear the voidling grumble as he laid down on top of Wyll.

“Nothing happening.” For someone so good at lying Mugm was comically bad at this. “Then you have your answer, nothing happened.”

Wyll let out an amusement huff at back and forth banter before throwing the exact same thing back at it. “You sure? You can say you missed me, I won’t judge… much.” Why couldn’t things just be simple like this, why complicate things.

“I mean it though, what’s going on with you?” He could feel Mugm tense as he kept talking and actually trying to figure things out between them. “You’re just so stupid sometimes.”

“Bitch?! I’m trying to be nice and the first thing you do is insult me. See if I’ll ever do something like this again.” Wyll could feel Mugm giggling against his chest more than he could hear it, but that was okay. If the voidling’s laughing then hopefully the issue wasn’t too serious.

“I’m being serious, I’m honestly surprised you’ve survived this long.”

“Hey! What have I done?! Nothing, I haven’t done shit for you to be this rude to me bunny.” Mugm gave him what he can only presume is an eyeroll before continuing.

“You’re way too careless, idiotic, reckless… I could spend hours talking about how you’re lucky I stay with you so nothing happens idiot, and stop calling me ‘bunny’ you asshole.”

Well someone feels all high and mighty.

“You wish, you’re not slick bunny, you like it.” He responded with a grin.

A huff could be heard before a muffled “As if” and then Wyll could feel lips against his neck, not kissing just resting against him.

“So I’m good now? Have I matured enough for you to not have to smother me anymore?”

“What? No, you’re still as hopeless as the day I first met you” came in an amused tone.

“So what’s with you refusing to be near me the entire day.” The question came out a bit more somber than Wyll would have liked, but he was too deep in now to turn back.

“So it did bother you! I was right.”

“Yeah, yeah. It bothered me a bit, now tell me bunny, what’s up with you” He might as well admit it, it’s not like Mugm didn’t know and if they kept talking they’d never reach any conclusion.

“No, no, no… we’re not skipping over this so spill it Wyll.”

“Well, I’ve gotten used to it I guess— you I mean. You’re always around so it was a bit… weird? Don’t know if that’s what I should call it, but it was unusual.”

“So you’re saying you like me?” Mugm’s response came with a smug smile and a teasing tone against Wyll’s neck.

“When did I ever say that? Now you’re really beginning to imagine things bunny.”

“No, no, no, I know what you meant Wyll. No need to be embarrassed, you can be honest with me about your fee—”

Without letting Mugm finish its sentence, Wyll grabbed onto its waist before switching their positions so that the voidling was laying underneath him.

“With how much you’re thinking about this I would say you’re the one who likes me, besides I’m not the one who kissed you.”

As he was talking he could feel Mugm wiggling and lightly hitting beneath him. Mugm was the stronger one of the two, so if he really wanted to free itself he could.

He likes it, that freak.

“Does the dark particle have a crush on little old me?” Wyll couldn’t help but tease, if any of it was true than Mugm would never live this down.

“Hah, in your dreams, if anything I was simply looking out for you as a good teammate should.”

Not even the most trusting and weak players would fall for such a weak lie.

“So why did you continue with your little stalking thing you’ve got going on during Lifesteal World? Last time I checked we weren’t exactly teamed together.”

“That’s because you left me bro?! And I didn’t stalk you.” With that Mugm switched them back to their original position.

“No, it was a mutual decision and you needed to get out and meet new people. It’s good for you.”

“No the hell it wasn’t?! You said you had a team and practically left me for dead. I’m lucky nothing bad happened to me, think of all the gruesome ways I could’ve died. Wasn't my five deaths enough for you? Do you really want to see me suffer that much?”

What a drama queen, if it was such a poor unfortunate soul then what was the rest of them? Living abominations?

“You did good, but now you’re just being dramatic and dragging it out for no reason, besides you didn’t say no to my statement.”

“Say no to what?” Came as a confused response as the voidling once again made himself comfortable on top of Wyll.

“No, no, don’t start deflecting now, I’m flattered you feel so highly about me. I-”

Wyll was promptly silenced by Mugm slapping a hand over his mouth and a hard knee hitting the side of his stomach.

“I don’t. The only reason I’m around is because you’re an idiot and our shared goal of gem breaking everyone.” While his words may be harsh, but it looked far too pleased with itself to actually mean any of what it said, so Wyll didn’t feel too bad by pushing it further.

“What happened to us being equals? Does our time spent together mean nothing to you bunny? You know, you don’t have to hide anything from me, you can be honest about how you feel.”

“I take it back, I hate you and you suck.”

If anything though Mugm rested his head back against his shoulder, if the guy could purr he probably would’ve. Arms snaked themselves around him and Wyll could feel the voidlings breath ghosting his neck just like it had tonight before he felt soft kisses?

Could they even be counted as kisses? The contact was barely there, fleeting presses of the voidlings lips that disappeared just as quick as they came. Wyll could hear himself let out a pleased sigh as he instinctively tilted his head to give Mugm more room to work with.

“So you’re not going to talk about it?”

“What’s there to talk about?”

At this point he has to be playing stupid with Wyll, there’s no way it genuinely believes there’s nothing to talk about.

“Besides it’s not like you’re talking about it either, you’ve deflected more than me.”

Like, okay bro. What is this guy’s problem with Wyll, he’s been trying to talk about it since tonight. ‘Not talking about it’, that’s some stupid bullshit.

“So since there’s nothing going on, I'm going to take my leave for the night.” It finished its sentence by biting into his collarbone before licking and kissing it to soothe the ache.

“It’s not even night, dumb bunny.”

Most of Mugm’s weight disappeared as it shifted their positions and sat up once again on top of Wyll’s chest. It had a smug smile plastered onto its face, staring down at him like every other time he’s thinking about something that will make Wyll’s life a living hell.

“Enjoy your late evening then, rest well you seem tired. ”

With that the voidling threw its legs over the edge of Wyll’s bed and made his way towards the door. Not before giving Wyll a coy smile and a little wink before it scurried out and closed the door behind him leaving Wyll in his lonesome all over again.

Why did Mugm have to do this? Why did it have to be so infuriating? Letting Wyll be shouldn’t be that hard of a task, but noo. Now Wyll’s probably stuck having to spend another night awake because of the stupid bunny.

Unless he cornered Mugm at its own room…

Fuck it, how bad can it go?
