Chapter Text
*We barely think about the consequences of rapidly changing without thinking about the people we found out the hard way.
It was an ordinary day for Peter Parker: going to class, getting bullied, and looking at his crush dreamily. But today would be the day Peter would never heal from.
Peter was in class when a warning alarm sounded across the school. Everyone was panicking when a robot-like monster rampaged through the school. Peter was running out of school with his crush, Mary Jane, only to see that New York was overrun by the same monsters.
Peter, caring for his crush, told her, "I need to check up on Aunty May and Uncle Ben, MJ. You need to go to Anna's place," but MJ said to Peter desperately, "I'm not leaving you alone, Peter." Peter replied, "MJ, you have family back in your home. I think a loser like me will only slow you down. I'll be okay, I promise," reassuring her as Peter left her as she screamed his name.Peter was running into the chaos while avoiding the monsters, and when he finally reached his apartment to see the ruined house and the dead bodies of Uncle Ben and Aunt May, Peter was devastated to see his only family left dead. When Peter got close to his dead relatives, he saw Uncle Ben holding a briefcase, not knowing what was in it. Peter took it and started wandering, avoiding monsters while trying to find MJ.
It's been 3 years with no survivors to be seen. Peter began to think he was the only one left in the world. The thing left with him was the briefcase that Uncle Ben had when he died. Peter didn't have the time to open the briefcase because he was focused on trying to find food and water. There was not much water safe for consumption and, to add to all that, there were monsters everywhere, and if they found him, they started chasing him when they spotted him.Peter was tired and hungry. He had not eaten or slept for a few days. He was on the brink of collapsing. His last thought was the promise he made to MJ, then he fainted in the middle of nowhere. That's when someone with long red hair in a ponytail found him and took him to a secret location.
When Peter woke up, he found himself in a bed with someone holding his hand. Peter felt he knew her from somewhere. When she realized he was awake, she slapped him in the face and shouted, "You idiot!" Then she cried, "Do you have any idea how worried I was?" Tears ran down her face.
Peter was shocked that a beautiful woman hugged him. She cried for a few minutes before breaking the hug. Peter asked who she was, and the mysterious woman replied, "It's me, Peter and Mary Jane Watson. We used to be neighbours." It finally clicked for Peter as he now recognized her.
"MJ?" Peter looked at her. She was doing well for herself, and then he asked her, "Where are we?" Instead of replying, MJ showed Peter the place that was filled with people; most of them were suffering from injuries, and their morale seemed to be down. As MJ explained as she gave a tour of the bunker, "This is the resistance base of operations to take back the world from the Glyphoids." Peter said in a curious tone. "Glyphoids? You mean Glyphs, like the things that advanced the world's technology and a cheat code for reality? Those monsters were made out of them?"
MJ looked at him with a sombre tone and said, "Yes, someone or something summoned these things to the world. We are still investigating how it happened, but we don't have much workforce, and we don't have any weapons to fight back glyphoids." She then asked about the briefcase. Peter replied that he didn't know because he didn't have the time to open it; he was busy trying to survive.
After the tour, MJ left Peter alone to make him adjust to the place. Peter finally opened the briefcase to see research notes about Biometals and the Meta-Encapsulated Granule Awareness System, or MEGA System, along with making cybernetic limbs. Peter had this strange urge to complete both projects. It seemed that his parents couldn't make a working prototype. Peter was interested. He went to the junk room to find materials for this project.
Peter mixed the metals listed on the notes, then hammered away until a detailed blue hexagon with a red crystal in the middle. That was what looked to be eyes. But Peter felt that something was missing for it to work. He put the shelved Biometals aside for now and worked on the MEGA System. He pulled an old computer from the junk room and managed to repair it, then typed away, but the system crashed every time he tried to finish the code.
After some time trying to get both the Biometals and MEGA Systems to work, Peter decided that he needed a break. Peter met up with MJ to catch up. After all these years, they were apart. They laughed at old memories, then MJ explained how she got into the resistance: "Shortly after you left me, I've been trying to find Aunt Anna. I found her with someone named Nick Furry. He told my aunt that she needed her for some reason, but she wouldn't go unless I got to go with her, so that's how I became one of the resistance. So what happened to you for the three years?"Peter explained how he survived that wasteland by severely rationing food and water, and the fact that he had not eaten or slept for a few days before fainting. MJ said that she was lucky that she had found him; otherwise the others wouldn't have been so kind. After the talk, they both left in high spirits, knowing they had each other. Peter then asked about the situation at the base, and MJ replied almost instantly, saying that food and equipment supplies were running low, and they couldn't send more people to the surface because most of the scavengers were in the medical area.
Peter returned to his room to finally rest in a proper bed. He fell asleep. The Biometals was downloading data on his computer. It was the MEGA System. After downloading, it moved to scan Peter's data, then it processed to encode the information, then went into a rest state as a brand-new day approached.
